TOO LOUD A SOLITUDE THE DISSOLUTION OF THE COMMON GROUND A STUDY IN DRAWINGS London Thesis MArch/ 16 UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED ARTS VIENNA
Housing, the Development & the Future
The Earls Court Development, west London, signals the end of the 120 year old Earls Court Exhibition Centre. The proposal is set in the current model of London developments, seeming to focuses on a rigid relationship between housing and retail. The loss of the event holds a greater impact on the community, losing one of is sole attractors and impactors on the temporal shifts in daily routine. There is a fear of asset housing and potential ghost communities, with high-street retail pressing against the street leaving little to no porosity opportunity for internal growth. Instead a proposals could look to collide the inflated influence of the Premier League has on London’s stadium growth to affect and be effected by large scale developments, increased too by localities connected infrastructure improvements. An approach of the English garden and the trodden path.
Footprint Composition BLUR AND THE FROZEN MOMENT Using drawings to question the permanency of the developers line. A continued study in drawings potential influence to the 3 dimensional space. Both an excavation of site and the building of new, through the abstraction of drawing composition. A re-interpretation within the composition to define sets and subsets, layered and pixeled within the whole.
