Which mix of foods best describes your average meal? 5+ courses, meat, veggies, dessert, brandy, cigar Beef, chicken, or fish, veggies, fruits, coffee or tea Meat or fish, local or organic veggies, fruits, coffee or tea Local produced fruits, vegetables, & beverages Local sustainabley harvested organic fruits, veggeis, & beverges

Do you conserve, recycle, and reuse resources such as paper, metal, plastics? Never Occasionally Most of the time Yes, diligently all the time

Red Hook How will we design for a world that is becoming smaller due to troubling climactic events and an increase in population density? The major troubles that humans face are attacks (many self imposed) to our envrironment - our water, air, and soil. Thus, we must develop systems of design that are empathetic and concious of the dectructions that we face.

RED HOOK RESIDENT 1 “The hallways are dark. The building is dark. The whole project is dark. It’s like a war zone out here... It’s bad out here.”

SAMORA COLES

“The people are out without food, water, lights and a lot of the basic needs. The Red Hook Initiative has collaborated with a group of volunteers to donate and to give food, clothing, and fresh water.”

RED HOOK RESIDENT 2 “We don’t have ConEd out here. We don’t have none of that services out here. They’re not even coming.”

“Occupy Sandy sent out the word that we needed food. We’re hearing from people just how dark it is at night. And now it’s starting to get cold.”

AMELIA

“This is the Red Hook Initiative, so this is always open, doing community involvement. We’ve had hot lunch. We have snacks all day. And then we’re going to serve hot dinner.”

MONICA BYRNE

SELWYN CRICHLOW “It’s just like man against Mother Nature. And Mother Nature won. I would not wish a storm like this on my worst enemy.”

“Most of Red Hookers were staying put. In about 15 minutes, the water went from the coast to our front stoop and up about a foot.” It was just slowly crawling at a rapid speed. slowly, but slow-fast, kind of... It wasn’t like a tidal wave.”

CORBIN LAEDLEIN “All the crops were covered with water from the harbor. Many people argue that local farms are the solution. We need to localize production to reduce our carbon footprint.”

Volumetric study of how flooded buildings will be transformed into ecological mounds.

As flooded buildings become rubble, ecological sites slowly take back the land.
