1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? The main skills I have developed throughout this module are broadly, the business and professional skills required to set up a small creative company/agency. These skills are mainly research based and relied on finding out a number of things about business, both from the collaborative element of the module but also through personal findings. I also feel through this module I have improved a little in my ability to work in a team of creatives, being organised enough to be on time and do the work that was needed of me, as well as being able to communicate my ideas more effectively to group members. The module has provided me with invaluable knowledge regarding the workings of a business in the current economy right down to the smallest detail and will inevitably help if I始m ever to set up a business.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? As mentioned in the previous question, this module was very significantly research based and it始s given me a much more informed insight into the importance of research in every aspect of design. From my own design practice, to setting up a business and finding out what else is out there. It has also provided me with a lot more motivation in terms of research into my practice as it has showed just how possible such a business venture would be, something I had never even considered before this module. I始m really enjoying the process of researching studios I have an interest in as I can see more clearly how it may be able to affect my future. I found that working collaboratively is also something I始m very interested in as it provides much more creative potential with people bringing a number of ideas to the table. It is also a really useful setup in terms of getting feedback and improving as a designer yourself. Being around people with the same motivation and aspirations can only ever be beneficial.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? The strengths that I can pick out within my work from this module are still very much based in design, however as previously mentioned it came very much down to being in a group of like-minded individuals, with opportunity for feedback and continuous improvement on what was already there. Working with type and layout remains something I feel I始m stronger in than the rest of my practice and I hope to continue to develop in this area. I was also very pleased with my input towards the start of the module when we were tasked to come up with a company name and a number of statements that described us. This could be described as idea generation or concept building and I feel that these areas are usually my weakest. However I made contributions towards the company name as well as the statements about the business and managed to surprise myself in the process. I made use of my minimal amounts of photography skills as well as proofing and copywriting throughout the module and I could probably count these as strengths as they are definitely something that is a part of my practice and I hope for it to stay that way. The day that I notice a spelling mistake within a piece of my design work and accept it will be the same day I give up.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? Weaknesses that I can identify within my work, as ever mainly come down to time management and organisation of myself, and the project as a whole. I found it more than often took a back seat when I had other briefs to be getting on with and instead of using free time to get on with this module I spent a lot of it procrastinating. Although this module was very much research and idea focused, with their being very little actual product, I believe these remain weaknesses in my practice. Idea generation often comes down to not being able to get my head into the process of coming up with ideas, and finding logical links and making connections between various trains of thought. Research is a weakness for fairly similar reasons. If I get my head into it and find a logical path I can research for as long as I need to. However I often find that I do not make these links and end up going round in circles or being unmotivated because of it.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

Use daily to do lists to manage my time and action plans to organise and motivate myself throughout the module. Avoid procrastination by taking time out in different ways, e.g. Focus on something that I am getting on with well or some self initiated work that could feed into my practice both in terms of work and added motivation. Put more time aside for research as it will allow me to get my head into it, and if not will give me more of a chance to sort out any problems I am having with the process. Keep up to date with blogging, making it a continuous part of my practice, as this will allow me to reflect upon the work I始ve been producing more effectively and ultimately provide me with a little leeway towards the end of the module. Take more of a forward role in the group and try to be more confident, I think not having done this may have meant I did less work than I should have.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an 驶x始) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1

Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitment x Quantity of work produced x Quality of work produced x Contribution to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
