The Modern Doll is a direct response to the power imbalance society holds in correlation with the expression of masculinity versus femininity This design exploration extracts the powerful feelings that garner large quantities of our confidence, but are sometimes not fully released with the fear of societies apprehension. The doll can be seen as an object representative of confidence, but when we embody characteristics of a doll, society often views the representation of full self/body-confidence as over-sexual, self-centered, or “too feminine”. With this collection I have studied ways to implement femininity, sexuality, and confidence into structural clothing with the use of couture sewing techniques and sewing notions, retaliating against societies norms with six looks that embody a new age of clothing that unleashes the power within the wearer, meet the Modern Doll.
