Tribute paid to Alec Chislhom 'a true Anglia Group legend'

It is with great regret that the Anglia Group report the death of Alec Chislhom, aged 90 years. For those of you fortunate enough to have encountered Alec, you may or may not know that Alec was perhaps the driving force behind the resurrection of the Anglia Group. After two false starts, Anglia became a force in the annals of the MCC, led by Alec and his late wife Mary's drive and enthusiasm, with the help and backing of other notable members.

He served as Group Chairman on two separate occasions and in 1998 became our Honorary President, a role he was greatly proud of. Who can forget his wonderful motorhome, a stand out Cotswold on a Mercedes base. A big van Alec and Mary cherished and in which they spent many winters in Mojácar, Spain. He always returned from those Spanish jaunts ready to help the group, including as Chairman.

He led the Anglia Group in 1995 when the Club AGM was held at Norwich Showground for the fi rst time, when we celebrated with what was probably the fi rst themed National, the 50th anniversary celebration of VE Day.

After the loss of his wife

Alec gradually withdrew from the scene and eventually sold his beloved motorhome. He did however maintain his interest in the group and its activities and members.

He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his two sons and family at this time of great sadness.
