buyers with a superior level of service. We chat with Tristan about the new space, the state of the local property market and balancing the work/home relationship with Samantha.
Why did you decide to open an office at Aspley? It just made sense. Aspley has to be one of the most under-serviced areas in Brisbane, yet we have the perfect mix of entry level homes right up to $5m plus acreage properties in Bridgeman Downs. Brisbane’s north has really come of age in the last 5 years and we believe we are the first agency to treat it like a grown up region, not just another string of suburbs. The new office feels more like an upmarket new home. Tell us about the idea behind it. Like the flagship office at Bulimba, the new Aspley space has been styled by Coco Republic to create an upmarket “homely” feel that is the perfect fusion of being not only inviting, but also practical. With a fully functional kitchen and dining room,
we can host client nights or charity fundraisers. Plus the extra buyers we attract really is the payoff for going that extra mile. You and Samantha are a great team. But more than business partners, you’re also life partners. Who tackles what at work? Samantha and I actually met through Place. Samantha was the head of department for Place Graceville’s rentals and I was working as a salesperson. We are lucky because we had a professional respect before we had a personal respect so the husband/wife line never gets blurred at work. Samantha heads up the property management and administration side of our business and I look after sales and the sales team. Her knowledge of sales support is second to none.
And how do you and Samantha balance the work/home relationship? To be honest it’s a lot better now we work together. When we worked separately, we would often spend hours at night comparing our days and asking each other advice. Now we just say, “yep, I was there”. What’s happening in your local property market. We have seen a huge shift in demand with Sydney and Victorian buyers becoming more than 50% of our investor sales in the last 18 months. They see our areas (particularly Aspley, Geebung, Wavell Heights, Boondall and Taigum) as very good value thanks to the difference in Sydney vs Brisbane house prices. What plans do you have for the Aspley office? We opened this office with a clear goal – to be the flagship office for Place in the north whilst delivering the award winning customer service which has lead to us being recognised with both Place and REIQ awards. Your sales record speaks for itself, but do you have any hidden talents? I used to chef in my younger years. I love to cook. In fact, whenever I sell a home for a client with a specific cultural background I challenge them - they have to teach me how to make a certain dish if I achieve a certain price. I have been taught many amazing dishes over the years and I’m looking forward to cooking for my clients in our new reception kitchen. As a matter of fact, one of my Italian clients has already challenged me to a cook off!
