AWARDS

Orchestra “Spirit” Award – This award is presented to those students that show an exemplary amount of drive and overall commitment in class, while also maintaining a positive attitude and sense of humor each day. These students contribute to the collective group personality in a big way. Their absence is felt immediately on days that they are not in class!

“Directors” Award – Recipients of this award are class leaders who are always willing to lend a helping hand with daily activities like tuning, play testing, setting stands or chairs, etc. These students are always present at dress rehearsals and sectionals, and I can always count on them for extra help wherever they are needed. These students lead each day by example!

Most Improved Award – Students presented with this award have shown vast improvement over the course of the year. It is apparent that they have “stepped up ” their practicing, and are now leading others in their section with how they perform each day!

Katie has been in strings for 8 years. She played in the concert orchestra her freshman year and with symphonic strings for the past 3 years. Her favorite thing to do is to look back on strings, and think about how things were 5th grade (when she started)! She will be attending Ohio University in the fall, and plans to study Aviation to (hopefully) work toward becoming a commercial pilot!

Caiden Wood was 9 years old when he listened to the Plain Local strings perform at his elementary school. He knew immediately that he wanted to play the cello even though it was much bigger than he was at the time! Now grown, Caiden is making plans to join the Air Force branch of the United States Military upon graduation. His family feels so blessed to have seen him grow not only as a musician but as a young man. Congratulations Seniors!

Additionally, during his senior year here at GOHS John was selected to perform at The Ohio State Jazz Festival. In the fall John will be attending Kent State University to study music education and he hopes to have as much of an impact on future students as Mr Nauss has had on him.
