ENRICHMENT AND LEARNING OFFERINGS YMCA Summer Camp at GlenOak:
Plain Local Schools is proud to partner with the YMCA of Central Stark County which will provide our students the opportunity to attend Summer Day Camp closer to home. The camp will take place from June 1 - August 10 from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Before and aftercare will be available from 6:30 am - 9:00 am and 4:00 - 6:00 pm. The summer camp is designed for students entering grades 1 through 8 and will take place at GlenOak High School. The YMCA programming is focused on getting kids disconnected from technology and reconnected with laughter, fun, and being outdoors. A special feature of this camp allows Plain Local students the opportunity to attend Plain Local summer academic, enrichment, or sports programming in addition to participating in the YMCA summer camp all in the same day on our GOHS community campus. Campers will be offered breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack at no additional charge. Registration is limited. Go to ymcastark.org/summer for enrollment details.
Summer School Before and After Care Program: The YMCA will be offering before and aftercare programming from 6:30 am – 6:00 pm at GlenOak High School. Please contact the YMCA at plchildcare@ymcastark.org for details.
Think Like an Engineer:
This summer learning camp is designed to help students develop their math and reading skills while engaging in exciting engineering activities. Students will collaborate in daily critical thinking activities and participate in a family STEM night. Jumpstart to Kindergarten:

Coding & Gaming Camp:
Coding and Gaming Camp combines computer coding skills with Esports Gaming. Block-based coding utilizes a drag-and-drop learning environment, where students use coding instruction “blocks” to construct animated stories and games. This camp provides both entry-level and intermediate-level activities, where kids can gain a foundation in computational thinking and Esports strategies in a team-based approach. First Tee Literacy and Golf Camp:
Interested in learning golf? Enjoy reading? If you answered yes then First Tee Camp is for you. Plain Local has partnered with The First Tee organization and GlenOak’s Varsity Golf Team to combine literacy and golf skills into one camp. This camp is for students entering grades 3-6. First Tee combines literacy activities, golfing skills, and character building to create an engaging, interactive camp that focuses on the mind and body. This summer camp focuses on promoting female empowerment by teaching life skills through lessons and running. Female students in this camp will be physically and mentally active by building both running and personal goals. Sports Medicine Camp:
Sports Medicine Camp will provide a hands-on practical overview of athletic training and sports medicine: Including but not limited to injury prevention, treatment, and emergency injury management. Students will leave with a certification in First Aid and CPR from the American Red Cross. Artsplorations with TomTod:
Explore innovation, imagination, and creative problem solving through the arts! Campers will be empowered to engage the arts through creating in a variety of artistic mediums, meeting with local artists and community leaders. Throughout the camp, students will have opportunities to both express themselves creatively and mold the artistic future of the greater Canton community.
Stark State College Experience Camp:
Plain Local is proud to announce a collaboration with Stark State College to bring to students a comprehensive college experience. Students will interact with college professors and experience many educational opportunities and activities on the Stark State Campus including Engineering, Business, Industrial Technology, and STEM. In collaboration with Plain Township and Stark Parks students will engage in a variety of adventurous and outdoor activities that will have students moving and participating in structured team building activities. Students will work in teams as they rotate through a variety of outdoor sports and group games. Musical Theater Camp puts YOU on stage. Performers of all levels are welcome to explore singing, acting, and dancing. All you need is a little curiosity and a love of performing. Students in musical theater camp present a final performance showcasing the skills learned throughout the week. This program is led by Amy Sima-Dirham, GOHS Theater Arts Director as well as GOHS Theater students. ACADEMIC CREDIT ADVANCEMENT OFFERINGS Online Health for High School Credit:
Oakwood Middle School students entering the 8th grade are able to get a jump start on their high school credit through this summer online course. Online Physical Education:
In this Personal Fitness course, students are required to participate in weekly cardiovascular, flexibility, and strength and endurance activities. Students who are unable to participate in such physical exercises will be unable to complete the requirements of this course.
GlenOak Credit Recovery:
There are many reasons why students get behind in their high school journey. Plain Local Schools offers a way for high school students to get back on track toward graduation by recovering credits from failed classes. These courses are offered at GlenOak High School. Only students who have previously failed the course during the regular school year may enroll.
