JUTE & JUCO JUTE fabric is eco-friendly and completely biodegradable. It grows faster than cotton allowing for faster harvest times and does not require pesticides or fertilisers. It is therefore 100% organic. Jute is also grown on land that is not otherwise suitable for food crops, and does not need any additional irrigation. Thus, we view jute as having the lightest possible environmental footprint of all bag fabrics. Bags made of jute are incredibly hard wearing and long lasting.
They hold their shape, making them easy to pack full of groceries and with good graphic design, jute bags can also be really, really beautiful. Planet Eco Bags are always made using 15x14 grade jute – this has a good, tight weave, which is why our jute bags look better and last longer than other brands. When printing onto jute bags, bear in mind that it does have a rough surface texture – so “bold is best” – we recommend a minimum 3.5mm stroke size for perfect reproduction. This is particularly relevant when we are printing pale colours, as these require a thicker ink mixture than darker colours. JUCO fabric is a blend of jute and cotton fibres. It has all the benefits of jute, with a much finer surface texture which allows finer print. The smoother surface also makes it a better choice for bags which may be in contact with dark coloured business suits! Juco is more costly than Jute, but is a fabulous choice if budget allows.

COTTON NATURAL COTTON – also known as CALICO in natural unbleached format – is the faithful old labrador of the branded bag industry. Economical, strong, reliable and easy to manage.
ALL Planet Cotton bags are made in socially compliant, ETI approved factories.
Many cotton bags are made in a low grade 140gsm unbleached cotton – some are even as thin as 110gsm. Whilst the low grade fabric may look OK at first, it will shrink & distort when washed and if printed with more than one colour, the ink may seep through the fabric and stick the bag together.
We wish we could say the same for some of the 'other' cotton bags in the market.
We often ask ourselves “why would someone print THEIR BRAND on such a low grade bag?" ALL Planet Cotton bags are made in high grade 150gsm cotton. Inside seams are fully overlocked to prevent fraying and the handles are a good, comfortable 30mm wide (some cheap bags have handles as narrow as 20mm – little wonder they don't get used...) 16

When cotton threads are woven more tightly to give a denser fabric, it is then called CANVAS – most commonly made in 275gsm fabric weight (also called 10oz canvas). Whatever fabric weight is used, the handles should ALWAYS be attached to the top of the bag using a X stitch – if they are not X stitched , the handle will tear away from the top seam. So...choose your cotton bag carefully to make sure that what you get creates a genuinely positive outcome – not only for your brand, but also for the broader community and the environment.

POLYESTER Lightweight polyester is very durable, very strong and can be easily dyed, screen printed and sublimated. It is not natural or biodegradable, but with good design, one polyester bag can replace literally thousands of single-use plastic bags, which make this fabric one of the best available for the 'eco bag' category. Planet Polyester Bags can be quickly and easily scrunched up into their tiny storage pouch. This means, that, in practice, they ARE repacked and carried in a handbag or a coat
pocket – so are always there, even on an un-planned stop at the shops . Imagine how well your brand is represented when someone can say ”I don't need a plastic bag thanks, I have brought my own” at the checkout! We have 3 main styles – the HoldAll, the CarryAll and the BackPack. These styles are tried, tested and very popular but we are always happy to custom make for different designs.

NON-WOVEN & WOVEN PP FABRICS NWPP stands for non-woven polypropylene. NWPP is quite strong, lightweight, low cost and colourful. It is made from polypropylene beads which are melted and dye is added, then it is spun into something which looks a bit like fairy floss, which is then pressed into rolls. The final rollers have a pattern to create the characteristic texture. Planet NWPP Eco Bags can be made in 80gsm, 90gsm, 100gsm or 120gsm fabric weight. Heavier fabric does cost a little extra but this can be money very well spent, depending on the intended style , size and purpose of the bag. Conversely, some styles are perfectly workable in a lighter weight fabric. The key to success lies in understanding how the fabric and the seam construction can be used effectively to build in maximum strength at minimal cost. NWPP bags are most commonly decorated using spot screen print, digital print & heat transfer . WPP stands for woven polypropylene. WPP is made from 28
individual strands of polypropylene which are WOVEN together to create a fabric which has immense integral strength and is therefore perfect for “workhorse� bags such as Supermarket Shoppers & Recycling Bags. WPP bags can have a high gloss or a matt finish (and they look surprisingly different!) They can be spot screen printed or can carry full colour CMYK / photographic images

The main difference between Planet EcoBags and many other eco bag suppliers is the fact we turn up. Our Product Management COTTON Team visits each and every factory involved in the fabrication of our products. It not just a 'face-time' visit, we turn up (usually unannounced) at the factory door and request to see a current job in production.
The FAIRTRADE Cotton Mark signifies that the cotton in the product is Fairtrade certified
CONSERVATION We're maintaining our industry leadership by taking part in the Fairtrade Program. The Fairtrade focus on providing better standards for people is in line with our company values and the policies we operate within.

Processes and activities shall be monitored and modifed as necessary to ensure conservation of scarce resources, including water, fora and fauna and productive land in certain situations.
