Christoph Krüppel bring to their job. The three ROSE engineers lead a life between saddle and offce chair, while always hunting for the last few percentage points that make a bike even better.

Jürgen Telahr is responsible for the development and technical design of ROSE road bikes and triathlon bikes, as well as for cyclo-cross bikes, trekking and e-bikes. In 2013, he and his team already added the XEON DX – a race-oriented road bike with disc brake – to ROSE’s product range. “As pioneers, we can observe others following us and even the UCI thinks about the introduction. We believe in the advantages of disc brakes, also in road races,” Jürgen Telahr explains.

Christoph Krüppel and Max Sistenich are both responsible for the mountain bike range. The two passionate bikers take charge of everything having studded tyres – whether it’s a hardtail or a full-susser, a 26”, 27,5” or a 29” bike for Cross Country, Marathon, All-Mountain, Enduro or Freeride use. Their experiences are always taken into consideration when developing new models – our engineers know what our customers want.

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH Until a bike is allowed to bear the ROSE logo, it has to go through a lot of stages. Everything starts with an idea. Then drawings follow, computer simulations are produced and the first prototypes are built. An entire fleet of team riders ride on ROSE bikes and their experiences also influence the development of a bike. Elaborate wind tunnel tests help to improve the bikes’ aerodynamics and performance. However, that is not enough, as we leave nothing to chance. In the testing laboratory, we simulate peak loads – each bike has to go through tor-

ture tests for two-wheelers. The additional, strict tests go far beyond legal requirements and always end with a controlled total write-off. That‘s the only way that we can see how robust and safe our bikes are. We want nothing but the truth. This procedure is the ultimate test for our bikes – and a real plus for your safety. Stiffness and material fatigue tests, as well as overload tests belong to our standard. For many years, we have been working together with Dirk Zedler’s engineering and consulting ofﬁce (www.zedler.de) as well as with EFBe Prüftechnik

Radio music warbles through a friendly and bright room and a cheerful clicking, clacking and buzzing of tools twitters through the air. This is the production hall. In the largest part of the hall, almost 65 mechanics are working on bikes standing in front of them at just as many workstations. The experienced hands of a ROSE mechanic assemble your bike to your requirements and dimensions. And the best bit is: Any adjustment and personal setup do not cost you one extra cent. Only higher value components entail extra costs. Each bike is unique, just how you want it – this is ROSE’s custom-made idea. In the end, you’ll only have to take the bike out of the carton box, straighten the handlebar, adjust the saddle height, screw on the pedals and have fun. Nathalie Schneitter She only became a member of the ROSE Vaujany fueled by ultraSPORTS team this year and has been highly successful from the start: Nathalie Schneitter. The Swiss rider has mixed it up in the women’s elite of the cross-country discipline: She became frst at the Sunshine Cup stage race in Cyprus, second at the BMC Racing Cup Yverdon and Swiss runner-up champion in Langendorf. At her home world cup in Lenzerheide she fnished 15th – the aim for 2016 is to get among the top 10! Nathalie Schneitter looks to the future with optimism. “I am looking forward to the new challenge. It is very motivating for me to feel the trust of my new team. What’s more, I already appreciate the German reliability very much. I am ready to rev up for ROSE again in the 2016 season! I am looking forward to sharing more adventures with you!”

Stef Klostermeier She is really pretty and lightning-fast – Steff Klostermeier cannot be pigeonholed. She is a member of the ROSE FACTORY TEAM and downhill is her mission; in 2015, she lets it rip on her THE UNCHAINED team edition. But that’s not all: As part of her integral training philosophy, she also likes endurance units on her X-LITE CRS-4400 road bike. “For me, biking means the pleasure to ride in the mountains – as fast as possible. Each one of us knows that mountain biking is more than just passive sitting on a bike and that active riding is very exhausing. That’s why I also have physical and psychological training besides my riding technique training.” It’s hard to believe that she still fnds time for winning races in spite of her time-consuming studies of materials science and engineering – but that’s exactly what she has defnitely proven with her victory at the Enduro Challenge Madeira this year!

Laura Lindemann Triathlon booms and she is the future of this fascinating kind of sport: Laura Lindemann. This year, she became Junior European Champion for the second time in a row. Moreover, the 19-yearold won the sprinting distance in the elite class at the German Triathlon Championships in Düsseldorf and in September 2015, she won her second Junior World title!

Boys collect stamps – this woman collects titles! Laura rides on an X-LITE TEAM-4000. Besides the performance potential of the racing bike, she also appreciates the chances that ROSE offers to her as a partner. “Thanks to my successes, ROSE also offers me great opportunities, like for example choosing the look of my bike myself. It‘s great that ROSE also offers their customers the possibility to individually confgure their bikes.” Laura’s next big aim are the Olympic Games in Rio. According

to the rider, who was born in Berlin, starting at the Sugarloaf Mountain is within her grasp. “If you are so close to it, you defnitely want to go there – I will give my all to achieve this. From a realistic point of view, there are three other women who are applying for this place.” Let’s hope that she will be able to book her ticket to South America soon, we are already looking forward to her next big career step!

LKT TEAM BRANDENBURG LKT TEAM BRANDENBURG – this name stands for top-level track cycling promotion in Brandenburg. Under the logo with the winged road cyclist, the best U23 riders from the road and track endurance cycling sector of Brandenburg meet. The manager is none other than Steffen Blochwitz, a successful road cyclist who scored among others a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul. However, world-class performances are not the only goal, as for Steffen Blochwitz the track is also an ideal basis for ambitious road cyclists of all types. “We believe that we can put better road cyclists on the starting line when also training on the track!” says the former top rider and team manager Blochwitz. The team’s location is at the Olympic Training Centre of

Brandenburg. With two cycle racing tracks, sports medical assistance and enough accommodation facilities, the conditions are almost perfect. In Frankfurt/Oder as well as in Cottbus, the team is accompanied by a coach who prepares the promising talents for their future in sports. Last but not least, a famous group of top cyclists proves that the people in Brandenburg are serious: Heinrich Haussler, Danilo Hondo, Andreas Klöden, Martin Müller and Olaf Pollack were actively involved in the formation of the LKT team. In the slipstream of this illustrious round, the Brandenburg talent system is growing and thriving and with it an interesting and very talented generation of new riders. That’s why we will also support the team with top racing bikes of the X-LITE series in 2016 and we are already looking forward to another successful season with the LKT TEAM BRANDENBURG!

“Go for Gold” – this is what is emblazoned on the jersey of the team. The big goal, the 2016 Olympic Games, towers above everything else, the four-head team wants to regain its former strength. The further development of the team is the number one priority, successes on the way there – whether on the track or on the road – are also on the list. Among the ambitions of the team are top 10 rankings in top-class races or reaching the sprint or mountain classifcation of a circuit. There’s yet another aspect that plays an important role in the work of the team: The rad-net ROSE team also wants to individually promote young talents: Step by step, and everyone according to their performance potential until they are maybe one day ready for medals

or the jump into the Pro Tour. “With medium-quality materials it would be diffcult to compete, but with ROSE we are excellently equipped,” team manager Ulrich Müller of the rad-net ROSE team says. This year, the riders ride the thoroughbred racer XEON CRS-44000 and could already score some successes. Among others, Jonas Koch scored a stage victory at the Tour de l’Avenir, Nils Schomber won the bronze medal at the German U23 Time Trial Championships and the efforts at the German Track Cycling Championships were also honoured with a gold and a silver medal. The course for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio is thus already set. In 2016, the team will ride over the road with top racers of the X-LITE series. Whether road or track – we keep our fngers crossed for the rad-net ROSE team!

CUSTOM-MADE Henry wants to ride nothing but an uncompromising racing bike and so he opted for the X-LITE CWX-8800. As he is a true perfectionist, he paid special attention to the details. “The X-LITE CWX-8800 is the prototype of a high-performance racing machine: It is lightweight, ultra-stiff and aerodynamic. I wanted to upgrade the bike by making it even more aerodynamic to achieve its full potential. The drinks bottle can be quickly and easily changed, the aero bottle Elite Kit Crono CX saves around 1,6 watts compared to a round standard bottle. The change of the wheels is a bit more expensive, as I have chosen the Zipp 303. However, they are really worth their money, as they help me to save some energy – around 4,5 watts compared to series wheels. A Profle cockpit with a -17° stem is ftted as standard. This provides an extremely aerodynamic riding position. As I am a passion-

ate road cyclist who rides a triathlon once a year, I have also upgraded the bike for this feld of use. The Profle T2 Plus DL aerobar helps me fnd my ideal riding position, which is a very important aspect in triathlon. Another positive thing is that I can fip the seat post by 180° to achieve a quite steep seating angle of over 76°. This allows me to even better adjust my position on the bike. As a perfect match to my triathlon bike, I have discovered the Selle Italia SLR TRI GEL. This saddle is lightweight and yet very comfortable even on longer rides. With this confguration, the X-LITE CWX-8800 fully meets my personal preferences and I didn’t even have to lend a hand. Individual, high-performance and tailored to my needs – in short: a true custom-made bike!

ROAD BIKES The motto is speed, the crowning event is a cycle race: Road bikes are the kings of the country road. There’s no other bike with which you can speed through the landscape that fast. Modern racers are made of aluminium or carbon, the models range from racy road bikes to moderate marathon bikes – it’s all a matter of taste and intended use. Christian Brumen is an expert and road cyclist and gives you an insight into the diferent varieties of road bikes!

Which frame material is better, carbon or aluminium?

Christian: There’s no general answer to this question, both materials have their advantages and their special feld of use. Aluminium is very stiff and thus prevents energy from getting lost in the frame. Nevertheless, the frames are very lightweight. Aluminium bikes are quite robust and can be manufactured quite cost-effectively. Carbon on the other hand is more sensitive than aluminium, however, that’s also why you can build extremely lightweight and stiff bikes with it. By laying the carbon fbres in a special direction, you can make a frame stiff in one yet fexible in the other direction. This makes a bike even more comfortable. However, due to the elaborate shapes, it is more expensive to produce than aluminium.

What kind of bike is suitable for which type of rider? Christian: You are an ambitious sportsman? You are looking for a competitive companion with which you can take part in all elite races – lightweight and extremely stiff? If so, a classic racer like those of the X-LITE or XEON CRS/RS series is just the right choice for you.

Speed is your passion. You can keep a high average speed in a forward-leaning riding position for a long time? CUSTOM-MADE Julian has a clear idea of how it should look like – his MR. BIG. “The 29 in hardtail is the ideal mountain bike for long-distance and marathon riders who prefer a bike without rear suspension. It impresses with a sophisticated, lightweight and stiff carbon frame, as well as with high-quality components – it’s a mountain bike that is just perfect for our region here around Bocholt. There are many long forest paths here, not too bendy and without big climbs. I couldn’t really make full use of more than 100 mm of travel here. The MR. BIG ensures fast acceleration, it simply rolls best.

The carbon frame is extremely torsion-resistant and very lightweight with a weight of just over 1100 grams. Last but not least, the look plays an important role for me, too. Although the MR. BIG 2 is really fun with its basic equipment, too, I couldn’t help but upgrade its features a little bit. The most striking update is surely the Rock Shox RS-1, an upside-down fork with a top performance. It weighs a mere 1710 grams, does an excellent job and looks absolutely awesome, especially on the MR. BIG.”

MTB There’s a wide variety of bikes available in the mountain bike sector – about half a dozen categories court the bikers’ favour. But what category should you go for? What are the diferences between the numerous systems? Is a full-susser better than a hardtail? And should I go for an enduro, all-mountain or cross-country bike? MTB product manager Julian Pöpping is our expert and answers the most important questions on the right mountain bike!

Full-susser or hardtail?

Julian: This is a question of the intended feld of use! If you rather ride in challenging terrain, a full-suspension bike – a fullsusser – would be to your advantage. The bike’s rear wheel is always in contact with the ground, which offers improved traction and control. Obstacles are simply swallowed up by the suspension system, and even jumps are absorbed by the suspension elements.

27,5 or 29 inches? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Julian: Bikes with 27,5” wheels have taken on the role of 26 in bikes. Compared to 29 in wheels, they are lighter and offer faster acceleration. They are the frst choice for winding trails where you have to accelerate more often. 29” wheels are primarily used for lower travels as well as for hardtails. These bikes easily roll over obstacles and bumps. This increases traction which means faster and safer acceleration. Moreover, 29ers roll better because of their larger rotating mass. Disadvantages: a slightly higher weight and a little less agility.

A hardtail comes without rear suspension and is only equipped with a front suspension fork. It is lighter and stiffer than a fullsusser and as there are no moving parts and no shock at the rear stay, it also requires less maintenance. 87

Which bike category is right for me?

Julian: This actually depends on your personal preferences. There is no right or wrong. There are great differences between the bikes which is why you should think about the intended feld of use and your preferred terrain frst. If you attach importance to speed, like to do endurance races and mostly ride in light to medium diffcult terrain, a cross-country or marathon bike is just right for you. Here, you can choose between hardtails and full sussers, the travel ranges from 80 to 120 mm. For weight reasons, the material carbon is often used. In general, marathon bikes offer more comfort and more travel and can thus also be used as lightweight touring bikes. The rougher the trail, the more travel you should have. If you like to do sporty day tours and love to integrate narrow singletracks into your routes, you should look for a full-suspension touring bike with a travel of 120 to 130 mm. With these lightweight touring bikes, you can even do marathons.

If you like to ride on demanding tracks with steep descents or jumps, the All Mountain category is just right for you. Those bikes have even more reserves thanks to a travel between 130 mm and 150 mm. Besides, they are equipped with robust components and offer a reliable downhill performance. All-mountain bikes are true all-rounders with excellent uphill and downhill qualities. At the extreme end of the spectrum, you can fnd enduro, freeride and downhill bikes. These bikes are true experts designed for use in bike parks, as well as on demanding trails and fast downhills. They impress with sensitive suspension systems, perfect traction and control. When it comes to downhill riding, modern freeride and enduro bikes almost offer the qualities of downhill bikes. However, they are also suitable for riding up the mountains. Whichever MTB you choose â&#x20AC;&#x201C; they are all fun!

TREKKING/FITNESS Trekking and ftness bikes are true quick-change artists. Their range of use is huge, they are suitable for use in training, for long bicycle tours and for rides through the city. The borders between the categories are fuid: Fitness bikes are lightweight, fast and primarily designed for doing sports, while trekking bikes are designed for on-road use and thus ideal to carry luggage – they are true packhorses for everyday life and leisure time. Let’s start with ftness bikes. What diferences are there?

Petra: We offer three series of ftness bike models: the MULTISTREET, the MULTISPORT and the TEAM DX CROSS series. All three series are sporty, however, they set different priorities. If you want to use your bike for training but you don’t want to ride a road bike, we’ll recommend you the MULTISTREET bikes. These bikes have racing genes and are yet more comfortable to ride than road bikes. They are extremely lightweight, fast and equipped with high-quality frames and parts.

You are looking for a versatile bike – for use on off-road trails or for training rounds around the lake? The MULTISPORT and TEAM DX CROSS bikes can be used anywhere, on or off the road.
