MILLION TREES MIAMI PROJECT TITLE:
Canopy Action Plan and Canopy Planner Online Mapping Software
CLIENT: Million Trees Miami, Miami-Dade County DESCRIPTION: In partnership with American Forests, Plan-It Geo
has developed a Canopy Action Plan to guide the implementation of regional and local canopy and program goals, provide local canopy targets and priorities, raise awareness, encourage participation, and incite action to achieve Million Trees Miami’s goals and vision for MiamiDade County. Additionally, a custom Canopy Planner tool was created to prioritize and track plantings and engage the community.
PLAN-IT GEO SERVICES: Software Application Development Services
The goal for Million Trees Miami is to plant 1 million trees to achieve 30 percent tree canopy cover for Miami-Dade County. With the “View” and “Plan” tools, the online map allows any user to see where tree canopy is low, where possible planting space is high, and then weight and prioritize socioeconomic, health, and environmental criteria to determine priority areas for tree planting. The “Grow” tool also helps planners evaluate potential tree canopy goals and tree numbers to reach goals, forecast future benefits, and create or compare scenarios.
