Conference Investing in girls: a good business! Each year, on the International Day of the Girl – the 11th of October – the international community pays attention to the unique challenges that girls face around the world, especially in developing countries. Although education and labour participation among girls and young women (16 - 24 years) have increased during the last decade, they are still lagging behind and girls and young women are still at risk of exploitation and abuse. On the occasion of this important international day, we are hosting the conference Investing in girls: a good business! The conference will take place on Thursday October 9th, 2014 in Amsterdam (location to be confirmed). During this conference, participants from companies, governments and NGO’s will be able to learn about the best practices from companies that have already committed themselves to achieving the goal of more and decent work for girls and young women. Together, we will take a closer look at the possibilities for investing in girls: how to work in accordance with the international guidelines (ILO/OESO) for entrepreneurship abroad. How can investing in more and decent work for girls and young women also benefit companies and society at large? Jeroen Smit, famous research journalist and author of the bestseller ‘De prooi’ will moderate the conference.

We have invited the following speakers: • Lilianne Ploumen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation (confirmed) • Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women (to be confirmed) • Jeroen Roodenburg, Director Sustainable Economic Development Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (to be confirmed) • Babiche Veenendaal, Managing Director Accenture and member Supervisory Board Accenture Foundation (confirmed) • Jeroen Jansen, Director ASN Bank (confirmed) An official invitation will follow soon.
