PLANNING AUTHORITY

The Planning Authority is organising a series of short evening lectures purposely designed to facilitate and empower the public and interested stakeholders to gain a be er understanding and knowledge base about various subjects associated with urban design, planning policies, architecture, sustainability, heritage planning and land use. Persons interested in a ending any of these evening lectures are to send an email on eveninglectures@pa.org.mt. For further informa on call 2290 2015. A limited number of spaces are available and places will be reserved against a fee of €10 per lecture which will be donated to The Hospice Movement (Malta). Lectures will be held between 18.00-20.00hrs at the Planning Authority’s offices in Floriana.

BACKGROUND The new Planning Authority was launched in April 2016. The Planning Authority is responsible for development planning and has a number of Boards and Commi ees that assist the organiza on to fulfill its func ons and responsibili es efficiently and transparent, in line with its legal obliga ons. The Planning Authority secures a balanced and sustainable environment for our community and provide a be er quality of life through a sustainable land use planning system. To run its opera ons the Authority has three directorates; the Planning Directorate is responsible for the promo on and control of proper land development in accordance with approved policies and plans. It seeks to achieve sustainable development through the prepara on and implementa on of development plans and policies and the processing of planning applica ons. This directorate also administers the scheduling process of cultural, archaeological and natural sites. The Enforcement Directorate is responsible to ensure compliance with the building development permits. The Corporate Services Directorate is responsible to ensure that the en re organiza on is serviced and provides a sound infrastructure for the directorates to carry out their responsibili es and func ons. The Directorate is also responsible for Human Resources, Informa on Technology, Mapping and Landsurveying, Support Services and Finance.
