Mission Requirements Inspire Redesign

The genesis of the new models was the European Union’s demanding Stage V emission standard. Currently, the EU Stage V emission standard for diesel engines installed in non-road mobile machinery requires both a catalytic converter and, for engines above 19 kW, a particulate filter.

“When the emissions regulation came into effect in 2019, it forced us to reduce the power in the 600 series, which was reflected in the performance of the machines,” stated design engineer Juho Jokelainen.

“But now, thanks to the new engine, the power of these models matched the power of the 745 and 750 models. The new loaders comply with both European Stage V and US Tier 4 Final emission standards,” he went on to add.

Both the 645i and the two-speed 650i are equipped with a Kubota V1505CRT diesel engine. In addition, the 4-cylinder turbocharged common rail engine is equipped with an oxidation catalyst and a particulate filter, which both look after the exhaust aftertreatment. Additives such as AdBlue are not required.

Modern passenger car engines are on-par with loaders equipped with filters in terms of particulate emissions, and one thing that’ll become apparent to Avant drivers will be the substantially cleaner working environment. Issues such as smoke or odours will become things of the past.

The efficiency of the engines means that using them at full power is mostly unnecessary under most circumstances. Fuel consumption, a huge issue in today’s economy, is minimal in comparison with large work machines.

The reduction in fuel consumption is largely thanks to the modern engine control. In addition, the engine reacts faster to both drivers’ requests and load variations, making the machines much smoother to operate.

Efficient, Clean, And Quiet

The maximum oil flow of the auxiliary hydraulics is 751/ min, which is highly unique to a loader of this size class. The lack of noise from the engines is due to its capability of use at low revs, whilst the new loaders can run almost any of Avant’s hydraulically driven attachments at maximum speed.

‘’We have been able to reduce the noise level in this size class lower than ever’’, says Olli Hankamäki.

The sound power level was officially measured at LWA 98 dB (A) when the machine was taken to full speed. In the driver’s seat, the sound pressure level was 83 Db (Lpa).

‘’These loaders are the quietest Avants right after the fully electric e-series machines’’, says Olli.

Unmatched Comfort

Standard on the new machines is an open ROPS/FOPScertified cab. Users also have the option of the L-cab and Avant’s latest GT cab, bringing a level of comfort to this size class not often seen. Drivers also have very good levels of sound and vibration, making a drive a pleasant experience. The cab’s heating, comfortable ergonomics, and large windows are other noteworthy bonuses, and the availability of air conditioning is a literal breath of fresh air.

‘’On the seat of the GT cab, you feel like you’re driving a bigger machine, even though you have a very agile loader underneath you, which can also fit into places that you couldn’t reach with big machines’’, said Olli Hankamäki.

More Data

Those familiar with the interface and display of Avant’s 700 and 800 series loaders will feel at home in their new ones. The display truly helps to operate the loader efficiently.

“The user gets even more information about the state of the machine. In the event of maintenance, the machine tells you that now is the time for maintenance, or regeneration of the particulate filter, etc. The system also shows guidance for other maintenance topics, or error codes and warning to the user in a similar way to the latest car models,’’ says Juho Jokelainen.
