Overview on Welding: In simple terms, welding means connecting two pieces of metal. Different types of welding : Gas welding: Gas welding operations center on a torch that creates the welding flame. The basic common gas combination used for welding is a mixture of oxygen and acetylene. If you notice, gas welding is mostly use for welding pipes. Gas welding equipment can also be used for cutting, brazing and heating metal for bending. A welder does not require electricity to perform gas welding as these systems are portable and can be used in remote locations that does not have electrical sources. But this is not considered an important part of welding and fabrication shops. Arc welding: Arc welding is a great way to complete many projects, but it is important to know the right procedures in order to get the right results. Arc welding can weld cast iron. One of the most common problems welders encounter is metal that picks up moisture and becomes difficult with which to work. If the rod has picked up moisture, it is easy to remove that moisture by simply placing that rod in the oven at 400 degreesFahrenheit for one hour. Spot welding: Spot welding is used to join thin sheets of metal using an electric current to create a weld at a single location.

Welding safety: Protective Gear: A welder is exposed to ultraviolet light radiation from the electric arc . All skin should be covered, including covering your hands with welding gloves. Uncovered skin can get burned, so covering up the neck and hands is important. Work clothing should not be made from synthetic materials, as a stray spark can cause them to melt. By wearing a welding helmet you can protect your eyes and face. Inspecting Gear: The welder should inspect all electrical connectors and cables for proper insulation. The connections for the equipment should be able to handle the amount of electrical current coming through them. Welding Gloves: Welding Gloves protect the welder’s hands from sparks thrown off by the welder and burns from the heated metal. Welding masks: Welding masks include shields that cover the head and neck and include darkened glass to protect the eyes from the intense light of the welding spark . Aprons and Coveralls:

Welders often wear leather aprons or other covering garments to protect themselves and their clothes from burns. Use quality equipment: Do not use extension cords that are frayed or patched for your welder . These machines suck up a large amount of amperage and power cords on the welder is asking for trouble. Also, use the most expensive welding hood you can afford. It is never recommended to turn off a grinder and simply lay it on the ground in case you need it later. Every welder is at risk of an accident with equipment that is still plugged in, even if it is off. Source: http://www.everlastgenerators.com
