Welcome Hello ColleaguesPLAT is, once again, very excited to share the Professional Learning Course Guide for Fall 2018. You may take these optional learning experience to earn inservice credits (applied toward your 3 in 3), stipend, and salary credits (applied toward a salary channel change). 3 in 3 As you make choices for your development, consider if you want to take the course for pay or to earn credit toward your 3 in 3 (three learning credits every three years). For details on 3 in 3, please see the 3 in 3 Explained. Some courses are only offered for pay, some only for credit, and some are offered for either pay or credit. Don’t see a course that matches your needs? PLAT HAS DEVELOPED A FLEXIBLE SYSTEM THAT ALLOW YOU TO EARN CREDIT FOR THE LEARNING THAT IS MOST RELEVANT YOU! Click HERE for details

Before making a course selection, carefully read the course description. Many courses are opportunities for teachers of the same course/level to work together. Also, some courses are subject specific—so even though it might look like a great course, it may not be applicable for your learning needs. If you aren’t sure if the course is open to all certified staff members, contact the course instructor prior to registering. When in doubt, contact the instructor first. Happy Learning! This school year we are piloting providing a $25 book/resource credit upon completion of a course INSTEAD of ordering books/resources for participants. ● PLAT will collect data on the pilot and review in Feb to determine how to move forward in the summer. The following informed this pilot: ● About 30% of participants drop the course after registering. ○ We are stuck with extra unused books/resources. ○ In the case of courses with waiting lists, it is challenging to track down the book/resource from the dropped participant, move to the next person on the waiting list, and get it to them in a timely manner. ● With online courses increasing, we are finding it challenging for our office and instructors to get books/resources to participants that they may never see face to face. ● The bulk of the text are around $25. ● Because of our finance policy, there is often a multi-week delay between knowledge of purchase needed and arrival of texts. ○ Most books/resources are readily available online with a very quick delivery timeframe. ● It is standard practice for participants to provide their own texts for college courses, because we pride ourselves in offering courses equivalent to college courses, this is inline with common practice.

3 in 3 Explained Board Policy GCIA.G All full time certified educators are required to earn three in-service credits every three years (3 in 3) to keep from being held on step or going backward on the salary schedule. Three credits in three years may be earned with graduate credit, salary credit, district in-service credit, building in- service credit, foreign or domestic travel, or individual research as approved by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and Accountability (see definitions below). In-service credit is not granted when the activity occurs during working hours, pays the teacher to attend, the teacher receives a yearly stipend for his/her participation, or when the district pays registration fees or other costs of attending the activity. (Exception – Collaborative Team Leader Development) Professional learning which is acceptable for earning credit is learning that enables educators to develop the knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions they need to help students perform at higher academic levels. Please see the 3 in 3 FAQ page HERE.
