What it mean to be librarian in the digital age? Notes &does Reminders Notes & Reminders Ordering Process Updates Per finance (DESE rules), ebooks/audiobooks that are accessed via a website need to be ordered separately from books. Audiobooks, like playaways (physical format) will also need to be ordered on a separate order. I know this is confusing. If you need clarification, feel free to contact Nancy. (email 9/20) A quick reminder, when placing Follett orders: 1. Email Nancy first. 2. Always wait for a response before ordering. 3. Place order and then print order as a PDF (under the print menu) immediately and share in Follett orders folder located here. If all of the above does not happen, your order may not have a PO generated, and then may be canceled.(emailed 7/18) Also, due to new rules from DESE, please order all ebooks/audiobooks separate from books. emailed 7/16)

Here is What We, As Future Ready Librarians, Do in Each One of the Wedges - Padlet Recently Shannon McClintock Miller held a two day workshop where the topic was empowering leadership for school librarians through innovative professional practice. In those two days they created a Padlet that shared what they do specifically to lead, teach, and support in each on of the wedges including links, events, ideas, etc. Hope you find something inspirational.

PDF Candy This might be a useful tool for the school community. PDFs are incredibly useful for all kinds of things. For instance, they are a universal file format that works well on all devices and don't need any additional software for viewing their contents. However, they can also be a very frustrating file format. Have you ever tried to split a PDF, merge it with another PDF, or convert it to another format? PDF Candy may be the answer. It’s solution-based thinking that starts with a general goal, not just a specific problem to help create broader ideas.

Simple Machines: Fun Way to Learn Physics Many librarians have a science spin on makerspaces these days, in this Simple Machines app, you can combine gamification with stem and physics. This app is also endorsed by Common Sense Education’s and was selected as an App of the Day. Simple Machines lets kids manipulate tools and see how they help us do work. They'll use a wedge to split up an iceberg, push a lever to destroy a castle, drag planes into the sky with pulleys, lift fish tanks with screws, play pinball with inclined planes, and bike through an obstacle course with a wheel and axle. Each step of the way, kids are changing variables to see how the machine reacts.

Frostbite Theater - 87 Science Experiment Video Lessons Jefferson Lab's YouTube channel includes a playlist titled Frostbite Theater. The playlist has 87 videos and features science demonstrations and experiments. Many of the demonstrations involve the use of liquid nitrogen. You'll also find videos about electricity, insects, and lasers. Applications for Education Rather than just showing these videos to your students, place them into a tool like EDpuzzle or TES Teach with Blendspace to build questions into the videos. Both of those tools will let you add questions into the timeline of a video and let your students respond while watching the videos. See the full blog post at freetech4teachers.com

Record 30 seconds of video using your webcam. The video is automatically saved to Google Drive and the link to the video is copied to your clipboard. This makes sharing the video extremely easy. Note: You will want to change the sharing permissions on the folder in Google Drive to "Anyone with the link can view" to allow others to view the videos you record. Webcam Record by Alice Keeler is designed to allow students to use the webcam to record 30 seconds of them explaining a concept. Teachers can use webcam record to provide students video feedback. Since the video link is automatically copied to the clipboard, teachers can paste the link easily into a gradebook comment. Users of Google Classroom will love Alice Keeler Webcam Record. Students can record themselves using the webcam. The video is saved in Google Drive, thus they can easily add the video to any assignment. Use Alice Keeler Webcam Record to have students do a quick reflection on their learning and include with the assignment. Alice Keeler Webcam Record works with Google Slides. Use the Insert menu in Slides to choose the webcam recording out of the Google Drive folder and it is embedded right in the slide. Default record time is 30 seconds. Right click on the extension icon to change the options. Maximum record time is 90 seconds.

Where Classroom Design Meets Design Thinking The trick to creating an effective learning space is to build in a certain amount of agility when designing it. Teachers/Librarians can start simply, with the overall goals they have for their classrooms/libraries, the types of projects they want to do, and the mindset they want to instill in students. Read about the power of asking students ‘Hey, is this working? Are you able to learn this way? How can we design this better?’ at EdSurge.
