Know & Go Updates @your Library Updates & Reminders October 18th PD Day Information A change in the time of the October 18th PD Day has revised our plans. We we were going to meet from 8:00 to 11:00 and then you would return to your building for the afternoon. Now it seems that it is a full day of district learning. For the all-day development, you will have the opportunity to either attend a Future Ready Workshop presented by the Alliance for Excellent Education (with Brianna Hodges as facilitator) or attend the district development at West High School. The Future Ready workshop is designed for school-based leaders (Principals, Librarians, and Instructional Coaches) explore effective school-based leadership strategies that assist with the transformation and modernization of student learning through the support from the FRS Framework. This free workshop has only been offered in St Louis twice and is a great opportunity to connect with other librarians from the area. Lunch and snacks are provided but registration is required. The workshop is at Orchard Farms High School in St Charles, MO from 9:00 until 3:00. Please register yourself and complete the very quick PD Plans Google form here. The all day development option at WHS will be from 8:00 to 3:00 with an hour for lunch. That day will consist of some vendors sharing new features and products, curriculum work, and MSPLC time (if needed). Please complete the PD Day form (if you haven’t already done so) by Friday, October 4th so we have record of your participation in the District Learning Day on October 18th.

Librarian Substitute List When Parkway’s HR department handled substitutes, Library Services would provide a few instructional videos (Destiny specific) that people who wanted to sub would watch and sign off that they wanted to work in the library. The process is different now that Kelly Services is the provider for substitutes. There is no way to push out those instructional videos or to know who has library knowledge. That is why in September a list was crowdsourced from all of you. If you have additional people that you’d like to add to the list, let Kim know. Here is a link to that Google sheet.

How Do Teachers and Schools Develop Young Innovators? Innovation is a long, diďŹƒcult journey with several failures before the right solution is designed Shelly Terrell (Sanchez) STEM teacher and speaker delivered the keynote for the #KYGoDigital Summer Tour Conference,, where she talked about The Keys to Fostering a Culture of Innovation! Students Who S.A.I.L. In her story she shares that Thomas Edison designed the lightbulb 10,000 times, which meant he had this incredible drive to keep trying over 9,000 times after not getting it quite right. Innovation is a long, difficult journey with several failures before the right solution is designed. Some of students shut down after failing once. Our hardest job is to help students believe in themselves time and time again so they outlast the journey and come up with the solutions to transform their communities and change the world! Her keynote focused on the importance of teachers and schools offering curricula that motivates students to design, build, and create solutions to problems that impact them. Below find the recording to her keynote along with key tweets highlighting some of the important parts. Find the slides and resources here.
