and final production with young people
Production Engagement: (Stepping) Exhibitions
The artist in residence programme want to strength that process.
Plein Air 1 opportunity for a Visual Artist to work on an open air site to create an installation / exhibition of their own work. Inspired by both the schoolyard stories and characters, and by the outstanding landscape we hope to create a series of extraordinary artworks. Each artist would then be joined by performers from each company who would rehearse their „Play contribution“ within the Art Exhibition. Over a weekend during the process it is hoped that all artists would participate in a Master Class process – where they share their skills with each other and with young people from the area.
Plein Air 2 Plein Air June 6 till June 24 (Visual Artists will stay for Annual Encounter) Along the path close to each of the platforms there are power supplies (little blocks of concrete with plugs, they shall be the centre of a 6 m circle where the visual artist is going to work (some of the spots also include a platform). O Bando also asks all the artists to create these blocks: the created / painted power block will stay for sure. Every artist will get a budget of 400 € to buy additional / special material. The artists will be accommodated in houses / villas which to be shared. They will have their own room to sleep in and share kitchen and living room with the others. Every house / villa will have a car. Two tankfuls will be covered by the project. A per diem of 15 € will be paid as the lunch will be provided by Teatro O Bando. More information about accommodation: http://www.palmelavillage.com/gca/?id=109 Insurance: please negotiate the status of your artists; they all should be contracted by you the way that they also are insured. Platform 11+ will is not responsible for liability or health insurance. The national visual artist shall take care that he / she shall bring a picture / collage of the schoolyard of the partner schools. It might be done with the young people. This sheet added at AB Meeting London (Mar 2010)
Education and Engaement (1) The Education and Engagement programme for P-11-plus is wide ranging and hopes to embrace Research and development of practice with the target age group 11-15, both stimulating plays / pieces of art by professional writers / visual artists for performance / exhibitions and in the encouragement of the creation of work by the young people themselves. hereinafter referred to as: Partner 11
hereby agree at 2008, September 13 the following: 1. Preamble PLATFORM 11+ (P11+) is a multidisciplinary cultural effort of 12 European theatre companies targeted at young people aged 11 till 15. Adolescents of this age category are so called „Lückekinder“: too mature for fairy tales and not mature enough for adult cultural activities. So far in Europe there have been few initiatives in the arts to take the young peoples’ specific need into consideration, which is to discover their environment via the arts. During adolescence however, dealing with the subject art can have a lasting impact on personality development and world outlook.
The new network intends to link on a European level the collective school experiences of each generation. It aims to make these specific stories/memories the starting point of multidisciplinary artistic developments for professionals and non-professionals. All artists (playwrights, artists of the performing and visual arts) work in 3 phases, which are process-oriented and successive. They start by describing their own roots (national), then they go on to reflect a partner (binational) and finally participate in a pan-European context (multi-national). The integration of artists coming from different origins, education and orientation guarantees in a European frame high quality works in reference to content and esthetic diversity. The artists meet Europe-wide on a regular base to exchange their work results and discuss experiences made. They exchange their perspectives concerning the expertise of singular partners during workshops, artists in residences, company exchanges, annual meetings and education conventions. At these meetings they encounter local artists and cultural institutions. Hereby the relationships among the participants strengthen and lead to the establishment of a cultural network. Beyond the project’s duration, it will act as an intermediary to link artists and contacts, plays, productions and art works/exhibitions. P11+ is eager to contribute to a development of a European identity. It intends to intervene in those areas where identity formation takes place. Among students, in particular, the involvement of “Lückekinder” is of great importance. In most art forms this age group does not attract much interest. When students of these age groups meet on the schoolyard, they still represent the microcosm of the surrounding society. On the schoolyards you will yet find in this age group a blend of different ethnic and social groups (before the subsequent separation and the isolation of the elite groups). The project promotes the development of individual self-conception and multicultural interest through artistic activities. Only confident citizens can be successful in constructing Europe’s future by linking creatively cultural plurality and national identity.
