A STORY ABOUT BAGGY MINNIES

I once lived next to Alexandra Park where Baggy Minnies (Minnows) swim in a pond there. My son John caught some with a net and put them into a bottle. The fish had a treat because John fell in! Rena Quinn

REFLECTIONS: DATA OVERLOAD The information dam had broken in the hills A river of trivia flooded the fields April showers caused rivers to overflow Flower petals dropped off and washed downstream Information flew to and fro Social media, TV programmes, the news My mind was overflowing and all washed away Too much information, memory banks full No reserve reservoirs What do I do? You take it all in without question Is it disinformation or fake news? I no longer understand It runs away Information overload, what can I do? The three wise monkeys come to mind Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil Keep my mind tightly closed against the storm of misinformation Try to preserve my privacy Beware of propaganda Keep myself grounded Before I get carried downstream Lost forever in the deluge Margaret Steele

MARLENE’S HOUSEHOLD TIPS…

…for getting rid of flies, use sprigs of mint in a vase on your window sill to deter flies, smells good too! …for getting rid of grease stains, rub a handful of cornflour into the stains, leave to absorb the grease then wash as usual …for dirty hands, mix one tablespoon each of lemon juice and oatmeal together to clean stained hands! MUM Mum you were a strong woman, A strength that matched that of a Thousand David and Goliaths. Also, so tender Your big but tender hand Held my little hand So protective, so consoling. You took me everywhere I could always trust you. You would feel bad if you were late picking me up from school, which was only once, As the damn bus was behind schedule. You never burdened me with any Word or worries. You made me feel everything was alright. You let me have my childhood my innocence. At the same time, you let me do things Gradually, for example, Liverpool 1984 You with caring hesitation, let me go Thinking we have to let the apron strings go And let her grow up. Then letting me get my own house. Much gratitude mum, I love you. Susan Milligan
