Platform is the arts centre at the heart of The Bridge in Easterhouse. We connect local communities with high calibre artists, offering a year round programme of theatre, gigs, exhibitions, workshops and events.

Located in the East End of Glasgow (minutes from Glasgow Fort shopping centre) we are extremely accessible, well served by bus and train, and have a spacious free car park. We share the building with Glasgow Kelvin College, Glasgow Life swimming pool and library, and there is a contemporary cafĂŠ bar which is open late on performance nights and is the perfect place to meet, socialise or work.


We are delighted to welcome you to Platform 4 this autumn for an exciting season of shows from across Scotland and the UK. We look forward to Grid Iron bringing their hilarious road-movie for the stage, South Bend; much loved family shows from Barrowland Ballet, Catherine Wheels and an intriguing interactive mystery, The Hidden, from Visible Fictions. Roll up, roll up for the best of Scottish circus in a new two day Braw Circus festival from Aerial Edge guaranteed to bring the house down. And, as the nights draw in, our programme wouldn’t be complete without festive treats and this year we saddle up to present the rosette-winning family show, Black Beauty from Red Bridge Arts, alongside Flutter by Tortoise in a Nutshell; a beautiful, immersive journey for younger children through a world of wintery snow.

THE POP-UP OPERA ROADSHOW

Presented by Scottish Opera and supported by Festival 2018 Scottish Opera is packing up its theatre on wheels and bringing The Pop-up Opera Roadshow to Easterhouse as part of Festival 2018, the cultural programme for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships. Two brilliant 25-minute shows for audiences of all ages are performed in a speciallyadapted, fully-accessible trailer, recreating Glasgow’s Theatre Royal. The Hidden

Presented by Visible Fictions Someone has gone missing but have they left messages behind? Hidden in books, written on index cards, scribbled on the back of an old photograph; there is a mystery waiting to be solved. The Hidden is a dramatic interactive experience for small groups of secondary school pupils and families. You will work as a team to make sense of clues and come up with a theory to solve the mystery.

Presented by Nima Séne in association with Platform A cultural realness blitzkrieg – flawless Beige B*tch tackles imperfection in the era of the image. An explosive mix of film, movement and live art exploring a black women’s quest for cultural and aesthetic belonging, provocatively unpicking the concept of ‘beigeness’. Sending up online workout and make-up tutorials, TV host Beige B*tch reports on the Beige Nation’s biggest celebrity (herself), confronting and promoting aspects of black diasporic identity. A Disappearing Act

Presented by Single Shoe Productions From the creators of acclaimed hit Crazy Glue, comes an interactive, magic-filled comedy. Eastern Promise brings a thrilling mix of live music, performance and visual art to the East End of Glasgow. Now in its eighth year, this trailblazing event promises a stellar line-up of gigs, performances and art installations throughout the building with pop-up food and drink available all day. IDRIS ACKAMOOR AND THE PYRAMIDS, legendary West

coast intergalactic jazz mavericks, return to Platform following their new album release An Angel Fell (Strut). Expect psychedelia, cosmic jazz and the healing power of music from this theatrical spiritual jazz ensemble. Platform is delighted to welcome the return of keyboard and accordian maestro . The Ethio-jazz funk pioneer recently released Lala Belu, his first full-length album in two decades featuring Ethiopian traditionals and Mergia originals.

is dynamic relationship instantly and continuously transforming, told through the bodies of three distinct performers and is presented by CHIVAS/ REID/SMEKOT. This collaboration is a meditation on things that draw us together and those that fall away using the distinct voices of dance and live music. For 16yrs+

MONSTER

Turner prize nominated will present Turn the Ordinary into Adventure, a short film inspired by the novel The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. This subversive and magical film will see people transform through organic face creams and potions – a portal to the supernatural. The film was commissioned by GoMA as part of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

Our visual arts programme includes residencies,18 commissions and exhibitions. We work with artists at every stage of their career, from students to emerging and established artists working internationally. Drawing and painting are the focus of our exhibitions this season including a presentation of local artists who attend our weekly Art Factory to the closing exhibition of the year by awardwinning film-maker and visual artist Henry Coombes and Marcella McIntosh. Celebrating lens based work, Fòcas: Document brings together three Indian and three Scottish photographers who explore their world as global citizens and Glasgow based photographer and film-maker Colin James Tennant depicts the people of Glasgow’s East End.

Pardesi Project

Colin James Tennant EASTERHOUSE ON FILM

Presented by Luminate in association with Platform A short film featuring stories of people living in the East End of Glasgow. During the spring and summer of 2018, photographer and filmmaker Colin James Tennant met and collaborated with a number of older Easterhouse residents. Expect an insight into the vibrant community that meet and gather locally in allotments, pubs, church halls and other community settings. This film was commissioned by Luminate, Scotland’s creative ageing organisation in association with Platform. Supported by SCVO, One Digital and the Big Lottery Fund. Henry Coombes and Marcella McIntosh Ayes In Your Head

Presented by Platform

An exhibition bringing together drawings and paintings by awardwinning film-maker and visual artist Henry Coombes and collaborator, Marcella McIntosh. Henry, who is now better known for creating films that are by turn both

intense and tender has continued to create paintings, drawing and sculpture, each artform responding to and influencing the other. Creative force Marcella has featured in a number of Henry's films, in particular in his most recent film Love and Lithium that weaved together her memories and future hopes. We offer a wide range of free and low cost 22 workshops, classes and activities for all ages, including music, drama and art. From painting to performance, sewing to socialising and everything in-between, there really is something for everyone. OUR PEOPLE, OUR PLACE

2018 is Year of Young People and Platform is delighted to offer a host of creative projects for young people. As part of our Cashback for Creativity funded activity programme for 13 to 17 year olds, workshops in songwriting, film making and gaming will run each week during the summer holidays and during the October midterm. Keep your eyes peeled for specially commissioned public art at The Bridge, created by artist, Alice Dansey-Wright with young people from Glasgow Kelvin College. The painted mural and improved landscaping have been commissioned in partnership with Seven Lochs Wetland Park and supported by Grow Wild. The project will launch at The Bridge Festival Day on 29 July. Platform also commissioned Alice to work with patients and staff to create a new mural and map for Lochend Surgery waiting area. A partnership with Alliance Scotland, Links Worker Programme.


Autumn Big Band Tea Dance

Look out those dancing shoes and join us at one of our traditional tea dances this autumn. Due to popular demand we are hosting afternoon tea dances over two days. Led by a live 6 piece band, That Swing Sensation, with a dance troupe on hand to kick start the dancing, guests will enjoy tea, cakes, guest vocalists and more than enough quicksteps, foxtrots and waltzes to satisfy first-timers and veterans alike. With a nod to nostalgia, the auditorium will be transformed into an amazing ballroom featuring beautiful handmade art works and table cloths created by local people. the Glasgow Fort shopping complex and situated next to Glasgow Kelvin College, Easterhouse Library and Swimming Pool (all part of The Bridge).

By Bus It couldn’t be easier with Stagecoach X19 and First Buses 38/A/B/C/E 41 43 46 60/60A/M60 stopping right outside the entrance on Westerhouse Road. By Train From Queen Street take the lower level east bound to Easterhouse. From Edinburgh get the Helensburgh train on the Airdrie to Bathgate line. Platform is around a 15 minute walk from the station. DRIVING Take M8 Junction 10. Entry is via Westerhouse Road – just look out for the wind turbine.
