A unique collaboration featuring the cream of German contemporary musicians with the haunting beauty of Gaelic Psalm singers. Rayon are lead by Markus Acher of Notwist and feature Sachiko Hara, Cico Beck, Karl Ivar Refseth, Anton Kaun and Tad Klimp. An exploration of the space between music, interlocking time signatures and journey’s through spiraling arpeggios played on piano, marimba, harmoniums gongs filtered through algorithmic processing.
A unique collaboration between four incredible and individualistic performers: featuring the combined talents of Aidan O’Rourke (Lau), Alasdair Roberts, Alex Neilson (Trembling Bells) and Stephanie Hladowski. Individually Stephanie, Alasdair, Alex and Aidan have done much to expand the vocabulary of traditional folk music. For this collaboration they will apply wayward techniques to some familiar tunes - drawing on their interests in poetry, rock music and free improvisation.
Mairi Morrison is steeped in the tradition of Gaelic Psalm singing and together with her Psalm ensemble have selected some of their favourite Psalms for Rayon to compose new scores for.

If I had a girl… is a ground-breaking verbatim production that provides startling insight into the lived experience of honour-based violence in ethnic minority communities around Scotland. In their own words, survivors and perpetrators of honour-based violence show us how the choices we make, the families we are born into, and the expectations of others can shape our lives irrevocably. If I had a girl… speaks for those whose voices are silenced or stolen.

Every April, we transform The Studio performance space into a pop up gallery. Previously, we have commissioned new work by Mary Redmond for Generation and Alex Frost and Mandy McIntosh as part of the supported programme for Glasgow International. This year we have invited artists Ruby Pester and Nadia Rossi to present new work as part of our experimental crossarts festival Outskirts.
Rooted in a do-it-yourself approach, the duo make imagery, handmade props and costumes that relate to aspects of the body and reference popular culture. They create immersive performances and social experiments that explore childhood nostalgia, public ceremony and a celebration of the home-made.

The Travelling Gallery’s Spring 2017 exhibition explores the various verbal and non-verbal ways we translate and understand our day to day feelings within a capitalist society with the question: How do we communicate our emotions within our work place? The exhibition departs from work by German artist KP Brehmer ‘Soul and Feelings of a worker’ (1978 – 1980) who uses collected data, graphs and charts to map the daily emotions of workers from very happy to uneasy. The exhibition also includes contemporary artists who look at the industrialised and repetitive effects of our commute, lunch time, leisure, labour and health. All exploring similar frustrations in the present time of zero hour contracts, austerity, strikes and ‘red tape’.
