CLASS, HISTORY AND TECHNOLOGY

Currently under construction, the first in Picchiotti’s new 33-metre Gentleman’s Yacht line signals the brand’s relaunch with a series of timeless yachts created from a modern, technological perspective, using only hybrid or full electric propulsion

The Gentleman’s Yacht 33 by Picchiotti is currently under construction, with an eye to the American market. However, the yacht’s timeless appeal, expressed in a contemporary stylistic idiom, and its cutting-edge technical solutions mean it’s sure to cause a stir outside the States, too. The new range is launched with the Gentleman’s Yacht 33, but it will also include a 30, 44 and 55-metre model, plus the 24 “Open Air”. All this activity marks the relaunch of a brand whose origins go far back in time, as it has been a standard-bearer for Italian naval excellence since 1575. The design for the entire range is the result of a collaboration between Picchiotti and Luca Dini’s Design & Architecture, which handled exteriors and interiors, with the participation of Kurt Lehman and his Yacht Moments consultancy. In the words of Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of the Italian Sea Group, which acquired Picchiotti in 2021, “The American market is very receptive to this new Picchiotti fleet, which

is inspired by the post-war golden age of yachting and includes some aesthetic details drawn from American culture. One example is the glossy mahogany, a material that often appears in American homes and bars. It’s re-used in the Gentleman’s Yacht in contrast with the superstructure colours, with everything embellished by the chromed steel of various exterior details.

Luca Dini points out that the feel of the most illustrious yachts of the period is also recreated by “the side walkway on the main deck that enables you walk around the whole perimeter of the yacht”. Now a must-have, the beach club is a more modern feature, and is one the largest to be found on a yacht of this size. It opens directly onto the sun platform through large sliding windows. “Another refinement that deserves a special mention”, says Dini, “is the custom tender, a miniature version of the parent yacht, sporting the same lines and livery”.

The interior styling is contemporary – oak, which creates a link

Like the other models in the range, the Gentleman’s Yacht 33 recreates and modernises the lines of craft in vogue in the post-war golden age of yachting.

All the Gentleman’s Yachts will be offered exclusively with hybrid or electric propulsion

with the exterior, is complemented by wickerwork and stone like amazonite, Calacatta Oro, Statuarietto and green, blue and yellow onyx. “Another recurring theme throughout”, says Dini, “is the white venetian blinds with matching stitching and the leather wall panelling with a three-dimensional pattern, in the main areas of the yacht like the owner’s cabin and the two saloons”. The Gentleman’s Yacht 33 –and the rest of the range – emphasise TISG Group’s green approach, focussing on materials use, recyling and reducing emissions. In this context the lines of the Gentleman’s Yachts will be optimised for hybrid or electric propulsion – the only options available, in fact. The hull and superstructure will be in aluminium, so no fibreglass, with mahogany and steel surfaces. “The entire yacht-building industry shares the objective of becoming greener. It’s a long road but I think

it’s the right one”, says Constantine. “Our commitment continues. The motoryacht Admiral Kensho, launched in 2022, is now a benchmark for sustainable yacht-building, thanks to its Lloyd’s Register ECO notation and a serial hybrid propulsion system that enables energy consumption to be optimised and emissions, vibration and acoustic pollution to be reduced. The latest new aspect of the Gentleman’s Yacht launch is TISG’s entry into series production. It’s a high-end series, though, intended for a limited clientele, with only ten or so deliveries per year. “In series production, what differentiates the Gentleman’s Yachts by Picchiotti from other Italian brands” says Costantino, “is extremely high standards of detail quality, both inside and out, and refined materials choices. Like all the others, this project aims for excellence”.
