On board Mangusta Oceano 44 the division between interiors and exteriors is blurred and the openair spaces create new areas with increasingly close contact with the water and the yacht’s surroundings. The complete transparency of the side railings creates an upper deck that is unique in this category, and the owner can use it as a lounge area that also be opened to the side or as an owner’s cabin with private terrace.

ight from the outset the brief for the Mangusta Oceano 44 project was to provide a modern interpretation of the successful Mangusta Oceano 43, with new content and a radically revamped style that retained and enhanced the comfort that is a hallmark of Mangusta’s long-distance Oceano line. I designed the interiors and exteriors, starting from a new hull. It was important to be able to imagine the yacht’s overall design from the very start – this enabled me, for example, to manage the transparency of the glass elements, a crucial element of the design board. The huge expanse of floor-to-ceiling windows means the Mangusta Oceano 44 is best described as a penthouse on the sea. The complete transparency of the side railings creates an upper deck that is unique in this category, and the owner can use it as a lounge area that also be opened to the side or as an owner’s cabin with private terrace. In the exteriors I wanted to focus my studio’s attention and the Mangusta engineers’ energy on a total absence of railings on the side walkways – no metal at all, in fact, but a screen that is totally reinterpreted in a glass material to emphasise the infinity concept inspired by the modern penthouses overlooking the sea and coastlines. For the interiors, though, my focus was to create a second owner’s cabin on the upper deck with private aft terrace as if it were a single suite communicating between exterior and interior. With its transparent bulwarks the upper deck seems to float in the air – this detail is more reminiscent of residential architecture, but this did not discourage Mangusta’s engineers from investigating its feasibility, nor did it deter me from defying a number of restrictions with a modern, elegant and innovative stylistic elements.

he Mangusta Oceano 44 is a development of the Mangusta Oceano 43, a highly successful model whose generous interior spaces and exteriors have been retained by the 44, but reinterpreted to create the look of a modern seaside villa with large windows providing an intimate contact with the sea. The type of owner we had in mind when creating this yacht is someone looking for a vessel with spacious interiors and exteriors and a constant contact with the sea. From my point of view the upper deck is a very special area - the saloon and aft deck can be experienced as a single large area and thanks to the glass bulwarks with no posts and the imposing opening windows on three sides of the saloon it seems to be suspended above the sea. At the moment the yard is enjoying a very busy period. We have 24 yachts under construction, 12 of which are to be delivered by next summer. We’re involved in several new projects, but we’ll only release information about them shortly before completion of the first unit.
Mangusta Oceano 44 is a 44.47-metre worldwide yacht with an 8.70-metre beam, steel hull and superstructure. It has a range of 4,500 miles, cruises at 11 knots and has a top speed nudging 16 knots
