It’s the first in Sanlorenzo’s sports line. With a burst of energy the Italian yard launches a 33-metre yacht with striking technological efficiency and innovative layout – it also won in the Innovation Design Awards at the 6th International Boat Show in Genoa

anlorenzo breaks into the sports yacht sector with a seductive, daring open coupé. Boasting an elegant, uncluttered and revolutionary presence, the SP110 brings new technical and design ideas and perspectives to the quay side. Original, with low, sleek lines, it’s 33 metres long and has an 8.2 metre beam. The yacht is the result of a team effort, under the supervision of Tilli Antonelli, involving the yard, the Zuccon International studio, which designed the exteriors, and Piero Lissoni who handled the décor. Another important name in this project is that of Marco Arnaboldi, who created the hull lines. The philosophy behind this model, the first in the new SP (Smart Performance) line, is to generate maximum performance with minimum consumption and provide the liveability of a much larger yacht. Sustainability, comfort, performance and elegance are the key words. The spaces have undergone a radical redesign. Overturning the traditional on-board layout, the exterior dinette with dining area, sofas and sunpads is located forward, leaving space aft for an extremely versatile cockpit of around 50 square metres, a lounge where modular sofas, poufs and sunpads provide total freedom. It’s the heart of on-board life, and a large staircase leads down to the sea. Under the floor is the garage for the tender and water toys. A large glass door provides access to the interiors. Here, the first impression is one of entering a sophisticated, elegant and minimal loft. The decision to lower the main deck allows it to interact with
Sthe lower deck, a space that leads the eye to the cockpit and the sea, and as well as the classic sleeping area with four guest cabins and three crew cabins. To aft there is a lounge connected to the exteriors and the main deck saloon. The main deck hosts a lounge with conversation area, and two panoramic side doors open the dining area out onto the sea. The kitchen and helm station lie further forward, and both display the essential lines that characterise the yacht. As for technology and performance, the results obtained – the yacht’s top speed nudges 40 knots – are the result of a combined focus on engines, hull shape and materials. A hull optimised for hydrojet propulsion and efficient waterlines is powered by three engines, which provide exceptional freedom of use, reduced consumption and various ranges depending on the desired speed, as they can function individually, as a pair or all three together. The double chine hull provides generous width for the wetted surfaces, enabling high performance and comfort to be maintained even in rough seas, as well as making large surfaces available inside and out. Weight and consumption are held down by the use of light materials, including laminated glass in the windows, the almost entirely glazed superstructure and pietra lavica basalt rather than marble in the bathrooms. The solar panels on the coachhouse roof are linked to a bank of lithium ion batteries that can handle the hotel load for several hours without using the generator. sanlorenzoyacht.com

SP110 is your first open coupé. Why this model? In order to grow you have to innovate and introduce new concepts. After the Superyacht Division and the semi-displacement and crossover lines we decided to enter the sports yacht niche market. We introduced a fresh new style of craft, the open coupé. It’s a “smart” craft because we want to offer our clients high performance on an intelligent, responsible basis. Who are your ideal clients? Our clients belong to a circle I like to describe as connoisseurs, people with cultured tastes who can appreciate what Sanlorenzo has to offer – made-to-measure designs, elegance, unique, unmistakeable lines and constant innovation. What are you most proud of in the SP110? The SP110 is the expression of a yard that wants to do something different without distancing itself from its origins. The SP110 is streamlined, powerful, elegant and above all easy to understand. The phrase “high performance” embraces all the yacht’s characteristics – volumes and spaces, interior and exterior usability, flexible layout, propulsion and efficiency.
Given the new models seen at the boat shows and the yachts under construction you seem unstoppable. How do
you see the future? The first half results were excellent and our portfolio of orders enables us not only revise upwards our projected results for the year, it has given us great confidence in our future. Our growth is based on a strategy first outlined almost ten years ago. The main drivers of this development are art, design and innovation within tradition. For the current decade we’ve added more – sustainability, technology, services and the supply chain. These crucial values enable us grow, to progress in a responsible way.
The 73-metre flagship will feature a hybrid diesel-electric system. Is this the solution for a greener future for the
yacht industry? Diesel electric is certainly one of the most realistic solutions for reducing the impact of yachts on the marine ecosystem, as well as being the best green technology currently available. Today’s technology doesn’t allow us to consider full-electric craft as the batteries would take up huge amounts of room. We’re convinced that hydrogen is the fuel of the future. We have close strategic partnerships with international companies like Siemens, MTU and Volvo, with the aim of developing hydrogen propulsion, which we see as the real response for the yacht industry. The first superyacht to use this technology for on-board hotel services will be a 50-metre model set for delivery in 2024.
