Designed with flexibility and charter in mind, the brand new W172 Tri-Deck
editorial I
t was back in 2015 when we officially presented the first issue of The One Yacht & Design at the Dubai International Boat Show.
A new yacht magazine...the nth? Aren’t there enough already? This was the kind of initial comment we heard at the stands in the show, populated by yard reps, designers and sector professionals. But when we demonstrated the project in detail, we soon began to hear Not bad, though... it’s good-looking, rich and elegant. Definitely different from the others. And the glossy mag we presented in Dubai was just the first stage of the project – it was soon followed by the www.theoneyd.com portal, updated every day with news from the sector and a digital version of all the articles, downloadable and distributable via email. The brand was also developed on the Linkedin, Facebook and Instagram social media platforms. This was followed by the development of a newsletter system drawing on our database, which continues to grow month by month. The QR codes in the magazine also provide access to videos of the yachts featured in the print edition. We lived through the stormy times of the lockdown, which blocked us from developing and staging events dedicated to on-board design, events that now, on our 10th anniversary, we are getting set to present. All this has been made possible with the contribution of the expert collaborators we’ve shared the project with over the past ten years. I offer my heartfelt thanks for their support and professionalism. Happy 10th to The One Yacht & Design ! Enjoy your reading!

[ FIVE QUESTIONS TO... ]
MATTEO MAGNI PRESIDENT OF SACS TECNORIB by Paola Bertelli
As a go-to player in the sector, how do you see the 2024 market and the near future for the RIB and maxi-RIB market? Over time, with consistency and practical effort, we’ve given a big boost to the maxi-RIB sector. We’ve managed to create and maintain a high-end, distinctive positioning that has enabled us to carve out a high-profile role. The maxi-RIB sector still has a lot to say. There are two engines driving its growth – having a clear focus on controlling the geographical areas and key markets for this type of craft and looking towards the performance chase boat sector, which is a niche that’s producing some interesting results. That’s why we’re confident and ready to take on the new challenges presented by the market. When will the expansion of your production site in Roncello be complete? The expansion was a necessary part of the group’s development, enabling us to take another step forward, from construction to quality control. The 8,000 square metres of the new facility are dedicated to boats 45 feet long and over. The facility will be fully operational this spring. At Düsseldorf we saw the new PIRELLI X350 and X400 jet tenders. What are their strong points? These new tenders launch the gamma X line, which will complement the J Line. They have a revamped layout to enhance comfort, functionality and versatility, provided
14
by a series of features and accessories. A huge range of personalisation options, from the tubes to seating fabric, gives a touch of uniqueness and highlights the style. As well as standing out for their size – 3.5 metres for the X350 and 4 metres for the X400 – they are notable for the number of seats and ability to adapt to the garage on a large number of yachts. What will we be seeing from the collaboration with the German tuner Mansory? Creating synergies and initiating this type of collaboration is in our DNA. We’ve done a lot of limited editions with prestigious partners. We have several points of affinity with Mansory – an orientation towards the client and a desire to fulfil demands, even if they’re pretty extravagant, and an ambition to make unique, exclusive objects. The partnership will inspire a limited series of PIRELLI 42s that we’ll present at Dubai in late February 2024. What do you envisage as a sustainable approach for your sector and how are you moving in this direction? Sustainability is a central theme we’re devoting constant and growing attention to. It involves in-house process, supplies and manufactoring process, and the new site has been developed and built to the highest standards. It’s also a key theme in the development of existing products and new lines that we’re devoting a lot of thought to. It’s an asset and a heritage for the company, not just an obligation and an ethical commitment.

[ DESIGN DISTRICT ] ANGELO BATTISTA SALES DIRECTOR SUNBRELLA ITALY by Veronica Lempi
For over fifty years Sunbrella has been offering high-performance furnishing and marine fabrics with distinctive looks, durability, comfort and outstanding technical performance. The new Sunbrella Marine 2024/2027 collection celebrates nature through its designs and production processes with a collection featuring almost 200 items.
16
What are the most important characteristics of Sunbrella Marine collection 2024/2027? With our new collection we sought to continue along the path taken by the brand several years ago, expressed through a closeness to nature – for us it’s a source of inspiration in fabric design, but this approach also involves production processes with a lower impact and technical performance that provides comfort and durability. Our designers draw inspiration from nature to create almost 200 items that celebrate its colours. The aim is to redefine the sensations of sailing. As a result the main themes are high technical performance, aesthetics, personalisation and sustainability. What are the trends influencing marine fabrics? Reliability and personalisation. Clients want long-lasting products that provide enduring comfort and can withstand the stress of outdoor conditions. Our fabrics respond to these requirements. Opportunities for personalisation are a great plus offered by Sunbrella – different ranges in our collection can be combined, enabling the use of a variety of textile elements on board a yacht to reflect stylistic needs. Our fabrics are designed to fulfil specific requirements and clad seating, cushions, biminis and sunshades, as well as providing the ideal solution protective covers. What area does Sunbrella devote most of its research to? Our experience in cutting-edge research and development enables us to create a constant stream of new solutions that combine technical performance and aesthetic quality. Take Horizon, our first synthetic leather range – as well as having a very elegant look it is resistant to mould, stains, bacteria, extreme temperatures and fading as well as offering outstanding shape retention. Knit Loop on the other hand is an incredibly soft, flexible knitted fabric whose 3D texture gives it impeccable fit and enables it to be adapted to all shapes, which means fewer seams and less stitching. Which innovation is Sunbrella most proud of? In 2023 we presented the Endless Stories collection, soon also to be available in the Marine collection. It’s based on the experience we’ve gained over the past ten years in the production of recycled fabrics. These fabrics contain 50% solution-dyed recycled fabric obtained directly from production plants. They are then mixed with virgin Sunbrella yarns to ensure quality. The result is a fabric with vintage charm, rich colour, soft feel and excellent presentation. In the context of fabrics for on-board protection, we’re very proud to have made Seamark available on the European market. Seamark is a must-have product for protection in extreme weather conditions. It provides total protection against heavy rain, sunlight and other natural hazards. These days durability is the hallmark of companies. How much does it count for you? Our fabrics are solution dyed, which means that the pigments penetrate the fibres when the acrylic is still in a liquid state. As a result our yarns boast colour with exceptional hold, resistance and durability. Solution-dyed fibres are dyed throughout, making them resistant to the passage of time, UV rays and fading even after prolonged exposure to sunlight, salt water and chlorine. They are not subject to rot, discolouration or ageing. As they do not have to be replaced as often as traditional fabrics our fabrics generate less waste. Producing Sunbrella fabrics demands less electrical energy, fewer chemicals and less water (up to five times less than with traditional dyeing processes). This is how we protect the future – by taking action now.

NUCLEAR POWER: FEAR AND AN OUTDATED LEGACY
by Andrea Pezzini, CEO & Co-Founder of Floating Life
F
or quite some time now I have been researching the cleanest, most efficient propulsion for our designs. I have spent the little free time I have seeking out alternatives to the old-fashioned, expensive mineral oil. I have moved from vegetable oils to gas and hydrogen, which I abandoned in 2017, to studying non-polluting natural resources like the sun, wind and wave power. But nothing has convinced me or helped slake the thirst for energy a yacht will have as part of its normal life. I was already frustrated by failure and nights spent reading and pretty much ready to fall back on the costly but ever-reliable Diesel when I read a very interesting article on batteries made using nuclear principles. I struggled to be positive about this subject as I have taken an anti-nuclear stance for many years. However, after some further investigation I have to admit my ignorance became clear. I attended a session on the subject at the Superyacht Forum in Amsterdam and I was very impressed.
Further research is beginning to emerge and I think I will remain fascinated in the coming years by the subject. The only downside is general ignorance about a complex and highly politicised area and the bureaucratic difficulties that will surely be encountered. There aren’t, for instance, any ports in the Mediterranean that can take “regular” nuclear-powered boats. Lürssen, the Bermuda flag and RINA presented some information on the subject and its future application in the yachting world, at the Amsterdam event. However, there were very few attendees but I did hear a lot of sceptical comments from people who hadn’t been there. So, I am now wondering whether our nautical sector is ready for this new technology or will we, as usual, sit back and wait for others to do the work, for it to become less controversial before investing resources and technical prowess in this incredible and little-known source of power?
Will these words simply hurled against the wind as always?

outique Italian yard Tankoa is building a new 56m custom superyacht for a genuinely creative American client. The amazingly skilled Alberto Mancini took his inspiration for the new Tankoa T560 Apache from his T760 Apache design. In fact, both he and the yard relished the chance to fit 76 metres of innovation into a more compact package whilst retaining similarly sleek, elegant proportions and volumes normally found on 1,000 GT-plus yachts. They pulled off this coup by cleverly maximizing the interior volumes, resulting in a charming beach-style retreat. Mancini also freed up the upper deck by shifting the main helm, allowing the 50 sqm master suite take pride of place forward. It also, by the way, offers a massive private terrace complete with 5.5m flying pool and an en plein air lounge area with a fire pit. Further aft, the upper saloon leads out to a large upper aft terrace with al fresco dining for 12. On the deck below that, communal guest areas are beach-chic casual with a comfortable aft saloon and a convertible forward dining area. The five guest suites, a full-beam VIP and four luxe two-berths, lie forward on the main deck – a genuine rarity in this size category. www.tankoa.it

The new products from VISIONNAIRE express a world of softness. The new Bomber sofa by Alessandro La Spada and the Shibari armchair designed by Studiopepe are examples of this (on show with “L’Impero dei Sensi” at the Wunderkammer Visionnaire). Bomber, with soft, tubular volumes, is an invitation to relaxation and recalls the fashion world with contemporary, sophisticated curved shapes. The Shibari chair designed by Studiopepe for Visionnaire has arms in stretch fabric or leather and recycled wool upholstery – a complement that celebrates the innumerable symbolic meanings - some sacred – related to the knot in history, including immortality, divination and faithfulness.

he town of Pietrasanta, Tuscany, hosted an intense design weekend last autumn, with a series of exhibitions, encounters and events, including some sporting clashes. Architects, designers and furnishing companies came together in the artistic heart of Versilia, a magical region that is a benchmark for art and design and an increasingly important meeting place for encounters
between artists and sculptors from all over the world. This year in its second edition, the Design Week End in Versilia is a format created by Studio Coronel in collaboration with the local authorities of Pietrasanta under the patronage of ADI, the Association for Industrial Design, and the Order of Architects of Lucca. It brings together the best of the experiences of the Milan Design Week, and found first in Courmayeur, where the third edition of the event has just ended, then in Pietrasanta the perfect settings for a highly productive spread and exchange of ideas.
The long weekend in Pietrasanta featured a packed programme of events on the subject of design, architecture, sport and networking, with talks, exhibitions and even a regatta and volleyball match. All in all these events provided a showcase for the most important design studios and the best design brands, enabling them to share ideas and projects. The theme chosen for the occasion by Paola

Coronel, the event’s founder and art director, was “The Propagation of Ideas”. It was also an interesting starting point for the round table organized by The ONE Yacht and Design - the Pietrasanta event marked the consolidation of a fruitful collaboration creating synergies between the worlds of yacht building and design. “Planing ideas, displacement ideas – the physics of creativity”. This was the subject of a panel where the experiences of the furnishing world were interwoven with those of the Italian yacht-building industry. These two worlds have initiated an increasingly important dialogue in this energy-fuelled setting, sharing the pleasure of living in comfort and style. The round table saw the participation of Vincenzo Poerio, CEO of Tankoa Yachts, Federico Rossi, CEO of Rossi Navi, Valentina Gandini, CEO of Mylius Yacht and Fabio Ermetto, CCO of Baglietto. Their contributions provided fascinating insights for the large contingent of designers in the room, including Leonardo Allasia, global marketing & communication director of Poltrona Frau, Stefania Ferrari, Digital & Marketing Manager of Driade & FontanaArte and Andrea Citterio, CEO of Penta/Arredoluce/Castaldi. These guests presented experiences and corporate stories that have had a significant effect on the yacht and furnishing worlds.

“Yachts are chosen for their external lines and loved for their interior spaces, which increasingly resemble those of a terrestrial residence”, says Federico Rossi, “These days people are seeking ever more exciting experiences on board yachts”. “Interiors and exteriors used to be distinct, but now the aim now is to create large, continuous spaces”, says Vincenzo Poerio. “Yachts are increasingly ‘open’, creating a seamless space comprising interior and exterior, a typical feature of the way space is used in architecture. They are unique works created by design teams that involve a close collaboration between architects and engineers”. Mylius has worked for some time with the Parisotto Formento studio, which designs the interiors of its yachts, and Valentina Gandini described the importance of architecture, connections and materials. “In sail yachts it’s crucial to choose lightweight materials that provide performance. For us yachts are a sort of loft within a carbon fibre container. Fabio Ermetto spoke about “long seller” projects and products, saying “Baglietto has always created timeless, distinctive craft with a modern, not extreme design. We recently delivered a yacht that’s just the latest example of a model type that was first built 18 years ago and is still being produced”.

The theme of the durability of a product is closely linked to sustainability, also of great interest to the furnishing industry. Green, long seller products were also discussed by Leonardo Allasia of Poltrona Frau, a company founded more than a hundred years ago that has created various design icons that are still in production and that has strong liaison with the yachting industry. Stefania Ferrari, Digital & Marketing Manager of Driade & FontanaArte, brought the experience of one of Italy’s most eclectic brands and Andrea Citterio, CEO of Penta/Arredoluce/Castaldi concluded with his point of view linked to the economy, analysing the entire lifecycle of a successful idea. All these contributions held the audience’s attention and resulted in the formation of new relationships. The third edition of the winter event in Courmayeur is just over (from 1st to 4th February 2024), “And who knows?”, says Paola Coronel, the driving spirit of the event, “Next year we may see a third stage in a location that for now remains top secret”.

the day area on the aft lower deck. Sanlorenzo has created a sea-level saloon, unusual on a yacht of this size. The space, enclosed to the sides by long windows, is to all intents and purposes an interior, so no watertight door separates it from the rest of the spaces, with the huge advantage that once the sliding window aft has been opened and the side terraces are open to the sea it is only a few centimetres from the water and can be enjoyed in symbiosis with the beach area. An interior staircase in the form of a metal band that is a pure architectural element links it to the main deck, creating a single magnificent day area on two levels. A second interior staircase, concealed by sliding panels that also hide storage areas, links the main and upper decks. In the main deck saloon the two sofas backing on to the windows leave the central area free. This integrates with the large cockpit, where a large oval sofa with centre backrest faces aft and towards the sea (the glass balustrade creates the infinity effect) and towards the saloon. The upper deck hosts the sleek, open helm station, and the saloon/dining has been designed to be experienced in an “in or out” configuration. When the hard top and aft doors have been opened and the long side windows lowered, the confines between exterior and interior become less distinct and the saloon and terrace become more similar to a sun deck than an upper deck, an impression enhanced by the similar teak finishes in the two spaces. The lower deck hosts the kitchen and sleeping area with three guest cabins with direct access to the lounge and beach area aft. The owner’s cabin is on the forward main deck. The long window forward and the side windows allow light to flood the interior and be reflected by the metal-trimmed glass bulkheads of the walk-in wardrobe and bathroom. A door provides direct access to the sun lounge forward. The five crew move around on separate walkways from the guests. As we are now used to seeing from Sanlorenzo, the SX100 is a highly customisable yacht in its layouts and interior décor. Lissoni has proposed a configuration that emphasises the spaces and eliminates any overlap in roles, with a kitchen on the lower deck and master cabin on the main deck. All possible options, though, remain in the owner’s hands. www.sanlorenzoyacht.com

X100 was inspired by the belief that the yachts of today can be thought of as versatile platforms offering large spaces. From a stylistic point of view, the SX100 has a strong design identity created by drawing on and rethinking all the languages that the SX have developed in recent years, all of which reflect a tight family feeling. Within the SX range, this model brings the ability to optimise on-board content. In a market where demand takes many forms, being diversified and multicultural, a project offering an open stern that is actually a blank sheet where the owner can interpret the space in terms of his or her requirements
56
and behaviour, provides a significant opportunity. With the SX100 we decided to further enhance the aft lower deck space by dedicating it to the day area that all guests can enjoy. It was developed along the lines of functional integration and offset decks. This is another step foward in reflecting the living concept that has influenced all our design work over recent years. We returned to the concept already tried out on the Alloy 44 of diversifying the spaces with different headrooms – in this case the day area is laid out on two connected levels, creating a new dual function for the two lounges. The aft beach club offers access to a lounge with large window,

The spacious beach area is connected to the main deck cockpit by an external staircase with only six steps
linked in turn to the three guest cabins by a corridor and to the main deck upper saloon by a staircase. Freed from the helm station, now on the upper deck, the bow section of the main deck is now a private space for the owner. All in all, the SX100 offers its owner great freedom, a requirement the market is increasingly emphasising, presenting itself as a versatile product that we hope will prove to be commercially successful.

he SX100 is another architectural project, an addition to the SX family – it has similar characteristics to its bigger brothers but uses a different language. The proportions have changed, we’ve included some surprises. In contrast to other projects, on this yacht the connections aren’t provided by a continuous staircase, but two staircases with different aesthetics – one, linking the lower deck to the main deck, is in pleated steel. It is more sculptural and becomes the core of the entire design, while the other is very naval, with slender cantilevered steps. It is concealed by a sliding wooden partition that links the main to the fly deck. It’s invisible – if you don’t go looking for it, it’s not there. It appears if you open the screens, and then the spaces reconnect as if in an architectural duplex. As usual, we’ve paid attention to every little detail. Nothing is left to chance. The distinctive feature of the lower deck lounge is that though it is enclosed and integrates with the exterior spaces of the beach club, it makes it larger. At the same time it’s an intimate, private lounge on a lower level than the beach platform. The stairs also connect it directly to the main deck and cabin corridor. It’s a sort of interchange, in fact. I like everything about this yacht. There’s a wonderful interaction between the spaces, the transparencies you find everywhere on the yacht that link interior and exterior. And I love going up and down the stairs!
Left, the lower deck beach lounge with an intriguing play of reflections on the mirrored walls. On this level there are three guest cabins. Opposite page, one of the VIP cabins and its bathroom. Essential design for the command console on the upper deck. The SX100 is equipped with four 800 hp Volvo IPS engines and has a cruising speed of 20 knots and top speed of 23 knots. At 10 knots it has a range of 1,600 miles
ithin the SX range the SX100 provides a wellbalanced solution, fitting smoothly between the SX88 and SX112. In particular, it offers the opportunity to locate the owner’s cabin on the main deck, optimising vertical connections, capitalising the experience of many SX88 owners who, have contributed their experience in a dialogue with the yard to develop successful functional, aesthetic solutions. Based on this the product has all the right characteristics for modern owners who also love comfort and living in close contact with the sea. SX100 owners tend to be young but they are also lovers of the sea and expert yacht users. The unique layout of the SX100 makes it possible to experience the spaces to the full in the company of the guests. The dialogue between shared spaces and areas intended or the private use of owners is accentuated, making this model perfect for sharing with friends and family. The choice to integrate the lower deck lounge saloon is inspired by the need and desire for a comfortable, versatile environment in close contact with the sea. The concept restates the concept already applied on the SX112, influenced by one of the main features of the existing model SX110 – a spacious day area comprising a covered lounge saloon and attractive transparencies blends on the outside with the extensive, well-equipped beach area and with two spacious side terraces that open out onto the sea. The layout of the SX100 provides constant communication between interiors and exteriors, offering owners unprecedented customisation opportunities. The lines and complex design reflect the project’s emphasis on structural and technical spaces. Precise structural calculations enabled the yard to adopt construction details combined with the unique, minimal design of the SX range. The semi-planing hull enables the yacht to reach a speed of 23 knots with ease, maintaining high performance in pure displacement.

Some press tours are so intense and exclusive they are simply unforgettable. The ONE Yacht & Design recently had the honour of being invited to The Racing Experience | Nautor Swan x Porsche, a two-day event packed with exciting moments. Promoted by Porsche Italy, it was organised in collaboration with Nautor Swan, a Finnish luxury sail yacht brand, to highlight its links with the world of water sport. This exclusive event encouraged us to think about the points of contact between cars, yachts, land and sea - in other words, prestige, performance, design and respect for the environment. It was held at the 5-star Andana resort, and our experience began here in Castiglione della Pescaia, 20 km from Grosseto in the Tenuta La Badiola in Tuscany’s Maremma district 500 hectares studded with olive groves and vineyards, all surrounded by gentle hills in a rural landscape that also enjoys the beneficial influence of Its closeness to the sea. We soon discovered the wonderful versatility offered by these models. The allelectric Taycan Cross Turismo is ideal for everyday travel, but it’s also the perfect solution for long journeys and off-road adventures, with its adaptive height-adjustable pneumatic suspension and gravel mode for the most demanding road surfaces. It was hard to relinquish the wheel after an entire day’s road testing, including a stop at the Azienda Agricola Roccapesta to enjoy some local agricultural produce. In a dialogue between land and sea, the experience continued the following day with a trip on board the elegant Swan 78, a cruiser racer whose design incorporates the modern requirements of owners who seek to sail in safety amid the most elegant comfort but also want the kind of performance that enables them to take part in some high-power races. Its kind owner made her available for the tour journalists as an extraordinary viewing platform, providing a close-up view of a thrilling race. This year Porsche Italy has for the first time lent its support to ClubSwan Racing, Nautor Swan’s sports division, for the Italian stages of the prestigious “Swan One Design Nations League 2023” race. he aim behind the exterior design of Maiora Exuma 35 was to create neat external lines that could embrace the immense internal spaces and volumes, giving soft but sleek and sporty shapes. The external lines are harmonious and deliberately inspired by nature. The idea was to recall the concept of the islands and the fact that they are embraced by the surrounding sea. The exterior design is a combination of an SUV and a sports car: the lines are surrounding beautiful spaces and define so smoothly the perimeter of each space dedicated to the owner and guests on board. The aft area is a unique continuum between the aft main deck, with its own al-fresco dining, and the aft beach area. Owners and guests want to spend the majority of the time between inside and outside with no boundaries. The convertible flybridge is a little gem. You can enjoy it with air conditioning on days when the weather conditions are hot or unpleasant, or even when you are looking for more privacy. Or it can become a traditional flybridge thanks to the amazing aft infinity door, which disappears completely, and the two side windows that go up and down, as well as the large sunroof that slides away. This model was designed, together with her owners, with a precise purpose and a well-defined philosophy: the concept of organic shapes, warm materials and the combination of highly tactile and contrasting elements. It is a truly unique product and we were extremely happy to receive so many expressions of appreciation from customers, professionals and other shipyards.

ather than give a structured initial brief for the interior design of Pesa II, it was mainly about sharing my tastes and making available to Next Yacht Group’s Centro Stile the experience I have gained over the years. This is how the design concept for this yacht came to life. Thanks to several meetings involving myself, my staff and the shipyard’s architects, we were able to develop a fully-custom project that, just like a bespoke garment, epitomised – in perfect shapes, proportions, colour shades and volumes – all the insights and inspirations I have come across in my career. Villas, hotels, restaurants, and previous interior design projects I was directly in charge of provided the ideal substrate for the Pesa II project. Pesa II is characterised by an exquisite formal consistency that unravels throughout the interior and exterior areas thanks to the skilful use of a warm palette and the rounded, organically geometric shapes of custom furniture.

through the waves efficiently and a completely open stern, the yacht combines stunning sporty performances with the pleasure of living at sea in extremely versatile spaces. Impressive performances are ensured by the innovative hull design and a propulsion system with three water jets powered by three MTU 2000HP engines. Water-jet propulsion – which Next Yacht Group have been installing on their crafts for thirty years – offers a number of advantages. Not only higher speeds rarely found on yachts of this size, but also a wider range of cruising modes, always ensuring efficiency and reduced emissions and consumption. The system also
enables excellent manoeuvrability and very limited draft of four feet, offering the exclusive pleasure of exploring the Mediterranean and Caribbean without any constraints and peacefully immersed in nature. Comfort was certainly another focus during the design, which resulted in the use of the most advanced soundproofing technologies and the installation of an automated trim control system by Humphree and two gyro stabilizers to reduce rolling in all possible sea conditions. This unit will also ensure a silent night’s sleep thanks to lithium battery package.

out on the subject of Berthe Morisot (1841-1895), whose status as the leading female Impressionist painter is now emphasised
by a series of exhibitions. One of these is a show at London’s Dulwich Picture Gallery, previously hosted at the Musée d’Orsay and then, in 2010, at the Fondation Beyeler in the context of an exhibition dedicated to female artists who have had a great influence on modern painting. The Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris welcomed it in 2021 as part of an exhibition dedicated to her daughter Julie Manet, held until 31st March 2024. The exhibition entitled Berthe Morisot et l’art du XVIIIe siècle. Watteau, Boucher, Fragonard, Perronneau is an in-depth investigation of the painter’s life and work, highlighting an aesthetic theme inspired by famous 18th-century painters but expressed through the sensibilities of her time. This seems to be linked to the friendship between her family (her father, Tiburce Morisot, was a civil servant who played an important role in the creation of the Limoges museums) and the Reseniers, an artistic dynasty descended from Jean-Henri Riesener, a great 18th-century cabinet maker. Berthe was a friend of Rosalie, daughter of the artist Léon Resenier, who influenced Berthe and directed her especially towards Antoine Watteau and François Boucher. Morisot was also influenced by other artists of the same period like Jean-Honoré Fragonard (once said to be her great grandfather, although this claim has since been discredited), Maurice Quentin Delatour and Jean-Baptiste Perronneau. Immersed in an intensely artistic environment, Berthe became a friend of the painter Édouart Manet and married his brother Eugene. This was the world in 101

years with Azimut Benetti as head of style at the Viareggio yard. For Pulina, working with Azimut Benetti was an all-round experience, instilling him with both professional and personal values. “I learnt about the importance of working in a team, how essential it is to dialogue with everyone involved in the process to handle unexpected glitches and find the best solutions”. Starting at the sea and arriving on land, Pulina has taken the opposite path to most starchitects. “The sea is my passion, it entertains me, challenges me, stimulates me. It wasn’t difficult for me to move from maritime business to land-based projects. Designing for yachts teaches you to optimise spaces and select the right dimensions. Essential on board, less so in a house – it can take, for example, second place to style. It’s an approach that has enabled me to see things differently, sometimes reshaping existing residential projects”. Pulina Exclusive Interiors’ design philosophy is based not only on operational and strategic theories but also real personal values the founder shares every day with his team – flexibility, fluidity, responsibility, sharing ideas, diversification and the ability to communicate. But above all, rapidity is fundamental for Pulina, a crucial value for quality work. “I always remind my team that our approach is based on flexibility, which enables us to work fast and meet our clients’ requirements. We always keep the dialogue tight – it must be fast, flowing and satisfying. We have to know how to listen. We are lucky that we have to investigate manifold cultures and we do it in the Italian style, we don’t give up and we put ourselves forward as problem solvers. always a simple task – we do so with determination, seeking the best solution. It’s something that’s appreciated abroad, a hallmark of Made in Italy expertise and flair. Confirming that personalisation is the is the guiding principle of contemporary design, Pulina explains that the aesthetic of luxury is now inherent in the skilful use of materials and reinterpreting spaces, no longer reflecting a traditional layout, on board or in a home, but aspiring to unexpected solutions with new common areas devoted to quality time. ur focus in developing the INFYNITO 90 was to offer guests an unprecedented yachting experience. Our design strategy focused on the people who will be living on board, putting human experience at the centre of the creative process. We asked ourselves what could still surprise and satisfy the increasingly sophisticated expectations of owners who want to live on board in more versatile and comfortable ways. This approach led us to explore innovative forms and functions,

inventing new spaces and ways to enjoy the yacht. Our vision in creating the exterior design was guided by a desire to capture the adventurous and dynamic essence of the boat. INFYNITO 90’s exterior aesthetic is one of clean, modern lines and a design that brings together elements of elegance and sportiness. The flowing curves create a sensation of harmony and equilibrium. As this is a product with impressive spaces, we had to find the right equation of volumes and forms. The two fashion plates midships represent a turning point in our design journey and showcase an innovative and provocative concept, one capable of redefining the traditional paradigms in naval design. The decision to put them in this position is a bold idea that aesthetically joins the two exterior decks while also highlighting two fundamental characteristics: the revolutionary forward terrace and the spacious stern deck. This also creates a sense of verticality, counterpointing the sinuous and horizontal forms of the decks. Our approach to design in this range tends towards modernity without embracing minimalism. We’re looking for an elegance that’s provocative without being banal. The presence of the two fashion plates is a statement of intent: to create a yacht that’s not only aesthetically striking but tells a story and arouses curiosity.

he INFYNITO 90 presented us with a new challenge because the requirements for internal-external interconnection were practically doubled. The forward terrace creates a new dynamic in terms of both passenger flow and how the bow area is used, and we realised we’d have to model a different space – one that could interact equally well with both bow and stern sections. Hence a new layout that doesn’t create physical or visual confines anywhere on the main deck. The project’s central theme is a pondered use of materials, without layering too many finishes, and enriching with discreet cabinetry detailing. The choice of materials reflects the mission to achieve a sustainability that’s substantial and perceived. The fabrics, wood and finishing materials are eco-compatible, recycled and recyclable, and they’ve been chosen with a view to weight saving. There’s an ever-greater focus on energy efficiency too. A special design effort was made to optimise the air conditioning and lighting systems. This yacht’s uncluttered linear design, the soft feel of the ceilings, the vertical dynamic of the brushstrokes and the freestanding furniture are all stylistic features of the range as a whole. Nothing jars with the rational, solid and practical spirit that is intrinsic in all Ferretti Yachts boats. The influence from home furnishing design is quite clear. The key ideas are understatement, clean lines, softness and an equilibrium of forms and materials, without ever lapsing into minimalism, and featuring ergonomics and spatial distribution that are both informal and versatile. The upholstery and coverings are characterised by soft radial patterns that transmit positivity and softness, while the reflections in the mirror walls produce the project’s signature sense of spatial ‘infinity’, even in the most unlikely spaces.

‘F
urther than you can Sea’ is the concept underpinning INFYNITO 90 and it perfectly expresses the defining characteristics of this new project: a focus on the environment, extensive customisation, unprecedented layout innovations and visual continuity between interiors and exteriors. With the INFYNITO 90, Ferretti Yachts has embraced the owner’s perspective in order to imagine and create a new and superior yachting experience. We imagine owners with a profound love of the sea and nature, which they want to enjoy to the fullest while feeling at home on board, in total comfort and without sacrificing privacy. They want to be able to enjoy the sea year-round in any conditions, not only during the summer season when the weather is fine. Thanks to the All-Season Terrace they can. As such, the INFYNITO range is conceived to enable owners to enjoy onboard life as if the yacht were an extension of their home, a place in which to breathe light and where the dialogue between interior and exterior produces a sensation of total satisfaction. With the INFYNITO 90, we have achieved an important goal: we’ve managed to integrate materials and elements into the design of a boat that are innovative in terms of sustainability but also maintain the ‘Just Like Home’ characteristics typical of Ferretti Yachts, offering the market a truly different proposition. Ferretti Yachts’ INFYNITO 90 is a one-of-a-kind yacht designed to offer the experience of life at sea in a sustainable way and with personalisation at every level. With INFYNITO 90 – the first model in the INFYNITO range – we wanted to chart a new course, first and foremost for Ferretti Yachts the brand, but also for yachting in general.
For Ferretti Yachts, the characteristics that underpin the INFYNITO 90 include a focus on the environment, extensive customisation, unprecedented layout innovations, and visual continuity between interiors and exteriors. The bridge features a Simrad Command integrated dashboard

Founded in 1956, the Verona-based company, which specialises in natural stone products, is now the world leader in offering select collections of stone pieces, using raw material from the world’s most important extraction sites. Antolini takes natural stone and then shapes and enhances it so it becomes unique means of expression with fascinating colours, the type of product now in demand for high-end interior design. Their great expressive power has also attracted the attention of the fashion and art worlds, encouraging the brand to try its hand in unusual areas, creating a series of sometimes surprising applications. A collaboration between Antolini and interior designer Alessandro La Spada has resulted in a first tableware capsule collection in Irish Green marble, part of the Exclusive Collection that has led the company to

become the go-to brand for prestigious natural stone. The unexpected material chosen by Antolini for the collection is usually destined for tops and furnishings, but here this primordial material in seductive light and dark shades of green with white veining is used to convey a sense of taste and conviviality. The translucent colour is highlighted even further by rose gold plated elements. The tableware capsule is intended to create a precious, exclusive dining experience, with table settings, place markers, serving trays, wine coolers and stands complemented by floor-standing wine coolers, bread stick holders, caviar set and butter dishes. The collection is designed to emphasise dining pleasure by appealing to the emotions and aesthetic sense. The result is a mise en place rendered exclusive by its materials, attention to detail and innovative design concept.

the search for continuity and broadened perspectives found
Design stepped on board during the Monaco Yacht Show where ACE was presented for the first time, just after visiting a 50-metre yacht of a similar type. Despite the yacht’s 44.5 metre length and displacement of 497 GT we felt as if we were on a much larger superyacht: we were immediately impressed by the light, tranquil and extremely liveable interior volumes, achieved through details and solutions that reflect the great efforts made by the entire team. ACE is the first in the Conrad C144S line by Conrad Shipyard, a boutique yard that builds high-end sail and motor yachts based on the work of an outstanding international team work that includes Britain’s Reymond Langton studio for the external lines, Diana Yacht Design in Holland for the hull, the Milanbased m2atelier studio for the interiors, styling and layout of the exterior areas and Nicolai Yacht Consulting & Project Management as consultants and owner’s representative. In line with the owner’s specific requirements, ACE is a contemporary yacht with a sober, elegant, informal style inside and powerful, dynamic lines outside, creating a yacht that is sure to exert a timeless, enduring appeal. ACE is laid out over three decks. The main deck hosts the saloon with spacious conversation area but without a dining area, welcoming guests in a relaxing atmosphere with full-height windows that enhance the marine experience. Mirrored ceiling and wall panels open up the space, the light fabric and ceiling colours contrast with the dark details of the floor slats and metal. Guests will move smoothly throughout the interiors of the ACE, with a wide corridor linking the saloon and master cabin.
throughout the yacht, helped by the retracting, full-height sliding doors that provide seamless continuity between the spaces (as Marijana Radovic of m2atelier says, this kind of sliding door is intended to remain open, to connect rather than divide) and the careful effort lavished on alignments, proportions and openings. The staircase also enjoy plenty of space, with floating soft leather steps and wooden walls. This distinctive structure stands in the corridors and leads to the upper deck, where guests cross an asymmetrical lounge with a large L-shaped sofa and a bookcase unit that conceals the TV behind a leather panel with raised striped to enter the exterior dining area and lower deck that hosts the four guest cabins and four crew cabins. The captain’s quarters are on the upper deck. The heart of the sun deck is the pool area integrated into the structure, surrounded by a lively play of footboards and steps. At night this deck transforms into an open-air cinema. The purity and elegance of the design is also reflected by meticulously achieved details like the air-conditioning grilles camouflaged by light decorations in veneer-clad aluminium strips, invisible darkening curtains and the use of only a few, carefully-worked materials like oak, teak, marble, leather, fabrics and metal. The builders and designers have also succeeded in locating a separate control room in ACE’s engine room, a feature usually found only on much larger yachts. This technical detail emphasises the intense care paid to every aspect of this design.

his project was the result of a successful collaboration between Conrad Shipyard and Reymond Langton. After the much-praised launch of the 40m Viatoris in 2018, Mikolaj offered us the chance to work with them once again on a larger 44m - Project Ace. As the previous exterior design for Conrad was so well received we were asked to adopt a similar and familiar approach to the styling – however, we were also free to evolve the design. With the plumb bow, Ace already gave us stronger lines and a more modern appearance. Together with the snow white & gloss black colour scheme, she’s timeless. The contrasting snow white hull & superstructure on the gloss black of the deckhouses and hull window band, which discreetly conceal the large window apertures, give the vessel a distinctive graphic profile, while the X detail midship harnesses a sense of power, purpose and direction. The design studio’s signature undercut “rolling wave” on the superstructure reflects the sky above and the water below, simultaneously casting captivating shadows on the decks as the sun moves across the sky. It is a dynamic, feminine, sharp yacht with a bold, striking silhouette. Proportionally pleasing to the eye at from every angle, carefully considered sweeping lines and fine sculpted details emerge as you approach the yacht. We always aim to have a harmonious connection between the interior & exterior. We worked closely with m2atelier, incorporating, for example, their request for bigger windows in places to complement the stunning interior. The transitions between interior & exterior spaces work very well. My favorite place on board? The Sun deck with its very generous layout, as it feels like you’re on board a much larger yacht.

T
he client had asked us to build a modern, functional and attractive yacht. We worked on interpreting the essence of contemporary life in the context of a yacht’s spaces, defying the conventions and rigid standards usually associated with nautical design. We decided to minimise, shift or rethink all the installations and solutions that in some way compromised the relaxed, functional and contemporary environment we were striving to create. This reworking didn’t simply take the form of eliminating these functions – it was a more subtle revision where everything that was anachronistic or not strictly necessary was subjected to a critical analysis. The yacht’s original layout was more standard. We worked on the openings, alignments, the perspectives, spatial continuity and proportions to enhance the overall perception of space. The feeling as you enter is that of being on a larger vessel. There are three key concepts in this project – fluidity, essentiality and continuity.
The solutions developed for ACE exemplify our yacht design philosophy – great informal flexibility, crisp elegance, clean shapes, openness to the outside with perspectives that bring the sea closer rather than shutting it out. Occupants can experience the yacht in absolute freedom, in a unique, utterly personal way. Our favourite areas on the yacht are the sundeck and master cabin. The sun deck is an extremely comfortable space, split into specific areas for every need without comprising the panoramic view. We chose to empty it as far as possible of fixed furnishings and to make it modular so it can be used in a free, relaxed way. The master cabin features distinctive stylistic solutions like the generous windows, furniture that seems to float above the floor and the marble-clad bathroom. This cabin embodies a balance between comfort and lightness, with suspended elements and a sensation of reduced gravity.

he ConradC144s ACE is not only the largest yacht in Conrad’s history, it’s also the largest private superyacht ever built in Poland. For us, she represents evolution, another milestone in our history. She’s also the first yacht to go into series production, even though ACE was initially intended to be a one-off, which means she is unique enough to attract more buyers. Hull number two is set for launch in March 2024, hull number three is planned for spring 2024 and hull number four is already for sale. ACE was designed for a client who had chartered larger superyachts and knew exactly what he wanted. The yacht has a timeless style and a silhouette that looks perfect now but will also look great in 15 years. The external design was created by the Reymond-Langton studio, which had previously designed the Viatoris unit for us. That’s where the ACE project’s history began. We received an extensive brief from the client, including layout. The Reymond-Langton office proposed the external design and the owner liked it. We made some adjustments, such as enlarging the windows and lowering the bulwarks. The client chose m2atelier himself, and we’re very satisfied with the results. What I love about this yacht is the feeling of peace, relaxation, and balance. The main challenges we faced for ACE, first and foremost, was the pandemic. We signed the contract in January 2020 with a year’s development and design work before that. And one thing we hadn’t done before was the floor to ceiling windows in the salon. Theoretically, it’s nothing innovative, but we’re talking about a 45-meter yacht, not a megayacht. However, we did it, and the effect is stunning. The yacht’s greatest strength is that it comes in under the 500 GT limit but still feels light. The design is adapted to fit within these constraints. Everything is done very solidly, with stability and without compromise. 133

ot so long ago, the opportunity to work without actually being present at our place of business was an ambition reserved for a privileged few. Some yachts are used as a business venue,
a platform for meetings and establishing work contacts or finalising contracts and hosting prestigious clients and business partners, a practice that is typical of Asian owners, especially Chinese. Of course, it goes without saying that the yacht must be accessible by helicopter, so a helipad is a vital feature on board yachts used for these purposes. Now, though, this practice has spread. them to tap into services that would not be out of place in an office in the heart of New York or Hong Kong. “The demand for on-board offices that enable owners to reconcile their work commitments with leisure activities during cruises has grown with the development of communications networks, which now make connection possible even at sea”, says Virginia De Carlo, marketing & communication manager at Palumbo Superyacht. “This increasing demand has led to a number of design solutions. In some cases it involves dedicated workstations in the owner’s cabin. In other situations owners prefer a proper space for business meetings – on the Columbus 80 metre Classic M/Y Dragon, for example, the owner specified a deck almost entirely dedicated to business, complete with large desk, video-conferencing screens in the ceiling, a bar, round table and lounge area. The owner of the ISA Classic 65 metre also wanted a bathroom and fixed balcony”. This concept of professional spaces on a yacht highlights the importance owners give to the ability to manage their work activities while at sea, emphasising the way superyacht design must reflect contemporary requirements of work and pleasure. No self-respecting floating villa is without a perfectly-organised, dedicated space where owners can isolate themselves from family and friends an establish a virtual presence in professional activities across the world. Designers and yards have recognised this demand and now create flexible, multi-functional spaces designed to be elegant and functional, providing a comfortable, stimulating workspace made using luxurious materials. “The functionality of a well-organised office and dedicated, welcoming interiors that maintain the on-board atmosphere – that’s our work creating on-board offices is aiming for. We want owners to be able to continue looking after their business even when they’re on holiday”, says architect Francesco Paszkowski. “In 136

practice this means a space against a bulkhead, small, perhaps, but peaceful, with a sea view and equipped with drawers and spaces where mobile phones, computers, tablets and documents can be stored out of sight once work is over, creating a relaxed atmosphere while remaining within easy reach. One successful example is the office on board Severin’s, a 55-metre yacht by Baglietto. It has a dual access, one from the lobby that leads into owner’s apartment and the other from the sleeping area through a curved sliding door. It’s a comfortable, separate, dedicated space with shapes and colours that fit in with the yacht’s overall style”. Another feature of an inspiring, stimulating work space is large, panoramic windows that provide a breath-taking view of the sea. “Many owners ask for a private space they can retreat to when necessary. A view of the sea is a must”, says Mauro Micheli, Chief Designer and co-founder with Sergio Beretta of Officina Italiana Design, “On yachts up to 30 metres in length these zones form part of the owner’s cabin, which always includes an office or beauty corner. On larger yachts, 50 metres long, say, it’s easier to ask for a fully-fledged office inside the cabin entrance, like on the Riva 50 Metri Race. They are often multifunctional areas where everyone can create his or her own private space. They can also be transformed into an extra cabin”. These areas may include relaxation zones, meeting rooms, gyms, spa and even a swimming pool, features that enable owners to relax and recharge their batteries during work breaks, creating a balance between work and pleasure. Everyone’s dream!

expression, with a tangible yet also symbolic value. The company has created a movement with chronograph complication and minute repetitions dating back to 1890 made by the Geneva-based Golay Leresche & Fils but restored recently by Michel Parmigiani and modified by him to add a perpetual calendar function. It’s an ideal bridge across the centuries, decorated in the same way as when it was used in 18th century Geneva by cabinotiers, the expert artisans in métiers d’art working in their studios, light-filled workplaces on the top floors of their buildings. It is aesthetically and creatively enhanced by the artisanal talent of a master enameller, an engraver and a chain maker.

which the Maison challenges and confronts its foundations with a new, unexpected perspective, in which savoir-faire and creative registers are revisited through a different vision. Precious pieces with geometric shapes and the Maison’s great signature, the Panther, are tinged with colour, thanks to magnificent and unique stones, shining with intrinsic light. Geometric shapes, clean lines, and a perfect balance of volumes. Rigorous jewels, sometimes angular, yet exuding the elegant harmony that only great creatives and experienced goldsmiths can magic into being. One of the dominant themes is the allure of different cultures as seen in © Cartier
