Get ready for a magical evening as we kick off the holiday season with our beloved Christmas Parade! On Monday, December 2, Downtown Temple will come alive with festive floats, joyful music, and Santa Claus coming into town to spread holiday cheer. The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. at the corner of 8th St and Adams Ave. Don’t miss out on this cherished tradition bring your family, friends, and holiday spirit!

NOTE: The Tree Lighting Show will take place on November 30, not the same night as the parade.

FROM THE Desk of the City Manager

The City Manager's Office handles the general administration of the City of Temple and executes the policies and objectives of the City Council. The City Manager is directly responsible to the Mayor and City Council and oversees the day-to-day operations of the City by coordinating all City departments activities and functions, including the development of the Strategic Plan. The City Manager's Office also leads the financial and budget management process for the City and directs the City's efforts to plan for the future.

Celebrating the Holiday Season in Temple

As the year draws to a close, I want to take a moment to wish you all a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year. In Temple, the magic of this season comes alive as we gather to enjoy the festivities and traditions that bring us closer as a community. We are truly excited to share this beautiful time of year with all of you, and we look forward to making this holiday season one to remember

This month, the City of Temple proudly launched Holly Jolly, a celebration filled with events and activities for everyone to enjoy With festivities, including our brand new Christmas at the Plaza Tree Lighting Show and Holiday Market to the traditional 78th Annual Christmas Parade and the Picture at the Plaza showcasing The Polar Express, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the season These are just a few of the many events we have planned, and we hope to see everyone join in the festivities throughout the month Our variety of events is designed to bring the community together, create lasting memories, and spread holiday cheer. As we come together to celebrate, let us also take a moment to acknowledge those who work around the clock to keep our city safe and thriving Our dedicated police officers, firefighters, and city staff play a crucial role in ensuring our holiday season is full of peace and enjoyment A heartfelt thank you to all of them for their service during this special time of year.

I also want to encourage everyone to stay safe as you enjoy the festivities. Whether you’re traveling, shopping, or simply spending time with loved ones, a little extra care can help ensure a joyful holiday season for all. New Upgrades to Silverstone Park

We’re thrilled to announce that Silverstone Park has received a fantastic upgrade with the addition of a brand-new, Fire Department-themed playground! This vibrant play area, inspired by our local heroes, features unique climbing structures, slides, and interactive elements designed to ignite the imaginations of children and celebrate our firefighters. Alongside this exciting new playground, visitors can now enjoy a scenic walking trail, a basketball court, BBQ grills, and a spacious picnic pavilion. Spanning 5 acres, Silverstone Park offers a fresh, inviting space for families, friends, and neighbors to relax and connect.

Located at 404 Waters Dairy, Silverstone Park is the perfect destination for outdoor fun and community gatherings. Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Tour & Contest Deadline Extended

The City of Temple’s 3rd Annual Merry & Bright Holiday Lights Tour & Contest is still on the hunt for the most dazzling holiday displays! Now, you have until December 6 to submit your photos and address.

Starting December 7, all entries will be featured on our interactive map for the community to vote for their favorite festive setup! The winner will receive a special award from Mayor Tim Davis at the City Council meeting on December 19!

Kringle Krawl

Friday, December 6

Get ready to jingle through Downtown Temple at our annual Kringle Krawl this First Friday! This First Friday, bring your holiday cheer, dress in your most festive attire (think Santa hats, ugly sweaters, and holiday lights!), and join us for a night of merry mingling and holidaythemed drink specials

Participating venues will serve seasonal sips, and local businesses will stay open late.

Santa Paws

Parks and Recreation plays a vital role in fostering vibrant and thriving communities. By providing accessible and well-maintained parks, recreational facilities, and programs, they create spaces for individuals of all ages to engage in physical activity, socialize, and connect with nature. As well as organizing community events, sports leagues, and cultural activities, promoting a sense of unity and belonging among residents.

Saturday, December 14 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

It’s a Very Special Christmas Celebration at Sammons Community Center! Join us at this free community event for children with disabilities and their families. This event is for all ages. We will have holiday crafts, games, light refreshments and a special appearance from Santa!

Big Catch

Saturday, December 14 from 8 - 10:30 a.m.

Temple Parks & Recreation and Texas Parks & Wildlife are stocking Miller Park Pond to the gills with rainbow trout on December 14. Enjoy a relaxing morning of fishing with family and friends and get ready to hook the big one! Fishing licenses will be waived by Texas Parks & Wildlife during the event with a signed waiver. Plus, hot chocolate and donuts will be provided at the pavilion while supplies last.

Public Safety

Our police and fire departments are crucial to our community’s well-being, ensuring the protection and security of community members. From patrolling neighborhoods and investigating crimes, conducting safety awareness programs, offering emergency medical assistance and community outreach, public safety professionals play a pivotal role in safeguarding the community while instilling peace of mind and fostering a sense of security among community members. Our first responders are at the forefront of protecting our neighborhoods, providing essential aid during crises, and promoting a sense of safety and reassurance among our community members.

Looking to Make a Difference

The Temple Police Department and Temple Fire and Rescue have some wonderful opportunities to make an impact in the community this holiday season.

Blue Santa is accepting new, unwrapped books and toys, which can be dropped off at the Police Department lobby in the designated Blue Santa donation box. Donations are also welcomed year-round to help spread joy to children in need.

Temple Fire & Rescue’s Rescue Elves program is no longer accepting child sponsorships, but you can still help by donating new, unwrapped toys at any Temple Fire Station. For monetary donations, you can stop by Central Fire Station, mail a check, or make a Venmo donation.

Light Up For Literacy

Join us on December 2 at 4 p.m. on the 1st and 2nd floors for Light Up For Literacy! Prepare for Winter Reading and catch a great spot to view the City of Temple Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting! Join us for games, activities, and more as we kick off this year's Winter Reading Program, which runs from December 2 through January 31. All ages can participate in this event and reading challenge, so bring the whole family, then stick around to see Santa drive down Adams Avenue!

The Muttcracker-SWEET!

Join us on December 6 at 5 p.m. on the 3rd floor for a magical performance featuring Darren Peterson and his adorable dogs! Watch as they take the stage to act out a heartwarming retelling of the beloved Nutcracker story. It's a paw-some experience that the whole family will love!

Public Works

Public Works plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for community members. Their primary objective is to ensure the maintenance, development, and improvement of public infrastructure and services. From roads and bridges to water supply systems and parks, public works departments are responsible for managing and enhancing these essential elements of a community. Their efforts contribute to the safety, accessibility, and overall quality of life within the community.

GARBAGE & RECYCLING Collection Schedule

Christmas Holiday Collection

Collections scheduled for Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24) will run as scheduled. There are no collections on Christmas Day (Wednesday, December 25). Normal collections will resume on Thursday, December 26. The landfill will be closed on December 25.

New Year’s Day Holiday Collection

Collections scheduled for New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, December 31) will run as scheduled. There are no collections on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, January 1, 2024). Normal collections will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2024. The landfill will be closed on January 1, 2024.

Christmas Tree Recycling

The city is offering free Christmas tree recycling from December 26 to January 10. Drop off your tree at the Solid Waste Complex (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) or at 602 Jack Baskins Drive (available 24/7).

If you're unable to make it to one of the drop-off locations, you can also leave your tree out for bulk and brush pickup.

Monthly Dumpster Drop

We understand how important it is to keep our neighborhoods clean and safe for everyone. That’s why the City of Temple is committed to continuing our Dumpster Drop program. We hope this initiative helps reduce illegal trash and tire dumping, making our community a better place for all of us!

What we provide:

Dropping a container monthly in different parts of town

Providing a trailer for the disposal of tires

Trash bags are available through Keep Temple Beautiful

Rakes, Shovels, and other tools are available through the Temple Tool Library

Celebrate the New Year Safely in Temple

As we ring in the New Year, remember: fireworks are illegal within Temple city limits. Let’s kick off 2024 safely and thoughtfully! Be mindful of your neighbors during the celebrations especially pets, veterans, and children who may be sensitive to loud noises.

City offices will be closed on December 24 and 25 for the holiday and will reopen on December 26.

Additionally, offices will be closed on January 1 and will reopen on January 2.

Veterans Day Ceremony

On Friday, November 8th, the City of Temple hosted the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Ceremony, bringing the community together to honor the service and sacrifices of our veterans. The event speakers, including City Manager Brynn Myers, Mayor Tim Davis, and Colonel Werner Barden helped make this ceremony a heartfelt tribute.

This annual ceremony is just one of the ways the city shows appreciation for our veterans. Thank you to all the Veterans and all that they have done for our country.
