Development Updates

These are exciting times in the City of Temple! New developmental projects are transforming our urban landscape, promising to bring innovation and vibrancy to our community. With a focus on sustainable design, these projects are set to revitalize our city's core, creating a dynamic hub for residents and visitors alike. Stay tuned for a reimagined Temple that seamlessly blends modernity with its rich heritage, making it a place we love to call home!

Kegley Road Phase 3

The City of Temple is making significant strides in improving local infrastructure with the ongoing Kegley Road Phase 3 improvements This project includes expanding the roadway to three lanes two travel lanes with a continuous left turn lane adding a 6-foot-wide sidewalk, improving drainage systems, relocating existing water and wastewater utilities, and constructing an elevated bridge over Pepper Creek. These upgrades are designed to enhance safety and accessibility for all who use the road.

Phase 3 of the Kegley Road Improvement project began on August 12, marking a key milestone in the city's efforts to modernize its infrastructure. As part of the project, a portion of Kegley Road, from Blue Star Boulevard to Charter Oak Drive, is now closed to through traffic. This closure is expected to last for approximately 15 months, allowing construction crews to complete the essential work.

Annual Hiring Event

Tuesday, September 17 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

The City of Temple Hiring Event is happening on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic & Convention Center!

We will be set up from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to discuss your career goals and available job opportunities with the City of Temple! Grab your updated resume and be ready for potential on-the-spot interviews. There is an opportunity for you to leave with a conditional offer on the day of the event.

Save the date for the City of Temple’s 2nd Annual Community Summit! The Community Summit is a fun, interactive event for the whole family. Residents can meet and speak with various city departments, ask questions and learn about the programs and services offered by the city.

The event is planned in conjunction with Downtown’s First Friday. The Community Summit is a free event for all ages and will feature an evening of information and fun. Residents will be able to earn prizes and goodies from each booth as well as enjoy bounce houses and live music from Holly Tucker and Mason Hays!

Annual Temple Community Visual Arts Exhibit

View the 6th Annual Temple Community Treasures Photography Contest and 3rd Annual Painting Contest from September 3 to October 31 at the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum.

Volunteer Opportunity: El Paseo Neighborhood Clean-Up

Saturday, September 21 from 8 - 11 a.m.

Looking to give back to your community or earn volunteer hours? Join us on September 21 from 8 to 11 a.m. for a cleanup event in the El Paseo Neighborhood District.

Volunteers will assist with trash pickup and other revitalization efforts to help beautify the area. City staff will be on-site to sign off on volunteer hours.

Downtown Temple

Downtown Temple stands as a dynamic hub, contributing to the community's enrichment in variety of ways. Dive into a spook-tacular evening with the Plaza Picture Show, featuring Hocus Pocus!

Mark your calendars for this screening on September 13. Located in the heart of Downtown Temple in Santa Fe Plaza, this event is your ticket to a magical evening. Before the movie, explore downtown Temple discover flavors, find your beat, and shop unique treats. The first 25 guests will receive a special surprise gift.

Pre-show activities start at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at dusk.

Dunkin’ Doggies is coming back this year! Join us and Loop 363 Animal Hospital at Lions Junction Water Park on Saturday, September 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to make a splash with your pup! Admission is $5 per dog, with Loop 363 Animal Hospital generously sponsoring the first 50 dogs for this event.

Fall Youth Basketball Clinics

Sharpen your basketball skills and learn the fundamentals of the game with our upcoming clinic for boys and girls ages 4-12 as of January 1. The clinic will take place on Sunday afternoons, with times varying based on age groups.

Public Safety

As the school year kicks off, it's time to remember the importance of staying alert in school zones Whether school has already started or will be starting soon in your area, please be extra cautious when driving through these zones. If you notice that the school zone lights aren't working, please report this to our Transportation Division. Let's work together to ensure our kids stay safe as they return to the classroom!

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Wednesday, September 11 at 8:30 a.m.

The City of Temple’s Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will take place on September 11 at 8:30 a m at Central Fire Station. This event will pay respects to the lives lost on September 11, 2001, featuring opening remarks and the ringing of the bell to commemorate a line-of-duty death and mark the collapse of the World Trade Center’s South and North towers The community is invited to attend and honor this significant day.

National Night Out

CLEAR THE SHELTER

Surprise! Heart to Home is extending its annual "Clear the Shelter" event through the entire month of September. Throughout September, all adoption fees will be just $5. Additionally, Heart to Home will extend its business hours on select dates to promote adoptions. On September 13, 20, and 27, the facility will remain open until 5 p.m.

Each computer monitor alone contains 4 pounds of lead, as well as arsenic, lithium, mercury, beryllium, and other chemicals. For every one million cell phones we recycle, 35 thousand pounds of copper, 772 pounds of silver, 75 pounds of gold, and 33 pounds of palladium can be recovered.

While summer is almost over, the Texas heat is still here! To conserve our water resources, please incorporate water conservation into your daily activities

Irrigate responsibly by watering twice a week and on designated days before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m.

TEMPLE TALK: In Case You Missed It

TFR & TPD’s Back-To-School Events

The Temple Fire & Rescue and Temple Police Department hosted successful Back-to-School events, marking the start of the new school year with a generous spirit. Blue Santa donated over 300 backpacks for students in Temple, while Temple Fire & Rescue (TFR) contributed 180 backpacks of their own. Additionally, the community played a crucial role by donating school supplies to fire stations across Temple, supporting TFR's Backpack Buddy initiative. A big shoutout to everyone involved for their tremendous support and contribution to ensuring students are well-prepared for the school year!
