Heart to Home Animal Adoption Center

In December 2022, the City of Temple initiated the eagerly awaited construction and renovation of the animal shelter, marking the commencement of an ambitious project. Just over a year later, we are thrilled to announce its successful completion! The comprehensive expansion and remodel encompass the addition of 40 new dog kennels, bringing the total to an impressive 70 kennels, strategically designed to meet both current and future demands. Ensuring the utmost comfort for our four-legged companions, all kennel spaces are now equipped with climate control, guaranteeing warmth in winter and coolness in summer. The renovation goes beyond addressing functional needs and extends to enhancing the overall customer experience. This is achieved through the creation of a more prominent and welcoming entrance, a spacious lobby, and improved pedestrian flow within the facility. The front of the building has undergone a significant transformation, resulting in a visually appealing facelift. Additionally, the introduction of three brand-new yard spaces adds an extra layer of enjoyment for all, featuring shaded areas to provide comfort and relaxation. The City of Temple's commitment to the welfare of its animal residents and the satisfaction of its community is reflected in this successful and comprehensive project. Read more about the Grand Re-opening of this facility on page 4.

Hazard Mitigation Prep The Central Texas Council of Governments has created a survey to gather community input for revising the 2024-2029 Hazard Mitigation Plan. The 18-question survey provides residents with the opportunity to provide feedback regarding safety concerns and potential hazards that might impact the Bell County area. The Hazard Mitigation Plan is a comprehensive document that outlines strategies and actions to reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural disasters and man-made hazards. It includes information such as a community profile,

risk assessments, mitigation actions, and processes for monitoring and evaluating the implemented safety strategies. The information gathered from the survey responses will help shape the new 5-year plan and contribute to creating a safer, more secure environment for residents during crisis events that may impact Central Texas. 4 P’s for Winter Weather Protect People: Dress in layers to stay warm when venturing outdoors. Wear a hat and gloves to prevent heat loss through the head and extremities. Stay Informed – keep abreast of weather forecasts and plan accordingly. Protect Pets: Ensure that your pets have adequate shelter from the cold. Limit their time outdoors during extreme cold weather. Check for signs of frostbite on their paws, ears, and nose. Protect Plants: Bring sensitive plants indoors or cover them with frost cloth to shield them from freezing temperatures. Consider mulching around the base of outdoor plants to insulate roots and retain soil warmth. Protect Pipes: To prevent frozen pipes, insulate exposed water pipes in unheated areas of your home, such as the attic or crawl spaces. Seal gaps and cracks in walls to keep cold air out. Allow a small stream of water to flow from faucets during extremely cold weather to prevent pipes from freezing. 21

Winter Weather Prep Who said Texans can't handle the cold!? Here are a few helpful tips for winter weather prep: Winterize your home to protect your pipes, backflow prevention assembly, irrigation systems, and other outdoor systems. Trim your trees before the freeze - fallen branches can lead to house damage, downed powerlines, and road hazards. For tips, tricks, and more information, visit templetx.gov/protectyourpipes.

Christmas Tree Recycling The City of Temple is offering free Christmas tree recycling from December 26 to January 8. Trees can be dropped off anytime at 3015 Bullseye Lane or 602 Jack Baskins Drive or be taken to Solid Waste Complex (2611 E. Ave. H) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Live trees will only be accepted if they have been stripped of all ornaments and decorations. Residents can also leave the trees out for brush and bulk collection if they cannot make it to one of the two drop-off locations. Digital water bills are now accepted at the landfill for the one-free month dump! The bill must be active, and in the resident's name (can be spouse). 22

The transition to the new system is expected to go live at the end of January 2024, with notifications to guide users through the process. Stay tuned for more updates!
