Summer Reading

REGISTRATION

Registration for all ages opens June 1. Register online at temple.beanstack.org or in-person at the Library. Did not register on the 1st? No problem! Anyone can register at any time during the summer and still collect prizes! Summer Reading ends August 31.

REMEMBER

This is for fun! Read what you like, choose topics you are interested in, and always feel free to stop reading a book you do not enjoy. Just remember to pick up a new one to replace it!

SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM

JUNE 3 –AUGUST 2 | LIBRARY 3RD FLOOR | MCLANE ROOM

In partnership with Temple ISD, the Temple Public Library will be open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday for children 0 – 18. Children do not need to be enrolled in TISD to take part.

Reading Prizes

AGES 0 – 5

Read to your infant, toddler, or preschooler for 15 minutes each day. Collect a prize each week, starting June 10.

AGES 6 – 11

Read on your own or with someone for 30 minutes each day. Collect a prize each week, starting June 10.

AGES 12 – 18

Read for 30 minutes each day. Collect a prize each week, starting June 10.

ADULTS

For every book you read, earn a badge and an entry into the grand prize drawing. After reading 5 books, pick up a prize book. After you finished 10 books, pick up a bookish swag bag. After you finish 15 books, you can get a Summer Reading themed t-shirt!

EARLY LITERACY PROGRAMS

Baby Bookworms

JUNE 11, 18, 25 & JULY 2, 9, 16 | 11AM | 1ST FLOOR STORY TIME ROOM

Join us for a lap-sit story time to introduce the sounds and rhythms of language, develop motor skills, and support early learning. Story Time is followed by a brief playtime with toys and socialization for caregivers and babies. Baby Bookworms is best for pre-walkers who are not yet highly mobile. Ages 0 – 12 months

Toddler Story Time

JUNE 12, 26 & JULY 3, 10, 17 | 10:15AM | 3RD FLOOR MCLANE ROOM

Caregivers and toddlers are invited to join us for repetitive rhymes, songs, and movement that help reinforce the sounds and rhythms of language, develop motor skills, and support early learning. Participants will also enjoy simple books that explore familiar concepts, sounds, and movements. Caregiver participation strongly encouraged. Ages 1 – 3

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Meetup

Prepare your little one for a lifetime of reading success while celebrating milestones along the way! Join us to collect rewards, meet other families, and play. For ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Can’t make it to the Meetup? Collect milestone prizes on Saturdays and Sundays at the Youth Reference Desk. Ages 0 – 5

Mystique and Mayhem

Youth are invited to embark on a journey of creativity through play and enrichment as they work together to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and more through the excitement of storytelling and world building. Youth Chess Club

Get ready to embark on a chess-tastic journey with the Temple Chess Club! Join our squad of enthusiastic volunteers who are armed with a passion for pawns, a love of knights, and a knack for cunning strategies. Unleash your inner grandmaster, forge new friendships, and let the checkmates commence!

2ND WEDNESDAYS: JUNE 12, JULY 10 & AUGUST 14 5PM | 1ST FLOOR

Take a break, unwind, and relax with constructive and imaginative play that promotes education through STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics). Children are encouraged to be innovative, foster creative problem-solving and critical thinking, and harness their natural ability to ask questions and find answers. All supplies and activities are provided. Ages 5 – 11

Kids Craft Corner

4TH TUESDAYS: JUNE 25, JULY 23, AUGUST 27 5PM | 1ST FLOOR

Join us as we get creative, get a little messy, and most of all, have a lot of fun! Every month will feature a new and unique craft to create. All supplies are provided, so just bring yourself and maybe a friend or two! Ages 7 – 12

Sock Monkey Circus

Monkey around with Honey Goodenough and her magical, miniature circus. Join us for an awe-inspiring show featuring marionettes who juggle, dance, and swing on a flying trapeze!

Oscar Muñoz

Master comedic magician Oscar Muñoz is known for his educational and motivational magic shows. Prepare to be captivated by his tricks and illusions and amused by his wildly funny jokes.

Circus Chickendog

JUNE 26 | 2PM

Circus Chickendog’s show is legendary for bringing out smiles! Come see Darren and all of his rescued furry (and feathered) friends for a fun-filled hour of juggling, tons of dog tricks, and so much more!

Joe McDermott

JULY 10 | 2PM

If you’re looking for a fun, high-energy hour of music and movement, look no further than this show! Joe McDermott and his guitar will liven up your morning and will likely leave you with a few songs stuck in your head.

Staci Gray

JULY 20 | 10AM

Come on out for a morning of silliness and song with our friend, Staci Gray! With her guitar and LOTS of bubbles, she’ll have the whole family moving and grooving together. Don’t miss out on the fun!

The Singing Zoologist

JULY 24 | 2PM

Lucas Miller, better known as “The Singing Zoologist,” has been literally singing the praises of wildlife since graduating with a degree in Zoology. His zany humor, smart songwriting, and unbridled passion for science inspire his fans, young and old, to respect and protect the natural world.

D&D and Beyond

Join our Teen Advisory Board! “What’s a Teen Advisory Board?” you may ask! It’s the chance for you to tell us what to do! Attend our meetings and not only will you have volunteer opportunities, but you will be able to discuss programming and events you want to see at the library. Tween Hangout

Sound Journey with Josephine Ashford

Chair Yoga

Adaptive Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga. It is accessible to everyone, in all bodies. It centers around using a chair, wheelchair, or other mobility device to bring a practice to both your mind and body. Ages 18+

Home Organizing with Jane Atlas

Jane Atlas of Home Assistant Services shares how to get the root of hoarding, declutter without overwhelm, and implements systems to prevent it from reoccurring. This presentation also shares secrets from her own home life as a mom and how she was able to improve her health, and her relationships by taking the minimalist approach. Ages 18+
