COURSE WITHDRAWAL & TRANSFER POLICY

Withdrawal Request:

• Withdrawal requests will only be considered if received at least 10 days before course start date, except for Medical Requests, which are subject to the Medical Policy.

• Approved withdrawals will be refunded according to the Refund Policy.

Transfer Request:

Transfer requests will only be considered if received at least 10 days before course start date, except for Medical Requests, which are subject to the Medical Policy. Requested transfer class must have open availability and be in the current Play Frisco Guide.

• If transfer course is not available, and the participant chooses to withdraw from the class, request is subject to Withdrawal Policy above.

• If transfer is to a higher-priced class, the price difference must be paid before transfer can be completed.

• If transfer is to a lower-priced class, the price difference is subject to the Refund Policy below.

Medical Withdrawal and Transfer Requests:

Written documentation from a physician’s office must accompany the Withdrawal or Transfer Request.

• Request form must be received within 72 hours of the first missed class.

• Refund will be prorated if the withdrawal occurs during the course and is subject to the Refund Policy.

REFUND POLICY

Please check PlayFrisco.org for the most up-to-date refund policies. Cash and check payments may only be refunded by check. All refund checks will be mailed in approximately four weeks.

• Refunds on payments made by check will be held 30 days past the initial purchase date before being submitted for processing.

• Under no circumstances will a cash refund be provided.

• FAC account credits are good for one year from the date of issue. All account credits and refunds are subject to approval by the Parks & Recreation Department and subject to the applicable proration and processing fees.

I have always loved fall.

Although it means an end to lazy days by the pool, it also means cooler weather and football season are just around the corner.

As the kids return to school, daylight hours shorten, and preparations for the holidays begin, it is important to remember to find time to play. Doing recreational activities that you enjoy has many benefits. It relieves stress, improves brain function, boosts creativity, keeps you feeling energetic, and creates an overall effect of well-being.

Play Frisco offers many ways for you to play in the fall. You can visit a local park, take a walk on a trail, visit a natural area, attend a special event, or become a member of the FAC to reach your fitness goals.  Whether you like to play actively, socially, naturally, or artistically, Play Frisco has something for you.

Anytown Actors LAB

The Anytown Actors LAB is a one-year program of the highest quality. With roots in New York City, this new program introduces 12 tools in 12 months for a foundation that will last a lifetime. A new tool is introduced and taught each month and students practice these tools in their scene work each week. Despite the influence of Sanford Meisner's work on our program, we do believe that technique is a means to an end and that truthful acting is always the number one goal.

The Frisco Athletic Center offers more than 40 classes a week at convenient times throughout the day to fit your schedule. Take a class before or after work, or during your lunch break. Group exercise class admission is included in your FAC membership. Non-members may purchase a day/guest pass at the front desk. Group exercise schedules are available at PlayFrisco.org or the FAC fitness and front desks.

PERSONAL TRAINING

Get results! Services are available for ages 13 and up. Clients must maintain an active FAC membership and purchase training packages prior to the first session. WATER EXERCISE

Water Aerobics classes held at the Frisco Athletic Center are available at no additional cost to members of the facility. These classes are available on a firstcome, first-served basis. Non-members may purchase a day/guest pass at the front desk. Individuals interested in participating in a Water Aerobics class who are not FAC members may purchase a punch card containing 12 punches for $50.

2-MONTH REGISTRATION

WHICH SWIM LEVEL IS RIGHT FOR MY CHILD?

Free swim assessments, completed by one of our certified swim instructors, evaluates a child's current water skills to determine which Learn to Swim level is best. Assessments are not required for Learn to Swim enrollment.

Two siblings may register together for the same assessment time. The assessment will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. A swimsuit is required and goggles are strongly recommended.

Learn to Swim - Parent & Child

The purpose of the Parent and Child Aquatic program is to help young children become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn to swim. While the class is designed to raise the comfort level of the child, it is also intended to educate the parent or caregiver in basic water skills so they are better equipped to aid in their child's aquatic education and ensure that their child stays safe in all water activities. Children two to three years will be introduced to equipment used in preschool lessons and will work with instructors on taking individual direction to help transition from parent and child to preschool swim classes.

Learn to Swim - Preschool

Proper swim wear is required. The earlier a child becomes comfortable in water, familiar with safety precautions, and introduced to the basics of beginner swimming, the better prepared they will be around pools, lakes, and other aquatic environments. Learn to Swim - Level 5

To enroll in this level, students must be able to show competency in breathing and execution of all four major strokes (front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, and butterfly) as well as the elementary backstroke. The objective of this level is to continue improvement on the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Students will be swimming distances up to and exceeding 50 yards to refine each stroke over a water depth of 8 feet. This level will introduce flip turns, open turns, sidestroke, and expand on personal water safety tips.

Learn to Swim - Level 6

To enroll in this level, students must be able to show an effective and proficient stroke as well as the appropriate turns in the following: freestyle 75 yards, backstroke 50 yards, breaststroke 50 yards and butterfly 25 yards. Students should also be prepared to show mastery of the elementary backstroke, side stroke, and surface dives. The objective of Level 6 is to refine the four major strokes. Students will combine strokes and turns in order to swim with more ease, efficiency, and build endurance over longer distances.

Registration held through Mike Taylor at 972-292-6629. Level 7 “Skill Clinic” A two-month long clinic that focuses on skills related to the preparation of joining a swim team. Students must have passed Level 6 or attended a summer swim team. Focus will be on effective and efficient 100 yards Freestyle, Backstroke, 75 yards Breaststroke, and 50 yards Butterfly to register. Skills learned will include: Open & Flip Turns, Individual Medley Transitions, Stroke breakouts and pullouts, Starts, Time Clock use & sets, and more!

Each student’s experience in the water may range from no formal training, a desire to increase stroke proficiency, or a need to gain knowledge in aquatics for training purposes. This class will teach the fundamentals of water safety, buoyancy, breath control, front crawl with rotary/side breathing, and more. Participants should come to class with goals in mind on what they want to achieve during the session.

We are proud to offer private swim lessons for children of all ages. Private lessons are available for children who are Level 4 and below (no lap swimming.) Level restrictions are strictly enforced. Our certified instructors will teach the skills required to make swimming a more rewarding and enjoyable experience. Sessions include four, 30-minute private lessons. Pick a time that is convenient to you. Registration for private lessons are available in person at the Frisco Athletic Center or online at PlayFrisco.org.

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of a local business or a lunch outing with friends! Visit a historic downtown area or the Dallas Zoo with a Grove staff member as your tour guide. We even offer special trips to places like Washington D.C. and Niagara Falls!

From celebrating birthdays and holidays to BINGO and billards tournaments, we host fun events that are sure to bring a smile to your face. Our events are a great way to make friends and play with other members!

The Grove offers classes throughout each month to encourage active play and foster community among mem bers. Dancing, Art, Lifelong Learning, Health and Wellness, and learning a new language are just a few of our classes. There's always somethinhg new to do at The Grove!

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of North Texas offers non-credit courses for adults age 50 and better at The Grove at Frisco Commons. Learn from active university faculty and a wide variety of subject matter experts in courses that never involve any tests or mandatory assignments.

FRISCO HERITAGE VILLAGE BLACKSMITH CLASSES

Blacksmith classes are back in 2022! We have been working on expanding the available space in the Blacksmith shop to be able to add a second forge and expand the number of students in each class! we offer 3 levels of blacksmithing classes for kids as well as adults, and after each class each student takes home what they've made! Classes are 2-4 hours and take place on Saturdays. Stay tuned to the museum's social media and website for the grand re-opening of Gaby's Blacksmith Shop!

FRISCO HERITAGE VILLAGE WALKING TOURS

On this one-hour guided walking tour through the Frisco Heritage Village, you’ll learn how the City of Frisco got its name, the importance of a blacksmith shop, train depot, and what architecture was like at the turn of the 20th century here in North Texas. As you stroll along, you will discover a historic church, a one-room schoolhouse, and even a log cabin! Tour times and price include a self-guided tour through the Frisco Heritage Museum. FRISCO HERITAGE VILLAGE HISTORIC HOMES TOUR

Go back in time with us to the turn of the 20th century for a brand-new Historic House Tour at the Frisco Heritage Village where we take you on a one-hour guided tour through the Smith-Muse House, the CrozierSickles House, and the Lebanon Baptist Church. On this tour, we will discuss the historical significance of the structures, learn what life was like in Frisco when they were built, and hear the incredible personal stories of the pioneers who lived and worshipped in them. Frisco Discovery Center

Owned and managed by the city, the Frisco Discovery Center helps residents and visitors find well-being through play by offering art, science, and cultural experiences for Frisco and the surrounding community. The Discovery Center is home to the Frisco Art Gallery, Black Box Theater, and three independent museums.

The Frisco Art Gallery is going to be hosting the fifth annual Winter Art Show starting December 8th. We are seeking winter-themed artwork such as snow-capped peaks, frosted landscapes, pine trees or bare branches, woodland creatures, holiday scenes, etc. All mediums of artwork will be considered.”

FRISCO JUNIOR RANGER PROGRAM

Explore Frisco's natural areas and become a Junior Ranger! Children ages 5 and up can have fun in nature and learn valuable lessons about preserving and caring for our natural resources. They can participate by completing a free activity book and returning it for an official Junior Ranger Badge

THE HARVEST

The Harvest at Frisco Commons is a community garden managed by the City of Frisco that offers raised garden boxes for annual rental, as well as public education space for Frisco residents and volunteers. Gardeners may grow vegetables, fruits, herbs, or flowers in their leased space. Visit PlayFrisco.org/TheHarvest to lease a garden box and learn more about the community garden!

CITIZEN SCIENCE

Using the iNaturalist app, you can record scientific observations of plants and animals found in Frisco’s natural areas, green spaces, and even your own backyard! Once verified by experts, these observations become part of a worldwide database! Visit iNaturalist.org to learn more.

GO FISH!

Frisco has nine great fishing ponds to cast a line! Reel some fish in at one of our stocked ponds like Frisco Commons or Northeast Community Park, or try your luck at one of

our natural ponds such as Cottonwood Creek Greenbelt or 1135 Wildlife Preserve. Remember: anglers 17 and older must have a fishing license to fish in our public ponds. PlayFrisco.org/Fishing

PRESERVATION & CONSERVATION

On May 12, 2022, biologists from Texas Parks & Wildlife conducted a survey of two of our stocked fishing areas: Vial Lake at Warren Sports Complex (pictured above), and the pond at the Frisco Athletic Center. The survey found that both ponds had healthy populations of largemouth bass. We're encouraged by the report's findings and we plan to conduct more fish surveys in the future!
