NAC Summary

The NAIA National Administrative Council (NAC) met at the NACDA Convention in Washington, D.C. on July 27-28 to conduct its annual business meetings. Below is a summary of actions taken by the Council: • Approved a new postseason format in men’s and women’s basketball, set to begin in 2020-21 in order to coincide with combining of divisions. The format includes a 16-team final site for each gender, along with 16 regional sites of four teams each. The winner of each regional site tournament will advance to the final site. • Determined that implementation of the new men’s and women’s soccer postseason format, which was approved at 2018 convention, will be delayed one year and will now begin in 2019. The new format includes a field of 46 teams per gender and 16 opening round sites with winners advancing to the final site. • Reviewed the status of NAIA invitational sports. The NAC approved men’s and women’s bowling as second year invitational sports and added women’s wrestling as a first year invitational sport. • Approved a new baseball postseason format, set to begin in 2022, which includes 10 opening round sites and a 46-team field. • Approved moving the softball final site calendar up one day, effective in Spring 2019. Play will now begin on Thursday rather than Friday and conclude on a Thursday. • Approved qualification plans for all NAIA sports in 2018-19. • Approved qualification dates for 2018-19, 2019-20, and 2020-21. • Approved the formation of Competitive Cheer and Competitive Dance Rulebook Committees, which will oversee management and changes to its respective rulebooks on an annual basis. The NAC will convene again at the NAIA Convention in April of 2019 in West Palm Beach, Florida.
