When introducing abortion, the Government went so far as to reject an amendment allowing pain relief for an unborn baby during a late-term abortion. It brings home the true horror of the new law.

Barbaric

Some sections of the media constantly produce opinion polls claiming majority public support for abortion. But the poll questions invariably fail to make any distinction between necessary life-saving treatments in pregnancy and direct abortion (which intentionally targets the unborn baby’s life). Polls that make this distinction clear show strong opposition to legalised abortion.

Opinion

When introducing last year’s abortion law, Fine Gael and Labour also ignored the research highlighting the serious adverse mental health consequences of abortion for women.

Suicide

Doctors should be trained to save lives not end them.

Abortion is now legal up to birth. Fine Gael and Labour knew when introducing the law that abortion is not a treatment for suicidal feelings.

The Government introduced abortion in 2013. They misled the public by presenting the law as a life-saving measure. The Simple Truth Campaign is about giving an honest take on what the new law actually entails.

Where the By-Election candidates stand on rightto-life issues

In the by-election on October 10th, only vote for Candidates and Parties committed to defending life.

Many issues are troubling voters, but no issue is more important than protecting life. How we treat the vulnerable measures how civilised we are as a society.

As a Member of Dáil Éireann and notwithstanding the position of your political party (if applicable) will you:

Sinn Féin,Labour and Fine Gael all supported the abortion legislation passed in 2013.

The remaining candidates did not respond or their response was that they were not in a position to answer YES to all four questions.

Cllr Ivan Connaughton - Fianna Fáil Cllr Des Guckian - Non Party Gerry O’ Boyle - Non Party

The following candidates answered YES to all four questions

The Pro Life Campaign asked the following four questions of each of the candidates:

The abortion law introduced last year was presented as emergency legislation needed to save women’s lives. The truth of course is that the legislation was never about life-saving treatments. It was always about Fine Gael caving into the Labour Party, who campaigned for 20 years for an abortion regime in Ireland.

Misleading Statements From Politicians

On October 10th, only vote for Candidates and Parties who publicly oppose the Government’s abortion legislation and support the protection of human life from its fragile beginnings.

(i) vote against abortion at every opportunity. (ii) vote against destructive embryonic stem cell research at every opportunity. (iii) work with like-minded TDs and Senators to advance the protection of life at all stages. (iv) work towards the repeal of the abortion legislation introduced in Ireland in 2013.
