PROJECT 1

GERD-GAE-JEB-TAIY

MARCH2020

Many times in life people are upset due to the loss of another one. Some even find it tough to cope with the situation and wouldn’t let go. This project aims to enhance understanding about the nature of life by transmitting a message, ‘One day you are going to die’ through the life cycle of butterflies.

GERD-GAE-JEB-TAIY MARCH2020

The story of this project is explained through the 4 stages during a butterfly life span. I decided to merged the technique of paper carving and pop up for this project as they combined to form a delicate texture which symbolise how a person experiences collections of memories.

MY TEMPLATE

egg chrysalis caterpillar butterfly Butterfly? . Butterflies have short lifespans and it only takes 1 month to go through the whole cycle. .

MARCH2020

GERD-GAE-JEB-TAIY

‘This was translate through pop up’ Pop up gives the feeling of being alive through its movement which cause shifting in dimension. Similarly to the unexpected occurrence during a person's life.

GERD-GAE-JEB-TAIY MARCH2020

Paper carving? Paper carving is an technique which requires patience, thus represents the time period it takes for a butterfly to go through each stages.

PROJECT 02

TIME MACHINE Mummy told me time is scary, I never really understand why.

MAY 2019

Growing up everyday, I realized that at some point people will changed. It is not something that happened in a sudden but it is caused by ‘time’ , an indefinite continued process. inside out or outside in, time has so much power it could change both. This is probably what my mum was talking about, however in this project I present a collection of drawings which illustrates time as a ‘indefinite lesson’ instead of scary threats.

‘Eyes are the window to the soul.’ This is one of the most common sentence I’ve ever heard of. In our life I believed we all lie for at least once, but our eyes can’t. Love, sorrrow, rage, formed through time, all could be seen through a glance. Raw, pure and truthful.

PROJECT 02

THE RAW ONE

THE FILTER

Our eyes see and feel different things as a result of time, but independent experiences make a person has a specific filter. A Filter which acts like a shield and detector.

‘on the skin.’ I would like to study the nature of human appearance, applying first to the skin. To express this undefine occurance I create an artist study of Lee K. Illust. I tried to drew exactly what as he did to absorbed the technique. I think that this technique would give a surrealistic effect of wrinkles on the portraiture.

LEE K. ILLUST

ARTIST STUDY

technique : digital art ‘Wrinkling throught time’ is the concept of this picture Not growing and wrinkling just on the skin but by mind too. On the left black is the only colour used to symolise the idea of purity (no extra colours). I would like to mimic the changes of generation by merging them into this person. Therefore on the right side I delivered the usage of colour to present the modern world, buildings, light and colours.

‘The whole’, Moving on to another factor of change, ‘changing as a whole’. All organism grows and changes little by little everyday. I shifted my interest into the overlapping experience of a person as they are experiencing life. I created 3 artist studies of Christian Kim’s artwork to study the ‘overlapping effect.’

STUDY 1

CHRISTIAN KIM

3

overlapping faces

STUDY 2 STUDY 3 How I apply her technique to my concept is kind of ‘ironic’. The technique allow us to map the changes of movement, and also some physical changes. But for me this ‘change’ also present a ‘stability’. I define this overlap as a consequence. What this really is no matter how much you changes but that change is a consequences of your eperience

Ian Francis is another artist that I studied his technique. He draws his inspiration from cinema and imagery examining the most contemporary issues facing the human condition. The choice of colours for his work are mainly ones with vibrant tone— he stated that those earth tones like brown and green are avoided to exaggerate the idea of death. The stories he included in his drawings and the how he define death and life somehow sums up the concept of time machine, therefore I drew this piece as a part of the course and for further development.

TIME MACHINE

‘The pianist’. No, I think she looks more like mannequin, ‘lifeless but alive’, listen to instructions, doing what she should do, not what she wanted to.

Below, I think of her as ‘the death of the mannequin’. Even when she’s resting she is still on the piano, she lives and die without taking a chance to do other things.

‘The lost one’ the most meaningful part this piece delivered. Don’t let the limitation of time destroy you do what you want before it’s too late.

MAY 2019

TIME MACHINE

Horseriding: shows the consistency of the competitive society since the old times.

Confrontation of the different generation

MAY 2019

The last message I inserted is ‘Decay’ . Decay of one’s living, generation, feelings. Who you are changes and decay over time.

I portrayed two illustrations of the same person riding a horse through the dimension of time confronting Tuk-tuk (car) to show the transformation of a tangible object as transportation can differ and has developed. With this time based piece I want to identify how the transformation of the world contributes to a person's characteristic and identity how it influences their goals.

Based on Bangkok I did a site analysis of where ‘walley’ would be located. LIGHT SOURCE ATTRACT INSECTS I tried to think about it realistically and food is one of the top factor that keep us alive. If I would like geckos to maintain in W-ALL-EY 24 hours, food source must be provided. From my research geckos are nocturnal animals therefore they would eat in the night (18.00-24.00). The easiest way to provide food during this section is using light to interact insects.

HIDDEN feelings GROUND FLOOR

Hidden underground? There are two reasons behind this. First, it directly reflect users mind, their feelings and insecuirity that they want to hidden away. Secondly to enhance senses of safety, once you are underground it’s like you are inside a secret room where you are truly safe to be who you are.

ELEMENTS IN ‘YOURMINUSES’

Walking through smaller holes is a methaphor of tough life, this stage clarify to users that ‘running away does not solve problem’, you have to accept to be able to get over.

‘Increases secuirity with the lower levels’ walking deeper into the ground portrays the idea of being shut away from the society above. ‘now you could truly be yourselves’.

There might be reasons you can’t speak things out and it only make things worst. This stage allows you to ‘speak out your true self ’,shouted and express your worries into tin can.

Going beyond expressing through words to physical action, ‘plate smashing’ is originally from Greece. However shifting the idea of violating things, this stage talks about ‘throwing in terms of letting go of sorrow’.

Digging into the deepest part of a person’s mind you might discover the term, ‘suicide’. People don’t understand when they are being told that suicide isn’t the solution until they get to experience it themselves.

What is the value of one life? Because you are not alone, don’t forget that there’s still people who loves you and you mean so much to them. So don’t waste your life, live to be someone’s smile

Revisitting the tin can, this stage gives you opportunity to speak out again but maybe this time with a brighter mind. Maybe ‘now you can see that you’re not alone and there will always be tomorrow:)’.

ACHIEVING LUCID DREAM Through my researches about ‘lucid dream’ it is clearly state that the best way to archieve the state is to remember what your dreams are. This could be practice by jotting down what you perhaps dream last night. Changing the method of writing to sticking your dreams down instead, I would like to create a dream diary where such invisible and intangible dreams have colours and shapes.

THE HURRICANE

THE HURRICANE with unpredictable records, this person’s dream is like a ‘hurricane’. the emotion swings (shift of colours), make it difficult to forecast what this person might dream of in the next night. Not just only the colours but the there’s also a rapid change to the trend. In the first 10 days he had 7 dreams but later in the month he havn’t had any dreams.

SEASONS CHANGE Like the seasons, this person’s record changes slowly there is some pattern in the changes. The idea of (red-red-purple) to (red-purple-blue) shows the colleration of how red slowly turns into blue like the seasons. The amount off dreams are also steady, we could state that this person had 3 dreams every 10 days.

well...life is about saying goodbye remembering and making memories

PROJECT 09

09 COTTONMOTION ‘because emotions are like cotton candy, one day it will disappear and what remains are memories’

PROJECT 09

COTTONMOTION An abandoned place is like an empty soul, no emotions nor memories. How did a sweet so short-lived contribute to such long lasting memories?

AUGUST 2020

The connection between the fleeting nature of cotton candy and the fleating memory we have of our interations with is something I’m curious of. I ultilized such common characteristic to transform emotions into a space we could physically interact with, using cotton candy to build such conceptual ornament.

PROJECT 09

“THE EXTRAORDINARY SUGAR” “Cotton candy is a spun sugar confection that resembles cotton.” This is how cotton candy appeared on the dictionary, ordinary, simple, and tangible. However they are special than that, they’re undefinable and extraordinary because cotton candy are like memories.

AUGUST 2020

“The connection between the fleeting nature of cotton candy and the fleating memory we have of our interations”

RESEARCH

Cotton candy are not only complex by their structures but they have complex history too. I created this detective crazy wall as part of my initial research including the physical , historical and futuristic aspects. Amazing all informations has linkage at some point or intersections.

PROJECT 09

RESEARCH ANALYSIS MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Do you wonder why cotton candy build up such a nostalgic experience though it’s notthing else but just sugar?

AUGUST 2020

To answer, a deeper digged about what steps are needed to obtained such results are needed. I scope my ideas around the topic of structure, form and appearance. This research analysis shows the production process of a cotton candy from just a normal sugar cane into such an interactive fluff.

PROJECT 09

Something so special about cotton candy is no matter how complex the structures are they would at somepoint disappear and turned back into ‘just sugar with memories’. Somehow this fact create connection between cotton candy and emotion. At somepoint we experience something, feel and by the end they turned into memories.

AUGUST 2020

In this experiment I’m going to observe the method that would prove the following statement. But to maximize the accuracy, solidity is needed I’m going to convert the production of cotton candy into rock candy.

emotions are represent by colours. different emotions have different life span, and different colour represents different emotion. In this experiement I would like to investigate what ingredients are needed to make the colour-emotion theory true, natural dyes are used instead of artifial.

2

experiment

levels of emotions are represent by scribbles. scribbling could measure how much a person is feeling toward a certain thing (intensity). emotion intensity is like the density of cotton candy, in this experiement I want to prove that higher density would slow down the decay rate.

‘An abandoned place is like an empty soul, no emotions nor memories.’ I created this imaginary abandoned building to show how these ‘cotton motion would be install’ to reactivate such place. Users could build their ‘cotton motion’ into ornament to fill space up with memories and bring this it back living again!

THE HIERACHY There is no fixed circulation but the event (soft programme) would be orientated based on the decay-timeline of each type of cottonmotion. Because lower floor are easier to access shorter living ‘cottonmotion’ would be located.
