elevation society SUMMER 2021
Dear Elevation Society Member, Our transition from winter to spring saw the beauty of bud break, and now we’re witnessing the vines transition to an exuberant display of tender leaves that cover the valley floor. The vines have officially woken to the spring season, and the region is bursting with life. We’re feeling optimistic as we break out of our own state of quarantine. Our team at all four wineries is ready to welcome our guests and introduce our latest releases. Choose from a relaxed tasting on the back porch at PlumpJack Estate Winery; stunning views atop Howell Mountain at CADE Estate Winery; a visit to world-renowned Stags Leap District at Odette Estate Winery; and lastly, an elevated Library Wine Tasting experience at 13th Vineyard on Howell Mountain. Springtime is a great time to visit when the valley is in full splendor, and the weather is just right. Please reach out to our team to book your visit in advance. We look forward to helping you with your Napa Valley experience. Thank you for your continued support of our Napa Valley Wineries.

In 2019, 18% of the fruit came from our Estate vineyard in Oakville and 13% from the CADE 13th Vineyard on Howell Mountain. We also worked with five other properties: Stanley Vineyard and Shroff in Oak Knoll (20%), Berggruen in St. Helena (26%), Juliana Vineyard in Pope Valley (16%), and Trailside in Rutherford (7%). The grapes were harvested from August 23rd through September 20th, 2019.
WINEMAKER IMPRESSIONS Our 2019 has aromas of pineapple, tangerine, honeydew melon, yellow apple, peach blossom, lime, white flowers, and cantaloupe. The wine has flavors of pear, lemon, lime zest, orange peel, cream soda, toasted nuts, citrus, lemon meringue, and grapefruit. There is a touch of minerality in the palate, but the wine has a mid palate that is rounded and a touch creamy, but it finishes with a tangy citrus like acidity. The barrel fermentations add texture, density, and viscosity to the mid palate of the wine. The stainless-steel fermentations preserve the natural Sauvignon Blanc aromatics and the acidity and crispness of the wine. Sourcing the fruit from six different sub appellations of Napa Valley brings a huge level of diverse flavors and aromas to this wine. Sauvignon Blanc from Pope Valley and Howell Mountain have more tropical fruit flavors, while fruit from Oakville and Oak Knoll have flavors of grapefruit, citrus, and green apple. The grapes we brought in from St. Helena and Rutherford tend to bring the yellow apple, lemon meringue, and cantaloupe aromas and flavors to the final blend.

The 2018 13th Reserve Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is from our newly acquired 154-acre property, 82 planted acres, on Howell Mountain, 13th Vineyard. This property was the 13th bonded winery in California, dating back to 1886. The property is planted to 74 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5 acres of Malbec, and 1 acre of Petit Verdot. The fruit in 2018 was harvested between October 11th and October 29th.
WINEMAKER IMPRESSIONS
The 13th Vineyard Reserve has aromas of raspberry coolie, graham cracker, bing cherry, black cherry, boysenberry, coco nib, cinnamon, clove, crushed rock, and cedar. In the palate are flavors of blueberry, milk chocolate, red fruits, brown sugar, cola, fresh raspberry, and chocolate mousse. There is a beautiful density and weight in the palate. The mouthfeel is lingering and has a balanced structure and tannin profile. The 2018 is a blend of seven of the best blocks on the property. There are four clones of Cabernet Sauvignon represented, 337, 7, 6, and 191. The Petit Verdot used in the blend adds a floral component in the nose as well as some dark fruits in the palate.
