Celebrating a decade of excellence!
Change, evolution, and adaptation are central to our philosophy here at PlumpJack Collection. It all began with one Napa Valley winery in 1995: PlumpJack Estate in Oakville. From there, we grew to four estate wineries, complemented by our latest acquisition, a beautiful 129-acre parcel, Oso Vineyard.
The acquisition fits within our philosophy, theory, and plan on being estate-driven wines. Not only are we committed to our pursuit of great winemaking that reflects a strong sense of place, but we are also committed to the people who have made the PlumpJack Collection of Wineries what it is today.
Our success and accomplishments are rooted in our people, and this year, we celebrate “10 Years in the Making,” which honors the tenure of our three exceptional winemakers: Aaron Miller of PlumpJack Estate, Danielle Cyrot of CADE Estate and 13th Vineyard by CADE, and Jeff Owens of Odette Estate.
I am beyond fortunate to have a front-row seat daily to their innovation, curiosity, leadership, commitment, and passion for their craft. It really makes your work, your craft, and your life better if you find something you’re truly passionate about, that inspires you.
I continue to be inspired by Aaron, Danielle, and Jeff, and am so proud to witness not only their stellar successes as winemakers and thought leaders, but also their dedication to fostering the next generation of formidable winemakers.
Equally as important as acknowledging our team during this season of gratitude is the opportunity to celebrate our loyal fans. We are grateful to you for being part of our journey and we appreciate your friendship and support more than words can express. We look forward to seeing you soon and often.

What is your favorite family tradition or a tradition you’ve created for your family?
AM: After finishing up a long harvest, my family and I have been staying a few nights in Tahoe for the last several years. It’s one of those places that brings a sense of awe and wonder and you can’t help but feel refreshed. On more than one occasion, we’ve been fortunate enough to witness the first snow of the season which is pure magic.
If you could share a glass of wine with anyone, living/ dead, who would it be and why?
AM: I would share a glass of wine with my grandfather. He passed away while I was living in San Luis Obispo for my second winery internship. I was new to the industry and I have accomplished so much since. I think he would be proud and I would have loved the opportunity to talk to him as an adult. I think we have a lot in common.
You can only drink one wine for the rest of your life. What are you drinking and why?
AM: I’m drinking the E Guigal La Landonne. I have great memories of tasting this wine and others with our PlumpJack team in the Northern Rhone. Plus, this wine is just delicious, and it makes me happy.
Most embarrassing winemaking story?
AM: I can’t say that I have any embarrassing moments – at least, not significant enough to remember. But I have had many humbling experiences. Agriculture is tough. Mother Nature is constantly throwing us curveballs. It can be a real challenge to grow grapes of the highest quality and craft these amazing wines.
What is your least favorite aroma?
AM: Cork taint
What is your least favorite flavor?
AM: Lima beans, if that’s a flavor. Maybe a texture.
What’s the funniest or strangest thing someone has said about your wine?
AM: Critic Robert Parker once wrote that one of my wines was like “a skyscraper in your mouth but without the weight,” to paraphrase. I love that one. I don’t know what it means, but it’s great.
What would be the title of your memoir?
AM: “Edible Skyscrapers”

JO: My wine has been compared to Beyoncé.

JO: Passion Driven: The Owens Journey

JO: That’s a secret.

JO: 2015 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru. A tremendous wine that is versatile and will stand the test of time. Hopefully, I’ll be around for a while!

What is your favorite family tradition or a tradition you’ve created for your family?
DC: We try to have the family together for a big holiday dinner. The food is always great and bountiful. The wine is, of course, amazing and thoroughly enjoyed. And we usually end the night playing a card/board game. It’s always a fun evening.
If you could share a glass of wine with anyone, living/ dead, who would it be and why?
DC: President Joe Biden. Because, well, he is the President and probably has some interesting things to say about the world we live in.
What is your least favorite aroma?
DC: Hydrogen sulfide—aka rotten egg. I often smell it in wine as it is actively fermenting. But I know how to fix it! Give the yeast some nutrients and vitamins, and your wine smells fantastic, just like it should.
What is your least favorite flavor?
DC: I have never really liked mushrooms, but I took Plant Biology in college and really started to dislike the taste and texture of mushrooms. Have you ever looked at one under a microscope? I wouldn’t suggest it. Millions of spores are released with every bite!
What’s the funniest or strangest thing someone has said about your wine?
DC: One critic wrote that a wine I made tasted like burnt brownie corners. It was so specific of a descriptor that I have never forgotten it. First, because who doesn’t like brownies? We all know the best piece is the corner piece, and with a little extra bake on it….well, that is what I call perfection. So the fact that I made wine with perfect brownie flavors, all I can say is, yes! I did that!
What would be the title of your memoir?
DC: A girl, a boy, and a grape.
Most embarrassing winemaking story?
DC: So many to choose from. While working in the cellar, I thoroughly sprayed myself with wine. I mean straight in the face. Shirt, face, and hair were all covered in red wine. Then, a tour group walked in and their guide said, “and this is our Winemaker, Danielle.” I must have looked like Carrie. (Those who are old enough will know what movie I am referencing.) I worked the rest of the day in my red-stained shirt—total walk of shame.

DC: Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. CADE preferably—I mean, I make it, so I must like it, right?
