This play-within-a-play shows each cast member’s on-stage life becoming complicated by events happening offstage. Inspecting Carol

December 11, 12, 13 and 14 at 7:30pm and December 14 and 15 at 2pm Lori Lee Wallace, Director | Daniel J. Sullivan, Playwright Get your holiday cheer on with this hilarious, madcap comedy! Behind the scenes of a struggling theatre’s annual slapdash production of A Christmas Carol, rehearsals are at a standstill. Tim is no longer Tiny, Scrooge wants to do the play in Spanish (Feliz Navidad), and their funding is on hold pending an inspection. This laugh-out-loud spoof makes for a night at the theatre that is anything but show business as usual.

In the Garden of Live Flowers: A Fantasia on the Life and Work of Rachel Carson

March 7, 8, 14, 15 at 7:30pm and March 16 at 2pm Ali Lee Rose ‘14, Director | Attilio Favorini & Lynne Conner, Playwrights As author Rachel Carson struggles to complete her book, Silent Spring, she simultaneously fights both her progressing breast cancer and various factions of American enterprise that launch a crusade against her reputation. Carson’s solace is found in Alice in Wonderland, the imaginative guide her subconscious clings to. Carson’s story converges with a fantastical landscape enlivened by literary, film and cultural references that theatricalize the revolutionary science of Silent Spring.

Macbeth

May 9, 10, 16, 17 at 7:30pm and May 18 at 2pm Lori Lee Wallace, Director | William Shakespeare, Playwright Considered one of Shakespeare’s darkest and most powerful tragedies, the play dramatizes the corrosive psychological and political effects produced when the Scottish lord Macbeth chooses evil as the way to power. After committing regicide to become king, he furthers his moral descent with a reign of murderous terror. He loses everything that gives meaning and purpose to his life, before losing his life itself.

Black History Month Concert February 20, 2014, 8pm Lagerquist Concert Hall

The PLU Black History Month Concert is a tribute to the entrepreneurship of AfricanAmericans featuring the legacy of their music, literature, and art presented by the PLU Jazz Ensemble and prominent members of the local African-American community. After emancipation and the end of the Civil War, entertainment was an appealing and viable option to African-Americans. Black music makers not only had a means to make a reasonable living, but also had the means to be a public voice for personal and community cultural expression.

Tapped Out Premiere Presented by PLU MediaLab April 10, 2014, 7pm Studio Theater

MediaLab’s new documentary investigates how pressures on water, including drought, floods, population growth, and pollution – are resulting in new and innovative thinking. As a result, new efforts to manage, conserve, treat, store, protect, harness, and access water are developing around the world to help ensure that coming generations will inherit healthy, safe water sources. Entrepreneurial thinking and practices will be essential if these goals are to be achieved.

So You Want to be an Entrepreneur? - Guest Panel

The Senior Exhibition Inventing Your Future

Americans have always been an entrepreneurial people, but especially after watching so many lose jobs after the financial collapse in 2008, the focus on starting something special for yourself, working for yourself, and passing something along to the next generation is much stronger. The School of Arts and Communication and the School of Business welcome four young Seattle-area entrepreneurs to discuss the ins and outs of successful entrepreneurship. Joining us is Ross Mickel, who launched Ross Andrew Winery in 1999, Mark and Brian Canlis, 3rd generation owners of Seattle’s Canlis Restaurant, and Jeff Jorgenson, founder and owner of Elemental Cremation & Burial.

From preparation both of the artwork and the show itself, to publicity, self-promotion, branding and technical aspects, art seniors learn first-hand how to solve problems and create their own future in a competitive and demanding market. This exhibition highlights the culmination of their degree program and their creativity to forge a successful future.
