WHAT A YEAR 2022 HAS BEEN!
Words from the Chairman - Carl HeslopAs we take breathe with our last home game of 2022, I cannot explain what a rollercoaster this year has been, and the great news is we are finishing the year as we started.
A total of 21 wins so far this year, a return of 55% is almost comprehendible from the position we found ourselves in the summer of 2021 and is testament to the hard work given by everyone driving professional sport and basketball in the city.
Another sold out game and a lot of happy fans wearing this season’s jerseys makes me very happy and demonstrates the strong culture and how much we are supported by the fans to grow this great club. Basketball has tended not to get the exposure it deserves in Plymouth and 2022 will go down as a year where we as Patriots made the news for all the right reasons and long may this continue.
Today we welcome Bristol who are certainly looking to avenge last season’s games which saw them come close but not take the points at the pavilions. Having already taken two points this season from patriots and sitting high in the league they will certainly see this as an opportunity with a stronger roster to turn the tide.
However, we are only one place below and to be sitting in 4th place in the league after such a short time really gives us confidence that we are on the right track. We still yearn for a time when we can have all our players fit for a sustained period and once this is achieved, I’m sure we can surprise anyone.
As I’ve explained above, we have achieved so much this year and would like to extend my thanks to everyone behind the scenes that make Patriots happen from PJ to Paul, Ben, Adam and all the volunteers who without them we couldn’t exist. It has been a monumental effort this year and I’m proud of everyone who supports this club and ensures it’s in safe hands.
Would also like to thank the Cheerleaders, Pat Riots and all our gameday officials who make the show what it is which is by far the best indoor sports spectacle in the southwest.
From everyone and I at the club we would wish everyone a very safe, happy and healthy 2023 and let’s roar the patriots into the new year with another amazing performance!

Good evening and welcome to the Plymouth Pavilions for today’s very important BBL Championship game against Bristol Flyers.
I hope that everyone had a good Christmas and are looking forward to what should be an exciting game today.
Before Christmas we travelled up to Sheffield for what would be our last game before the festive season.
It really was a game of two halves. In the first half we played hard enough defensively, and our offence failed to fire. Too many players looking to create for themselves rather than playing for the team.
We put this area of the game right in the second half, and we played much better for the remainder
of the game. Our defensive intensity increased which led to better offensive production.
The game was tied going into the fourth quarter, but we controlled the final ten minutes well and came away with a very good win against a team that are very tough to beat at home!
Tonight, we play Bristol, which is always a very intensely fought game, before we travel to league leaders London Lions on the 30th of December. We must be ready to do battle with these teams and show the grit and determination to win that we had shown before Christmas.
A warm welcome to Bristol’s coaching staff, the players, and staff for this BBL championship game.

MATCH REPORT
SURREY SCORCHERS 90 - 83
The Plymouth City Patriots were in action Sunday afternoon, and once again in front of a sold out Pavilions held on for the win against the plucky Surrey Scorchers.
It was a very festive Sunday afternoon that saw the Patriots head into the Christmas break with a winning record of seven wins and six losses. Indeed, the Christmas jumper game played host to some knitwear that was so bad, it was good! On the court it was a similar affair, as the Patriots were slow out of the blocks, going down early to a seven point deficit to the Scorchers, early in the first quarter.
The Patriots certainly came good towards the end of the first, and after multiple lead changes headed into the second quarter with a one point advantage. The game remained close from this point on, with neither side able to sustain any real control, making for an intriguing fixture, creating a tense and exciting finish.
With less than two minutes to go, the Patriots held a slender lead and when the oppositions big man Shakem Johnson soared in for a dunk that would have closed the gap to just three points, and silenced the crowd, it looked like the visitors would have the upper hand. That is until veteran big man Rashad Hassan blocked the dunk and sprinted the full length of the court to score with a layup at the other end, sending the crowd into a frenzy and helped put the game out of Surrey’s reach. The away side would not go quietly into the night however, as their guard Josh Jefferson put on a shooting clinic, knocking down multiple three pointers in the dying moments to keep things close. Antonio Williams, who finished with a double double of 11 points and twelve assists and Markedric Bell, (15 points, six rebounds) both made consecutive free throws to see the game out and claim a well earned 90-83 victory for the home team.
Isa Brandon, finished up as the games MVP with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists, one steal and 100% shooting, helped break things down post game, saying “We started pretty weak, and tried to come back at them by the end of the first quarter. We just needed to find our grove, which took a little while, but eventually we got it. We stayed together and get it done on the defensive end. It’s tiring when they hang in the game with you. We kept going up and down, but you try your best to get stops and turn them into baskets. One stop, one score. Feels great having a win going into the Christmas break with a winning record. It was our goal and we accomplished it.”
Antonio Williams, who has been in great form of late, turned provider for the majority of this game relishes his role on the team, saying “I do whatever my team needs me to do. If we need points I’ll take on the scoring, when it’s passing, like tonight, I’ll take on the passing load, I just wanna do anything to help my team get the win. It feels good going into Christmas with a win It’s things we talk about in the locker room all week, as well as getting back to winning ways. You really feel in the Christmas spirit when you’re winning, it’s a good feeling.” The Pavilions crowd once again played their part in the victory and Williams had kind words for the Patriots faithful, adding “One of the biggest reasons I came back to Plymouth is the fans, they’re my teammates. Feels like home. Big Shout out to them!”
The final word of the successful evening belonged to the Patriots Assistant Coach, Joe Hart, who was very vocal during the game and is relishing his new role at the club after a season ending injury sidelined him at the start of the season. “We’re a really resilient team…” said Hart, “... We’ve overcome a lot of injuries and this is the first game back without anyone injured, apart from me. I think we started to figure things out going into the second half and got a tough gutsy win. Big performance from the guys. We stuck to our gameplay and it paid off in the end.”
The Patriots seventh win of the season lifts them to fourth place in the league table. They can now celebrate over the Christmas break.

How do you choose the right people to create your brand, conceive your next ad campaign, or design packaging for your new product? There are numerous agencies and freelancers in the Plymouth area alone, many producing strong creative work. Clearly, you need to check their portfolios and fees. But, crucially, you also need to know how they work and why they design the way they do.
Great design is as much about function, as it is about being beautiful. My approach is to understand your plans, assess the challenges you may face, and find effective solutions to realise your goals. Whatever the job, I aim to produce design that increases recognition in your target audience, tells your story and prompts customers to choose you over your competition. Just speak to my clients and see what they have to say.
