So to save your bank accounts and to give your pamper evening an infusion of natural products, we’ve gathered a few simple recipes that are kind to your skin and hair. So flip to page 24, roll up your sleeves and get started. If you’re looking for interesting events taking place across Plympton this coming month, then turn to page 14 to look at our What’s On Guide for a whole host of brilliant ideas. We are holding a Photography Competition, a chance for you to show off your Photography skills. The winner’s photograph will appear on the front cover! All you need to do to is take a photograph of an area in Plympton that you think would make a great front cover image and email it to nimra@oracle.uk.net by 18.04.2015. RIGHT PRICE Hundreds of satisfied customers praise local, independent business Right Price Windows. Based in Newnham Industrial Estate, Plympton, for its friendliness and quality of service. Company directors Travis Chiddle and Sarah Haseler are delighted to see the business continue to grow since purchasing it in 2013. Over the past two years, their mindset has been solidly focused on hard work and commitment to the firm’s loyal customers – which has even seen the team work on Christmas Day. “We are passionate about Plymouth,” says former Royal Marine, Travis. “We employ 15 people and our goal is to aid the city’s economy, manufacture items on site, and maintain a low carbon footprint.” “We also make sure that there is little waste by recycling as much as we can.” Making products and frames on site means the company can provide a wide bespoke range for the home. These are certain to provide sparkle and added value – from energy efficient PVCu windows (in a wide range of designs and colours) through to a multiple story extension. The company’s conservatories are also manufactured in house and are designed to have a long life and also be energy efficient. The team is happy to aid with any planning issues to ensure you have minimal fuss when it is being installed. 10
Or, if you are looking for something with a real sense of “historic grandeur,” then why not invest in an Orangery? “An Orangery incorporates not only the best of the modern world with its technology, that ensures a warm and energy efficient finish, but it also encompasses the elegance of the Victorian era,” says Travis. Or, if you don’t have quite the space for an Orangery, then the company can also fit a “skypod” into a roof area, so adding height, light and volume to your living space. The high spec quality and finish on the porches, doors, windows and rooflines make Right Price Windows the natural choice for many homeowners looking for home improvements.
Call The Plympton Community Magazine 01752 691007 | www.plymptonmagazine.co.uk
Additionally, the company’s wide range also makes a tempting array for clients – from Sarah’s favourites, the vertical sliding window, to by-folding doors where the door will literally fold back on itself in a concertina style. By-folding doors can have a maximum span of six metres which allow for a huge area to be opened up for those all important spring rays of sunshine!
“We employ 15 people and our goal is to aid the city’s economy, manufacture items on site, and maintain a low carbon footprint.” Sarah, who has just had her first baby, says people are also attracted to the business because of its sense of fairness for the customer – they provide discounts for OAPs, military personnel and emergency workers. Her grandfather was a former Royal Marine and Travis’ connection with the Forces, together with the city’s strong ties to the Royal Navy, means that both Sarah and Travis felt it important to be able to provide a discount for the military.
Sarah also enjoys success as a singer whose large repertoire of music is enjoyed at various social events across the city. Her passion for singing extends into work where, during the recent cold snap, she started singing a song from the hit film, Frozen. She soon found that other members of the team also knew the song and joined in! “It really made for a warm, happy atmosphere and it is that friendly atmosphere that is what our business is all about,” says Sarah.

Q & A Arrangements for children after a relationship breakdown. By Derek Jordan Derek Jordan is a specialist solicitor with The Family Law Company. His specialism is settling child arrangements for parents, grandparents, or others who have an important relationship with a child. He also handles domestic abuse cases where there is a need to protect victims and children from further harm. Q - How important are the needs of children when families experience difficulties? A - When adult relationships break down there is often also an immediate, negative effect on their relationship with their children, which can be distressing for all parties. It is vital that a child’s connection with all of the important people in their life is protected, encouraged and kept free from unnecessary restrictions. Q - Will children always spend equal time with both parents? A - There is no automatic fifty-fifty sharing. The starting point is for a child to continue to have a relationship with both parents and their wider family - as long as it is safe for them to do so. It is always best if the adults can agree the arrangements, but sometimes they find it too difficult or painful to do so. I always keep the best interests of the child at the heart of all the advice I give, whilst being supportive of the client and sensitive to their own needs. Q - Do I have to have a lawyer? A - You do not have to have legal advice. However, it is more likely that getting expert help as soon as possible when children are involved will mean a positive solution is reached much more quickly and with far less emotional distress. Lawyers can work as a bridge between the parties, encouraging aconstructive dialogue in reaching a solution for you and your family whilst protecting you from unnecessary pressure and distress. Q – Is it always necessary to go to court? A - No. Wherever possible, I try to reach an amicable solution without making any application to court, as this is best for all concerned, especially the children. This includes giving initial advice to help you pursue your own discussions, advising you on other ways of resolving your problem, such as mediation and seeking to negotiate an agreed way forward for you.
Derek Jordan Specialist Solicitor
Q – I have heard that even if there is an agreement about children, it is not legally binding? A - We all hope that people will stick to any agreement they make in relation to arrangements regarding children, but sometimes people do not act as you would hope or anticipate, or circumstances change. As long as there is an agreement, we can help you make an application to the court to have that agreement recognised and approved in the form of an agreed consent order which must then be kept to by everyone. Q – Can court cases be very expensive? A - The cost of legal advice can be a concern. The Family Law Company has a policy to work with clients to ensure that costs are clearly structured and explained. We make clear what work we advise is necessary and what we are actually being asked to do. It is important to us, and to me personally, to proactively work with clients to carefully manage the costs of any case.
The Family Law Company offers a free initial appointment to discuss your case and the options available to you.

The distribution of Plympton Community Magazine has never been beaten by any other local competitor! We have a dedicated marketing distribution company who deliver The Plympton Community Magazine through Plympton household letter box’s. The business was started by two companies who found it difficult to find reliable and economical distributors in the Plymouth and surrounding areas. Our distributors are respectful of occupants wishes at all times and they will never deliver material where the householder/business owner has requested us not to, we always ensure that all material is delivered into the letterbox and pushed through for security purposes. Our distributers use Full GPS tracking systems through mobile phones, this is a very unique system which enables us to view every step on every path, through every street, on every road and down every lane! This form of guaranteed tracking can also tell us how many distributers are working and how fast they are walking, this is then followed by spot checking to ensure they carry out the work as required to meet our very high standards. The Plympton Community Magazine is the original magazine which has been providing local information and great discounts to the people of Plympton for over 5 years. For the past 12 months we have chosen to use this new age form of distribution to ensure Plympton Magazine is delivered on time, every time, with a guaranteed tracked distribution!

The Makeup of Nature
By Nimra Imran
W
ith the consumer price of cosmetics on the increase, it’s no wonder that we have now turned to the comfort of our homes and the supplies in our pantries to conjure up natural, homemade alternatives to lipsticks and shampoos. So to save your bank accounts and to give your pamper evening an infusion of natural products, we’ve gathered a few simple recipes that are kind to your skin and hair. Essential Oils Shampoo:
Your hair will thank you after this nourishing treatment of gentle shampoo with essential oils. For this you will need half a cup of liquid castile soap, a qaurter cup canned coconut milk and a quarter cup of honey. Add in to the mix two tablespoons of coconut oil and forty to fifty drops of essential oils to make your shampoo smell yummy. Lavendar and peppermint oils are extremely popular and give your showers an infusion of freshness. Then proceed to mix all of the ingredients together in a container with a lid (or a clear plastic bottle as shown in the image). Put on the lid and shake well to combine. Shake before using and enjoy heavenly smells and equally noursihed hair.
Nourishing Lip Balm:
The key for this lip balm is the amount of beeswax you include. The more you put in, the less glossy and the more firm and balmy it gets. The great thing about beeswax is that it has natural sun protection qualities. Even a little bit helps when you’re in the sun all day in the summer time! To create this delight you simply need two table spoons of grated beeswax, two table spoons of coconut oil, two teaspoons of sweet almond oil, a chunk of red lipstick and half a teaspoon of shimmery eye shadow powder. To make the balm taste as delicious as it looks, you 24
could also add ten drops of essential oils; peppermint is again a popular choice to use in balms. Melt all but essentail oil in a doubleboiler until completely melted and there are no more beewax flakes. Do not boil or overheat. Stir with a throw away tool like a bamboo skewer. Remove from heat and add essential oil. Using a syringe or medicne dropper, fill your lip balm containers. Let it sit at room temperature or in the fridge until hardened or opaque. And now you have a soothing, smooth lip balm with just a hint of color and a hint of sun protection, ready to be used.
Honey and Oatmeal Facemask:
And last but not least, this Honey and Oatmeal Facemask is perfect for a pamper evening, leaving your skin feeling soft and refreshed. You will need two tablespoons of ground oats, half a table spoon of fresh lemon juice and two table spoons of raw honey. Then grind the oats and in a small bowl mix them together with lemon juice and the honey. Apply to your face to create a mask, making sure its spread evenly. Leave on the skin for 10 to 15 minutes. Then remove the mask with cold water and a washcloth. This recipe makes enough for two to three treatments. Its best to store extra in the fridge in an airtight container. With these amazing recipes, you can now create your own cosmetics which are kinder to your skin and cost just as good as they look.

SMEATON HOMES SALES SOAR Local estate agency employs experienced new sales manager. 2015 is certainly off to a great start for Smeaton Homes. The new sales arm of the company has seen plenty of action since the beginning of the year, leading the director, Daniel Robinson, to employ the talents of Teresa Hathaway to manage this growing area. Teresa possesses more than 20 years’ experience in the field of corporate estate agency and brings a wealth of fresh ideas to Smeaton Homes. When asked why she applied for the role, Teresa commented: “The attraction of Smeaton Homes was purely down to the enthusiasm of director, Daniel Robinson. I am a strong believer in thinking outside of the box in order to grow your business and Smeaton Homes is definitely doing that. Smeaton Homes is an innovative, creative and committed business and I’m relishing the opportunity to get involved. Daniel added: “I’m thrilled that the sales arm of Smeaton Homes has taken off so

impressively, and I know Teresa is the right person to keep things on track. Her vibrant, positive attitude is infectious and her commitment to helping me grow the business is greatly appreciated”. With the company’s hugely successful rebrand last year and their continued success in the field of property sales, Smeaton Homes is definitely one to watch over the coming months. Teresa’s plans include more community involvement and sponsorship to further boost Smeaton Homes’ local profile.

me to put your back into Healthcare When it comes to reasons for visiting the doctor, back pain is one of the most common. It's estimated that four out of every five adults (a whopping 80%) will experience back pain at some point in their lives. It's a problem that is affecting industry, with studies suggesting absenteeism through back pain is costing UK companies £673 per employee per year. So what are the causes and what can we do about it? Some of the reasons are quite obvious: bad posture, lengthy use of computers or tablets, and carrying heavy loads. Other contributory factors are less obvious, such as not drinking enough water and not eating the right foods. The good news is that there are some simple things we can all do to help ourselves. • If you work at a computer, take regular stretch breaks; ensure you sit correctly and that your workstation is ergonomically right for you. • Take care when lifting - whether you're at work, doing DIY, gardening or lifting a young child or baby. • Gardeners and physical workers - always use the
right tools, take frequent breaks and do regular stretches. • Children - carry your schoolbags over both shoulders to prevent uneven weight distribution and take to school only what you need for that day. • And ladies, it's time you looked at the contents of your handbag - do you really need all those things you're lugging around with you all day? • Finally, get walking! Walking strengthens the body and helps position the spine in the natural shape it was designed for. It also helps to build up core strength, which is important in maintaining good posture.
