They’re here to talk to as many students and graduates as possible and pass on their knowledge and experience of careers in their sector. We hope that you enjoy the fair and make some great contacts. TOP TIPS FOR THE DAY • Remember organisations are always on the lookout for potential candidates. • Research the organisations who are attending and visit their websites and social media. • Prepare the questions that you want to ask. Aim to be remembered as the person who asked interesting and engaging questions! • Don’t just consider the obvious big companies, remember all companies employ a wide range of staff. The more open minded you are, the more opportunities you will discover. • Take copies of your CV to leave with employers. This will show that you are professional and prepared. • Drop into the Careers & Employability Hub to pick up our new Career Hacks booklet on CVs, or to ask for feedback on whether your CV is up to scratch. • Dress to impress; you never get a second change to make a first impression!

• If someone gives you their business card and invites you to call them for a further meeting, follow it up! It may open doors to work experience or mentoring. If you’re not sure how to approach them after the fair, pop in and talk to our team in the Careers & Employability Hub. • Use the notes section at the end of this brochure to make a note of names of the employers you met and any helpful tips, sources of information that they gave you, or any follow up action that you agreed to undertake so that you don't forget! • Know your digital footprint! What do you find when you Google your name? Are you happy for employers to see your Facebook photos? Are your tweets appropriate? Is your LinkedIn profile current and professional? MAKE AN IMPRESSION! WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS SHOULD I ASK? Your questions should depend on what’s appropriate to the employer, the research you have done and what you want to get out of your discussion with them. Everyone’s questions will therefore be different but here are a few examples to get you started: • What particular skills are you looking for? • What’s the best thing about working for this company? • What type of person fits in with your company? • What is your normal selection process? • How many stages are there? (such as asssessment centres, interviews, tests) • What motivated you to work for this company? • What are the key deadlines for applying?

PLACEMENT EXAMPLES: • Does your organisation recruit placement students? • What experience would make a placement application stand out? • Is placement experience valued in a graduate application? • Where and when do you advertise your placement vacancies?
