HOW DO I MAKE AN IMPRESSION ON THE DAY? Although fairs provide a less formal atmosphere, the organisations will still be on the lookout for potential candidates: • Dress to impress – first impressions are key, so make sure you dress for the occasion. • Arm yourself with CVs – take hard copies of your CV to distribute to employers. Make sure it’s a good one by visiting the Careers & Employability Hub for CV advice.

WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS SHOULD I ASK? Your questions will depend on your current experience and which specific organisations you are interested in visiting, along with the level of research you have conducted before hand. Consequently, everyone’s questions will be different, but here are a few examples to get you started:

• Trust your notepad – make sure you take a notepad to keep important information or use the notes section next to the employer profiles in this brochure.

• What experience would make an application stand out?

• Do your homework – Research the organisations who are attending by visiting their websites and various social media outlets. Prepare appropriate questions and stand out from the crowd.

• What does your standard application process involve?

• What particular skills are you looking for?

SHELTER ENGLAND.SHELTER.ORG.UK Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services and we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. Shelter’s Plymouth service is on hand to provide free, specialist housing advice for people living in the local area. Within our centre on Buckwell Street, we have solicitors and trained housing advisers ready to help and give expert advice on a range of housing problems such as homelessness, rent arrears and disrepair. Our solicitors can also help with free, confidential legal advice for anyone eligible for legal aid.
