jdeutsch@thenownews.com It was a senseless act of vandalism in a popular Coquitlam park. In the spring of 2012, vandals torched a picnic area on the west side of Mundy Park. A year later, a group of Dr. Charles Best Secondary and Hillcrest Middle students teamed up to right the wrong from that day. Woodworking students from both schools were tasked with three projects to improve the park. The first project is the installation of an arbour
with a swing, while the other projects include four sundials and four Mason beehives. Despite the pouring rain on Thursday as the school year wound down, the teens were in the park installing some of the products of their hard work. The sundials will have to be set up in the park on another day when the sun is out. Best’s woodworking teacher Dave Jones said the idea was to come up with projects that would challenge the students and enhance the park.
