jkurucz@thenownews.com The name may imply it’s for farmers only, but the atmosphere is more akin to a carnival — complete with music, artisans and literature. The Port Coquitlam Farmers Market kicks off tomorrow (Thursday), and organizers want to let residents know everyone is welcome at the Leigh Square event. “We’re a good spot for people who like to think outside the box,” said market coordinator Colleen Williams.
“We have some people who come weekly or some people who show up every couple of weeks. We’re also looking for the backyard gardener who is maybe good with only one thing.” One of last year’s outside-the-box success stories saw a pair of teens capitalize on a bumper crop of plums grown in the backyard of their Mary Hill Road home. They only came to one market, but that’s because they sold every plum they had brought within a four-hour span. “These things rocked, they were so great,” CONTINUED ON PAGE 6
