The future of Surrey’s City Centre was unveiled with an interactive 3D model and high-tech presentation Tuesday morning. More than 100 people gathered at Concord Pacific’s new community presentation centre in Whalley to witness the company’s grand plans for the city. Featuring highrises nestled in parks, with the push of a button that read “See the Future,” the model lit up in bright blues and greens and formed patterns that danced down miniature streets. “It’s all about giving a digital presentation to show you the future and where we’re headed,” said Grant Murray, vice-president of sales at Concord Pacific. “From an economic standpoint, we’re looking at $5 billion of infrastructure being put into the downtown core of Surrey City Centre, so we’re really excited about the opportunity of what it provides in terms of job growth.” Surrey is continuing to grow at a rapid rate compared to other cities in the Lower Mainland and its population recently surpassed 500,000. According to the latest census, Vancouver’s total population is just over 600,000. “Predicting with 13,000 to 14,000 people

Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts attended the unveiling, showing support for Concord Pacific’s new developments. “When we look at the number of residents that are moving into the area, we want to make sure that we have vibrant communities, that it’s livable and that we’ve got lots of amenities,” she said. “Concord has really done an amazing job in engaging with the community.” Concord Pacific also announced that it is creating a scholarship and bursary to
support students from the Surrey school district over the next 10 years, starting this fall. The Concord Progressive Community Entrance Scholarship and Concord Progressive Community Bursary will be worth $2,500 each. “I want to thank Concord Pacific for their investment in 20 future students of the Surrey school district,” said Joanne Curry, executive director of Simon Fraser University Surrey. “It’s ensuring that talented students and students with financial need access university education.”
Park Avenue towers open on Saturday Concord Pacific’s new building is having its grand opening Saturday. Park Avenue is the name of the company’s next major residential development for Surrey, located close to Surrey Central SkyTrain station. Its grand opening takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 13718 100th Ave.
