Thu Thiem Tunnel is not only Southeast Asia’s most advanced river tunnel; it was also the first river crossing tunnel in Vietnam. The distance between urban and suburban districts has significantly decreased since the construction of the road under the river.

In addition, Thu Thiem tunnel draws in young people with its expansive view, which makes it easy to capture the most breathtaking sunset scenes. A rich and varied treasure of street food is also converging on the roof of the Thu Thiem tunnel.

Geographical location

With its beginning in District 1 and its ending in the Thu Thiem new urban area in District 2, the Thu Thiem Tunnel is a unique structure that is part of the East-West Boulevard and situated in the Saigon River bed.

It starts at the area close to Chuong Duong wharf on Vo Van Kiet’s main street and ends on East-West Boulevard leading to Cat Lai intersection.

Thu Thiem, recognized as Southeast Asia’s most cutting-edge river crossing tunnel, was completed after seven years of construction. Not only connecting District 2 with District 1, but the Thu Thiem Tunnel also links District 7 with Binh Thanh District and District 4 with each other, reducing travel time.
