Architectonics and layout

From above, the Thu Thiem tunnel can be seen to have a U-shaped entrance with two completely distinct directions of circulation. The Thu Thiem tunnel, which has a height of 9 meters, has a total length of 1490 meters. It is divided into five main sections, including a 24-meter section that is submerged in the riverbed for 370 meters, two tunnel entrances (each 400 meters long), and two branches and the tunnel mouth (700m).

There are four tunnels in the submerged portion, each weighing up to 27000 tons. The tunnel’s maximum slope is 4%, its cover and bottom are 1.5 meters thick, and its wall is one-meter thick. You will hear the sound of water moving around the cellar when you are inside, giving off a unique feeling.

The tunnel’s interior is divided into six lanes, each measuring two meters, three meters, and 3.5 meters, and corresponding to two traffic directions. The top speed limits for cars and motorcycles in the Thu Thiem tunnel are 40 km/h and 60 km/h, respectively.

Alarm bells and a surveillance camera system have been installed inside the tunnel to enable quick action in the event of a threat.
