From the Mayor

I

sn’t 2019 just flying along? Summer is definitely behind us, the days are getting shorter and we’re starting to feel a bit of a chill in the air. Summer was a challenging time for many of our state’s regional communities, as we’ve experienced one of the driest periods on record, and we really hope that those communities that need rain the most receive good falls soon.

Focus on roads > Improvements to our road network continue, with reseals recently completed in areas of Lighthouse Beach and Beechwood, and improvements to Bay and Bellbowrie Streets in Port Macquarie commencing in mid-2019.

We are extremely lucky in the Port Macquarie-Hastings region to have a secure water supply, and as a community we are doing a great job in conserving this most precious resource, so thank you. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who’ve engaged with Council in recent months, whether that be taking one of the many opportunities to volunteer in our community, having your say on the broad range of Council projects and plans, and providing your input and feedback through our community planning activities.

Sensational Seniors > In late February more than 1,500 seniors had a day of fun discovering all things healthy, wealthy and wise at the biggest local senior’s expo our region has ever seen.

I’d also like to thank all those in our community who have taken the time to share your thoughts on a proposed Orbital Road for Port Macquarie. This is a difficult conversation to have, and solving our traffic congestion is never going to be easy. I, as your Mayor, and all Councillors will continue to work hard on your behalf to ensure we reach the right outcome. As always I encourage you to share your thoughts through the ‘have your say’ area of our website so that we are all part of the conversation in building the future of our prosperous community… together. Peta Pinson Port Macquarie-Hastings Mayor

Camden Haven boat ramps > Boaties will soon be enjoying improved access to the Camden Haven River with boat ramps at Bruce Porter Reserve in Laurieton and Dunbogan Reserve being upgraded and planned for completion in June.

Wauchope main street upgrades > The upgrades in the Wauchope CBD are on track for completion later this year with installation of drainage infrastructure, water mains, street light footings, new garden areas, footpaths, kerb and gutter, seating and bins now complete.

Shade galore

Wauchope woofers

> New shade sails have been installed in Port Macquarie’s Town Square protecting patrons from the weather and making alfresco dining more comfortable for all. These great new additions to the square have been funded from the Town Centre Master Plan Committee Reserve which is made up of a levy paid by property owners within the Port Macquarie CBD for streetscape and beautification works.

> The perfect place for your pooch to play, train, socialise and exercise, the new dog park at Blackbutt Reserve has small and large dog enclosures, an agility loop, bubbler with drinking bowl, bins and seating. The park has received the big WOOF of approval from our four-legged friends.

Crestwood Playground fun

A sustainable future

> You can hang, climb, swing, slide and fly at Crestwood’s new playground. It's great for kids of all ages, plus there's a variety of seating and picnic tables for parents to relax. Make sure you add this fun outdoor activity to your 'must do' list!

> Our focus on the local environment continues, and we were proud to sponsor the inaugural Hastings Sustainability Showcase which was a real hit with residents and businesses on the latest ideas, products and trends in sustainability.
