Nigerian leaders have failed — Sultan
By Lawrence Olaoye, Abuja & Mohammad Ibrahim, Kaduna
T
he Sultan of Sokoto who is also President-General of Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday attributed Nigeria’s many woes to what he described as bad governance arguing that the nation’s successive leaders have failed the people. “Many things are going wrong and nothing seems to be working,” the Sultan lamented yesterday at a National Conference on the role of Muslim scholars in fostering unity, peace and security in Nigeria, organized by JNI in Kaduna. According to him, if those in power do what is expected of them, the problem of insecurity would not be there. As the Sultan put it, “bad leadership is the cause of insecurity in Nigeria. If those in power are doing what is expected of them we would not be having these problems. “So many things are going wrong in this country . “So many things are not working because the leaders refuse to allow them to work. “As Muslim leaders, we know what Allah says about leadership, we know how our noble leader gave his life through a good channel Contd. on Page 2
