2013: Be serious with governance, ACN tells Jonathan From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos

T

he Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has urged the Jonathan administration to shake off what it describes as its trade mark lethargy and take governance more seriously in 2013. The party in a New Year message yesterday in Lagos by National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the

administration must take drastic steps to ease the hardship which it visited on Nigerians, especially in the past year. It said since the country's return to democratic rule in 1999, the year 2012 ranked among the worst years for Nigerians, “going by the very low standard of a non-performing and profligate administration like President Jonathan's.” It accused the government of

“ambushing Nigerians on January 1, 2012, with a totally unnecessary and punitive fuel price hike” and ensuring through 2012 “that everything went downhill from that moment until the end of the year.” The party lamented that Nigerians were made to pay far above the official price for fuel, with its bandwagon effect on the prices of goods and services, adding that such eroded the trust

Nigerians reposed in the administration. ''Mr. President, that singular act of your administration helped to erode whatever trust Nigerians reposed in you. Since trust is a critical element between the government and the governed, you must begin to rebuild trust by delivering on your promises, since trust can neither be decreed nor forced,” the statement said. ''Suffice it to say that Nigerians

2015: Jonathan’s campaign posters flood Abuja By Richard Ihediwa, Lawrence Olaoye, Umar Muhammad Puma

S

till two years ahead of the 2015 Presidential election, posters drumming support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan have taken over major streets in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Residents of the FCT woke up early on New Year day to see the President’s posters, which were apparently placed on Sunday night or in the wee hours of yesterday. The posters came barely a day after the Jigawa state House of Assembly endorsed Governor Sule Lamido for President in 2015. The Jonathan posters were placed at strategic places in Asokoro, Wuse, Maitama districts of the FCT, including the entrance of the Headquarters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), major news stands and waste bins, walls and trees among others. They have inscriptions drumming support for the President and declaring that there is “no vacancy in Aso Rock”. The posters have a broad picture of Jonathan in his signature bowler hat with two PDP logos. On them are inscriptions which read: “No vacancy in Aso Rock”, “Let’s do Contd on Page 2
