Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) economic report for the second quarter of 2012 shows that the sum of N988.36 billion was allocated to the 36 state governments and the 774 local government councils in April, May and June 2012, respectively as statutory allocations, VAT receipts and 13% derivation. The report, obtained from the apex bank’s website, shows that total allocation to state governments (including the Federation Account, 13.0% Derivation Fund and share of VAT receipts) stood at N635.32 billion during the reviewed quarter, representing a decline of 10.0 per cent below the level in the preceding quarter, but exceeding the level in the corresponding quarter of 2011 by 33.6 per cent. woman who wanted to rescue her child from an inferno was among those who were roasted to death when a petrol tanker exploded after the

driver lost control, rammed into a residential quarters and burst into flames in Tunga-Maje in Abuja yesterday. Eyewitnesses said the tanker after losing control, somersaulted and as a result,

rammed into the buildings, setting off the fire that ravaged the affected structures, worth millions of Naira. Charred remains of two occupants of the tanker, suspected to be the driver and his
